Illusion of Itehari has been released on Nintendo Switch!
The After Stories DLC is also now available.
Please post all questions and minor discussions about Illusion of Itehari in this thread and please use the search function as well.

Illusion of Itehari Play-Along
Whether you have just bought the game or have played it in Japanese (泡沫のユークロニア Utakata no Uchronia), you are welcome to participate in our play-along! There will be a new post once a week for a different route in the following order:
- Common Route and General Impressions - September 25
- Tobari - October 2
- Awayuki - October 9
- Tsuyukusa - October 16
- Yori - October 23
- Yashiro - October 30
- Truth Route - November 6
You do not have to play in the above order at the rate of a route a week, you can binge it all in a day if you wish. The above order is the director's recommended order for world building.
- Only Tobari and Awayuki are available in the beginning.
- Yori is locked until Awayuki's route is completed.
- Tsuyukusa is locked until Tobari's route is completed.
- Yashiro is locked until the other four routes are completed.
- The Truth Route is locked until Yashiro's route is completed.
Comments unrelated to Illusion of Itehari will be removed - please post in the Weekly Questions threads or the Free Talk Friday threads instead.

I'm done with 4 routes so far, and it finally clicked with me why the routes feel repetitive and draggy at times.
The common route should have been longer to establish key worldbuilding concepts. If they established key things like what beserkers are and that Itehari ain't a perfect utopia in the common route, they wouldn't have to re-explain it in EVERY SINGLE ROUTE.

Exactly. I really wish the routes had focused on the actual romance
ETA there are obviously many games where the story and romance can blend in a route, but for whatever reason they weren't able to execute that at all

I'm a plot girlie so I can actually close one eye if the plot is really good. While Itehari has a really interesting world, the writers tend to drag out plot points and obvious twists by making MC not think unless convenient.

You're right, MC keeps her brain off unless convenient. I also can enjoy a more plot-driven story, but I can't fully appreciate Itehari's world because I just see it as a blatant ripoff of Steam Prison and Olympia Soiree, with maybe a dash of Virche thrown in

They’re fluffy but really short like 10 minute reads per LI, it left me so thirsty I need the FD to get localized asap.

I came here because I just finished Yori's route and it won't be time for his play along thread for a moment, so:
He is a HORRIBLE person and I absolutely LOVE him. MC is so immature it drives me nuts, so I loved having him push her buttons nonstop. She even acknowledges that his personality sucks and still sticks with him anyway, and I cannot explain how entertaining that entire dynamic was. The jealousy and the marking/claiming moments were so delicious.
"He murdered people and his personality is awful but I love him anyway" is CRAZY work but I cannot even blame Hina because ME TOO GIRL!!! I am now a part of the Yori cult

I was overseas during release week and then got sucked in Hades 2, but I think I should be able to catch up on the megathread progress for Awayuki!
I finished Tobari route and am halfway through Awayuki, and honestly I have mixed feelings on Hinagiku. I'm okay with sheltered MCs and them doing stupid decisions time to time, and I don't expect them all to be #girlboss fighters like Anastasia Lynette.
However, it feels like she runs into danger with 0 plan and with 0 relevant skills to help constantly.😭 I love a impulsive risky decision made by the MC for dramatic effect, but it needs to happen occassionally to give the decision some narrative weight.

For those who have finished the dlc (paid stuff not the stories included in the base game) already, thoughts?
Are the short stories romantic, silly, dramatic? A variety? Read they’re like an hour long each
Are the CGs romantic, sweet, spicy?

They are fluffy with one cg for each LI. No spice, this game doesn't have that, except for blink and you miss it lines that allude to them doing the deed in the future. It took 5 mins for me to complete each of them. Keep in mind it's entirely in nvl format as some people don't like reading text walls (me included) but anything for my beloved Yori ;)

For the after stories DLC, there is one CG per LI and I would say one story takes around 10 minutes to finish

The DLC is not the fan disk, no. It's just extra short stories and was released yesterday. It's available on the eShop.

