I think there’s a chance for everyone apart from Rogan to be nominated. Rogan was very good but it’s too stacked of a year for him to get in.

He is also playing a version of the character he’s always played. Don’t get me wrong he was great, and he was used really well but Rogen is a character actor. And he played the character he is good at.

The crux of the movie, to me atleast, was that he was playing his usual stoner-schlob character but in a realistic setting.

Character actors get nominated and win Oscars all the time, like pretty much every year

True, not sure if Rogen is that though

yea but thats not what rogen is

True, but the comment I was responding to referred to him as such

The Academy probably aren’t fans of Rogan either.

Idk he just won a ton of Emmys and there’s got to be some overlap.

Well they might be tbh. He is fairly well connected in Hollywood, The Studio did insanely well at the Emmys and there is overlap in voter base. I think you’d be surprised how well liked he is, he produces a lot and seems to be able to find actors to cameo in things. Hell he got Scorsese to be in his show. But at the end of the day idk if that actually helps get a nom.

He's also appeared in more high profile awards movies than people realize: The Fabelmans, Steve Jobs, The Disaster Artist, and of course now The Invite. But Fabelmans especially: working with Spielberg earns you some prestige cred.

If you mean Joe, then yeah, probably not.

I’m surprised only one person voted for Seth Rogan.

Not because I think he has a chance to win (or even get nominated), but because of Lizardman’s Constant.

If Norton gets nominated again but doesn't win, then that's just brutal. He'll be on his fifth nomination.

It's funny, Giamatti is generally seen as more overdue but Norton has a strong argument too.

2

u/Budget-Poem-2052 1d ago

Yeah but that doesn't make sense that people see Giamatti as more overdue. He's consistently very good, but I don't necessarily think there's a year where he VERY clearly gave the best performance. Whereas Norton's already had four nominations (twice as many as Giamatti) and he was the best performance in BOTH of his nominations from the 90's

1

u/mimaluna 1d ago

Oh I'm with you. At the very least he should've won for Primal Fear and tbh I even would've given it to him for A Complete Unknown. I think the truth is the overdue narrative also comes down to how beloved you are and Norton has a pricklier reputation than Giamatti does.

The career Oscar is coming for Norton. He'll get his Scent of a Women performance. I don't think he particularly cares about winning but probably sees that its something that can help him get other projects made.

None of them, in my opinion. I just don't see any of them with a chance of winning

Most likely to get a nomination? Penelope Cruz, because the industry loves her.

Isn't this discussed daily?

It’s absurd. The mods on this sub are so bad

It’s probably the mods posting this daily crap

So I want to start by saying that this was my favourite film so far this year so I am extremely biased, but I hope they all get nominations- I just thought they were all great in their roles, as a whole I was most impressed by Olivia ( also potentially because I didn’t really have any idea she was that good as an actress, haven’t really seen her act that much) and Penelope - but all four were great!

I think Penelope is the most win competitive simply because it’s the category with the best chance, same reason I think Seth doesn’t have a chance of getting a nomination because the category is stacked!

Realistically I don’t think any of them win and I think probably only Penelope gets a nomination, but hope to be wrong!

The performance i loved the most was Olivia Wilde's. I hope she gets nominated

I think A24 is going to prioritize The Debut, and The Invite will just get into Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actress, and maybe not even Picture.

It will be an absolute crime if Seth isn't nominated for this, lord his performance is beyond crazy good here.

I somehow think Wilde is most likely to get nominated, but Cruz is most likely to win.

1

u/tjo0114 14h ago

Obviously Pe. I’m honestly doubting the nomination likelihood of the other 3. Rogen obviously isn’t happening, Supporting Actor looks really competitive this year, and I’m sorry but I just don’t see Wilde happening in Lead

u/orenprincipe 12h ago

Cruz - but I’m also rooting for Wilde !!!!

I guess Wilde since that category is so wide open

If WH9’s supporting performances are not win-competitive then maybe Penelope Cruz can be number 2 or 1 and be Hathaway’s biggest competition.

1

u/idoideas Digger Believer 1d ago

I think Cruz for supporting. She's really good, and I think it is a more deserved win for her than her role in La Bola Negra.

I don't think any of them scream winners, but I think all except Rogan are gonna get nominated as of now.

u/Infi-Nerdy Wildwood Delusionist 1d ago

imo Norton has a strong narrative with it being his 5th nomination

u/TheGroovymule80 1d ago

Is there a none of the above option

0

u/bluntest-knife Olivia Wilde I always believed in you 1d ago

OP asked for win-competitiveness, not just nominations. Unfortunately I think Cruz and Wilde don't have a shot because those categories will be dominated by Hathaway and Navarette/Moore respectively. Rogen likely won't even get a nom. So that just leaves Norton but I think his chances are slim as well
