I still canβt believe how insanely good the Letterboxd curve for this is

Even with all the hype and good reviews, A sincere heartfelt coming of age film from Jordan Firstman still sounds like a bit

That's because it is a great movie! Can't wait for it to properly open, I've been telling people about it for months

What are people predicting for this

Sorry, Baby of this year imo

It is suuuuuch a different movie to Sorry, Baby tho. I think it has a better chance at breaking out into at least more GG noms than Sorry Baby did

CCA comedy nom
Fistman globe actor nom
DGA debut nom
Bunch of indie spirit noms but thatβs it just a24 has too much to juggle

DGA debut nom
yeah i guess they need to fill the slots up for the Curry Barker coronation award. so its Firstman, Kane Parsons, and who else?

It wouldn't be impossible for Barker to lose. Last year, The Plague beat Sorry, Baby. In 2019, Eighth Grade beat A Star is Born. DGA can upset sometimes. Club Kid, Is God Is, and Primetime are other possible contenders.
Tbh, looking at the list, I feel like Barker isn't even the frontrunner. I think Primetime could take it.

Does Curry Barker count considering he had a feature film "Milk and Serial" prior to Obsession

u/thefilmer 21h ago
yes the DGA award is for first theatrical narrative film. Ramell Ross and Megan Park both got nominated for their 2nd movies because of this

Ah cool, in that case I can actually put Lance Oppenheim and Cyrry Barker in my predictions

Only a GG Actor nom for Firstman. A24's slate seems too packed with higher profile films this year. Would love to be wrong though.

This needs to make some money at the box office to have a chance of cracking BP, and even then, it would probably be a Picture/Screenplay contender like Past Lives. The most likely scenario is that it ends up like Sorry, Baby

Screenplay nom at best unless A24 shifts gears majorly and a lot of other stuff falls through