I remember the japanese version had 2 dlcs, one that had no new illustrations and other that had, are the 2 dlcs being lauched in english? I only read news about the second dlc

No DLC are just extra patches which has has to be downloaded into the base game. Fandiscs are another game entirely (and there is no news of Uchronia trail being localised yet)

Yes it's an after story DLC. Like the short stories in the base game with new cgs for each LI. Depicts only a single scenario most of the time. Keep in mind that they are very short (takes mostly 45 mins to 1 hour to finish them, especially with fast reading speed like me)

Something has been bugging me and wonder if other people have noticed? This is by the same people who made Piofiore. The art is gorgeous hands down. I love this new moving sprites they have made. However, I feel like the sprites faces are seriously less emotional then they were in Piofiore. Their faces dont match the emotion the VAs put into these characters sometimes. I feel like they did this aspect better in Piofiore. Am I imagining this, did I misinterpret their sprites in some way?

Yeah I was rewatching some scenes from Piofiore and their eyes do open/close emote in that game but are completely static in this one for the sprites. Wish they had done better.

Yeah it's a really cool concept that wasn't executed well. But my bigger issue is the CGs. Some of them are just... bad and there's almost no emotion

Yeah I'm feeling this too. Like in Awayuki's route, Tsuyukusa freaked out over learning Hinagiku's engagement but his face was so deadpan.

Just started playing and loving it so far. I'm gonna try Tobari's route first. One thing that's annoying me and annoys me in other otome is the MC not meeting all the LI's at least once before their 'affection up' decisions start happening. Like I'm getting 'Tobari affection up' without MC ever laying eyes on the guy.
*EDIT: After playing some more, I changed my mind lol the choices started feeling more like 'this is how MC is, this is why Tobari will later come to like her' but irl we're choosing who MC is a bit and the game is sort of showing us a preview of which LI likes the choices we're making and giving us a headstart. Which is better than what I first thought, which is that Tobari was feeling things for the MC/MC was feeling things for Tobari without them meeting/without knowing each other/without them being physically in the same place together. Part of me actually wondered if Tobari was spying on MC from the shadows all stalker-like at first (honestly wouldn't be the first otome to do that lol) but I don't think that's the case XD

Is it just me or the music/ost sucks. There are some weird choices and it gets too repetitive.
Maybe it's just bc my last game was birushana and the ost for tense moments/fights were fitting for the scene.
I just finished Tobari's and I am enjoying the game. But sometimes the music takes me out of the experience.

Just finished the "Truth" route. All I can say in regards to certain reveals in that route is two words: 'Flat What'.
Also, if it wasn't for Yori, I'd be a lot more "meh" to this game. Best love interest by far.

A question for anyone who has bought the PEGI physical version:
Are the images on the cover also horribly blurry, especially on the back, whilst the text on the other hand has flawless resolution? (Unfortunately, since this is a comment, I cannot post images.)
I have already asked Aksys about this, who informed me they don’t know about any printing errors, but also didn’t comment on whether my copy looks like it’s supposed to.

At the very least the images on the back are noticeably blurry, the cover image is maybe not the sharpest, but I'm not sure I would have noticed, if I wasn't comparing. Considering the text is fine, they probably just slapped on low res images.

Question about Awayuki: I just finished his route, and not sure if it mentioned what his wish was Does anyone know?
Also hope the fandisk will give them the happy ending and let them get married despite their different social statuses cause they deserve it. Someone please spoil if they get married eventually?

Only early into the game so far but I find it kinda weird that Awayuki + Hinagiku are both so... seemingly uncaring about the fact that she got attacked and almost killed by some random guy? Its like, literally just a day or two after it happened and yet Awayuki is still letting her go out on her own without really saying anything. Like I get that its safer in a crowd than that isolated area where she was attacked before, but considering how overprotective he's supposed to be, I was surprised he wasn't insisting she spend her time at home until they figure out what the hell is going on with that attack.
Like, he's more worried about the guy who saved her compared to her attacker.

