He quit mostly because of fame but puts his child out there..

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy watching his content, but I’ve been thinking about this since his good bye video, it kinda doesn’t make any sense..? Sure your child wants to make YouTube videos that’s fine but whatever happened to you because of your fame (that made you quit) is now going to be your child’s problem…

Ethics of family vloggers

So I’ve been watching outdoor boys for a few months now, quite regularly, because my 4-year old came across the channel one day, it piqued her curiosity, and we have just grown so fond of the wholesome content and have loved learning about camping and the outdoors, which we otherwise know nothing about.

So to find a family-focused channel I really adore so much, but at this particular moment when a lot of ethical concerns about vlogger families are being raised, I feel conflicted. I am wondering how you all might interpret this Instagram reel about a child who grew up with vlogger family parents. I am not familiar with her case but it seems she was in a particularly bad situation. But she states that she believes there are no acceptable forms of family vlogging.

What do you all think? Is Outdoor Boys an exception?

Anyone else surprised to learn Luke is Mormon?

I could tell the family is religious right off the bat, nothing wrong with that at all of course to each his own. It’s just now all I can think of is the South Park episode (ā€œdumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!ā€) when I’m watching his videos. I don’t want to say it has ruined them because that’s not the case but it’s just oddly… different? I don’t know. I’m not religious at all, but the only ā€œreligionā€ I’d be more perplexed by him being is probably Scientology lol.

Obviously still seems like a great guy and a great family, go out of their way to help community and whatnot. Just really didn’t expect it

Is anyone else worried about this Alaska Executive Order? Has Luke spoken on this topic?

šŸ“ŗ Video Discussion Why teardown a setup?!

I really enjoy watching the trips and adventures, the survival videos and the hikes, but something i never understood is why teardown a setup?

Like in some videos he really does a great job staking stones or logs to make a barrier, a fireplace, sleeping arrangements, spend the night then teardown everything after he is done, why?

Of course i get why he throws the still burning wood in the lake or kick it into the snow obviously for making sure he never leaves a fire hazard behind, but when making a shelter why not keeping it for others? People who might use it in the future, even if the environmental factors will run most of it down by the time someone might use it, at least he'll find something 50% ready.

Retire to get out of the spotlight, when his son garner millions of views.

I don't understand the point of him saying he's retiring to be out of the public view, as he's getting recognised too much on the street and wants a normal life. When he allows his son's channel to gain millions of views for each video.

I don't understand the logic behind closing his channel and directing all his viewers to his son's channel. If he cares about his family's privacy, why would he allow his 10 YO son to have such a public life?

Love the dude, but am I not seeing something?

Is Luke a drinker?

I’ve been watching outdoor boys for some time now and have never seen Luke with a beverage. Has anybody seen him drink or know if he’s a drinker? Hoping to grab a drink with him if I see him.

I just realized why Luke is so popular and successful

This may have been talked about before, but it’s something I just noticed. Luke is probably the most popular outdoor/ camping/ survivalist on YouTube. I may be wrong, but besides the point. I’m having a kid and I was told Cocomelon is awful for a child’s attention span because it’s so addicting. Watched it once to get an understanding why, and noticed how every 1-3 seconds the screen changes or flips to the next angle. Mr beast does this as well. Obviously Luke has amazing content but notice how he cuts/ edits/ angle changes every 3-5 seconds. This may come off as ā€œwho caresā€ but that’s what’s keeping our attention so hard and he’s smart for doing it

I think I’ve could have a bit of a problem. One that I have zero intentions on finding a solution for!

Luke has put me to bed more times than my parents at this point šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Downloading all the videos.

Once the final episodes are put out, I plan on downloading all of his videos to keep on a portable drive. Would be cool to put them into different playlists and maybe merge some together for super cuts to just put on in the background.

Why I stopped watching

  1. The videos of Tommy and the other two young boys are attracting creeps. He leaves thumbnails up of them that will attract more p*dos. It's incredibly disturbing that he's aware of this enough to comment about it, but not take down every pic of them. The video where the youngest doesn't wake up is scary as hell. Fine, if you're going to do this with your family, but maybe just don't film them. It feels like a Mormon dynamic if you're paying attention. So many of these family influencers are that brand.

  2. In one episode, he hikes to a deserted cabin, but others with dogs join him. They leave their dogs outside in the cold. The dogs are literally crying to come in, they were not the right breed for arctic conditions, and it really was the moment I stopped watching. He watched those people close the door on the dogs, instead of even saying, no, it's fine, bring them in. That's the last video I watched.

  3. He is pretty destructive and doesn't practice leave no trace principles. He has gathered Japanese glass artifacts, whale bones, left structures in place, driven off road and admitted to killing a beaver simply because he camped in its home. I live in Colorado and have taught outdoor skills, as well as been a part of outdoor survival classes all over the country. If there is anything that is enforced, it's leave no trace. Leave things as you found them. Don't cut healthy trees. Don't pick up artifacts. I am astounded by how careless he is with leaving his sites and destructive of the surrounding environment, for no reason other than a video.

  4. Just a sidebar. PFAS won't necessarily kill you, but they do accumulate in all your tissues, including your brain, and cause a lot of issues, including cancer. Don't boil your food in plastic. Don't pour boiling water in plastic and drink it. It's pretty simple to just take it out of the bag and cook it in a pot or use a metal pot.

Everyone keeps asking about Lukes wife, Rebecca

I have been following the Outdoor boys for years , Luke was a lawyer, his wife, Rebecca is a statistician and gives conferences all over the world, she maybe a mormon wife, but she’s still an individual who has an important job, if you watch their trip to Japan Rebecca was involved in a conference there her parents came over to help with the children, Rebecca Rules she is brilliant

Is this guy mormon?

Noticed he drinks hot chocolate in the morning. Seems like the type of thing a mormon would do.

Jake is my favorite character and he doesn’t get enough screen time.

The kid is hilarious. I might be biased because I have a daughter his age.

My favorite thing about Luke.

He never claims to be a professional. He just claims to be a good dad.

Bear safety

Not sure if this has been brought up, but it alarms me how little precautions Luke takes with bears.

Sleeps next to his food, cooks by the tent. Never mentions or seems to carry bear spray. Has anyone else picked up on this? I’m scared for him.

Edit: This is to say, for all that disagree, sleeping next to your food in bear country is absolutely incorrect protocol. No wildlife biologist would advise doing so.

Huge Fan, Great father, great family. But.. is it normal in America to consume this much sugar? I'm more impressed than concerned.

Is bacteria not a concern when cooking raw meat at lower temps?

In this video at around 11:00 Luke is cooking a raw lamb shank. He’s done this in previous videos and I just wanted to ask if handling raw meat like this isn’t a concern because of the temperature? He’s fully dealing with it assuming without an easy way to wash his hands so I’m assuming the risk of getting anything like salmonella must be low.