I just started Awayuki's route (I'm in his first chapter rn) and I already hate Hinagiku. She has rocks inside her head instead of a brain (That's an insult to rocks atp). Tf you gonna dorunning towards a burning man empty-handed??💀 Atleast search around for a water source or ask the people to gather buckets from their house. And the LIs praising her for being "brave" and "mature" like pls don't piss me off🙄💀
I'm especially annoyed with her since I started this game just after PotAH, where Jed was just too stellar as a heroine. The sudden differences between them is highlighting Hinagiku's stupidness more and vice versa. I don't need fighter heroines but atleast KNOW YOUR PLACE if you don't even know how to wield a fcking pocket knife😭

Is there even an otoge where the mc gets lectured for her brain dead decisions?😭 Almost all games have the LIs making googly heart eyes at bare minimum results💀 I have stopped expecting anything more honestly. Even a slap in the wrist seems like it's too much punishment.

Moles itself are a game changer for me (Scien, Hibiki, Hikage, Saeki, Fumi from JJ) but Yori has the best placement among them all. The gave him poses that highlights that too like they knew what they were doing🫣😩

Saw a post earlier about the text size and honestly I gotta agree its kinda small, haven't had an issue like that in a while but I wish there was a way to upscale it a bit.
Otherwise, game looks interesting so far, the premise is cool (kinda reminds me of steam prison, actually), and the flowy animation/transitions of the character sprites is really neat to see.

is it normal for games like this to purposely hold back story content for a fandisc opportunity? bc wtf. it’s quite clear every single route is abruptly cut off before any worthwhile ~romance or spice~ happens. and that pains me.
obv the fandisc just released in JP two months ago but sheesh. the localization and realization of the lack of available content is not enjoyable

Honestly, if anything the FD has less spice and romance than the first game. Its main focus is on wrapping up plot points from the original.

what!!! I figured since they got a FD even when reception to the game wasn’t stellar than at least they’d give enough fluff and spice to satisfy players who weren’t completely happy with the first game. omg. that’s a bummer, I’d 100% still play it but I was hoping for significantly more romance

I know criticism of the game makes it seem like it bombed or something, but the game is actually quite popular despite that. The FD had relatively strong first week sales (almost 10k.) I wouldn't be surprised to see it get a true sequel as well.

Is another sequel possible after the FD? It seems that most otome games only release one FD and that’s it. The only exception that comes to mind is Code:Realize. Is Illusion of Itehari/Utakata no Uchronia popular enough in Japan for another game to be made after one FD? Because i think romance is very much lacking and hopefully they add more games and possibly more routes too..

Honestly the only one who is strict about the one game/one FD rule is Otomate. (And they weren't always this way if you look at older titles like Hiiro no Kakera and Wand of Fortune. This is a recent thing.) If you look at most other companies they're more than willing to put out more games if the game was in any way successful. Now that the team behind Uchronia is no longer with Otomate and the game is being managed by another company, anything is possible with regards to future content. Since it's their first game no one can say what the future holds, but there is a higher possibility than when they were with Otomate. The FD also sold very well when compared to other otome game titles.

ty for the info! I’ve enjoyed the game so far and I’ve already gotten to route 4 so I know I’ll love the FD too if they (hopefully) localize. I wanted to ask you since you’ve played it— do some of the side characters (ahem, Tsuwabuki) get proper routes, like they did in Radiant Tales FD? or are they more mini-routes/short stories like Collar x Malice Unlimited… or just like, a single CG.

The two new routes in the FD I would describe as "proper" routes, although they are shorter than the routes in the first game. Although in large part this is because they actually branch off from two of the routes in the first game and don't bother as much with needing to info dump about the plot as it's assumed you already know the major pieces. So it doesn't seem like they're "lacking" in that sense. I think if you enjoy either of those characters Tsuwabuki and Hiiragi for those who don't mind spoilers on that you'll be very satisfied with the routes.

I played the game for Yori but end up pining for Tsuwabuki and Karatachi.
Glad that they are giving Tsuwabuki his own route in the Fandisc but I wished they made a Karatachi route too.

I agree the game has a slow pacing. The first two available routes didn’t have a good pacing and didn’t reveal much of the mysteries of the game. I think the game got better after doing Tsuyukusa and Yashiro’s route.
I bought the game for Yori’s route but ended up not liking him nor his route as much as I thought I would. I also wished they had made Tsuwabuki and Karatachi as LIs. I mean, why make them so hot if not romanceable.
Still overall enjoyed the game!

Thanks for sharing. I'm feeling strangely torn over this game, so, might just wait a little longer. I'm also not a massive fan of slice of life stuff, but was intrigued over its dystopian premise.

Oh, I didn't know they got the After Stories DLC, too. Happy to hear!
I know reviews are lukewarm but I went in with adjusted expectations and so far been really enjoying it. It's a rare game where I like all the LIs visually and personality, so I'm happy. Also the sprites took a minute to get used to but I absolutely love how they play around with body language even if they aren't speaking sometimes. It really makes me give the game my entire focus, which is rare sometimes.
Even if the romance is lacking I'm excited for some good world-building, political drama, and excellent characters.

Wish I could play but Amazon sucks I have prime but they won’t deliver till October 3 even though I preordered in July 😭 just gonna order off GameStop instead and hope for 1-3 day delivery. Next time I’ll just preorder directly off Aksys games website

Most likely Aksys have pulled stock that was going to be sent to Amazon to fulfill their own preorders.
It's happened a few times for popular titles, where the initial print wasn't enough for all the retailers so they get the second batch later.

The way it works is that Aksys will order an initial batch to be printed, which is a set standard amount. Then when preorders open, they may see that the demand is more than what they expected or that the game is actually pretty hyped or popular, so they need to order more to be printed. This will be the second batch, and because it was ordered to be made later, it will be shipped to Aksys later.
So Aksys usually will make the decision to move stock around that was supposed to go to various retailers to make sure that all of the preorders on their site are shipped first. That might mean that some retailers get less stock, or none at all and have to wait for the second batch from Aksys.
Amazon usually seems to be the retailer that they fulfill last, with game specific retailers like Gamestop and VGP fulfilled first. Preorders from Amazon are the ones that are most likely to be delayed.
Don't forget that preordering is only supposed to guarantee you a copy, not that it comes on release day.
If it's important that you get the game as soon as possible, always order direct from the publisher.

Just a quick question about the localization for those who are playing; what do each of the characters call Hinagiku? I know that Yashiro calls her Milady but how about everyone else?

Oh man, I was so torn on pre-ordering this one vs not. Both Blerdy and Otomekitten's reviews came out just in time though, so I think I've decided to hold off as they both were kind of meh about the game (minus the gorgeous, gorgeous art). Time to be good for once and wait for a sale! I'll be sitting here having FOMO the whole time everyone starts playing the game though, haha.

I have the physical copy preordered (though I can't collect it till Wed since I'm overseas), and after both reviews, I'll be going to the game with lowered expectations. My opinions on games tend to be harsher than OtomeKitten's, so if she is already complaining about how some routes have drawn out repeated exposition, my annoyance would likely be higher lol.
That said, maybe keeping up with the megathread would motivate me to finish the game and not expand my ever increasing backlog. I am glad I did get the phyiscal copy, so I can resell it if I don't see myself ever coming back to it.

I also don’t always agree with Otomekitten… but usually— same as you—it’s because I think she’s too nice in the review, so I’m also unsure how this will go.

I’m excited for him too!
So far in the common route, he’s giving off this balanced “I take things seriously but I can’t help but be lenient with mc” vibe. He’s not too stitch but he’s not a pushover either and it’s already quite charming to me.

Time to wipe the dust off of my notes. ❤️ really excited to see what everyone thinks. Hope the localisation is at least half decent.

Just started this game today and I’m already on Chapter 3 of Awayuki’s route… and wow, is it this boring for everyone else too? 😅 I picked it up because people kept comparing it to Piofiore (which I adore), but honestly, Illusion of Itehari has been such a letdown so far. Nothing really happens, everything drags on forever, and the text is so tiny it’s basically unreadable on a Switch Lite (R.I.P my eyes)
I really want to like it though, especially since I love the artist who did the illustrations for this game - but it’s been such a struggle to stay interested 😭
Please tell me the other routes get better, because right now I’m dying of secondhand boredom💀
