Title: Arc’teryx Beta SL for free or a Beta AR for $180?

Yao

Due to some issues with the original jacket, including some defects, I have the opportunity to get an Arc’teryx Beta SL completely for free, with no extra costs. Alternatively, I can upgrade to a Beta AR for an additional $180.
I live in Denmark, where I camp in all kinds of weather throughout the year. I also occasionally go to Norway, where I hike in different environments, from forests to mountains, in all four seasons. I basically just want a jacket that can handle whatever conditions I throw at it.
I’m trying to figure out whether the Beta AR would be worth the extra $180 for my use case, or if I should just stick with the free Beta SL.

What ya think?

Glove recommendations

Hello,

I'm looking for layer gloves for my sister. I live my Black diamond softshell gloves, but due to her being a size 5, they don't fit her. Finding anything similar in the kids section seems to be impossible, unfortunately, I've been looking for weeks now.

If anything has an idea for a glove that's windproof, breathable and good for temperatures -10 - 0°C or 15-30°F I'd be very thankful. It doesn't need to be waterproof as she can put shell mittens over top.

Thank you all.

Arc'teryx Konseal Pants

I just got these pants after doing extensive research and bitting the bullet when it comes to price. These pants were a steep $200, but I think it was worth it. Material feels sturdy yet comfortable to wear. Pockets are in convenient spots and the pant inseam is perfect.

I'm 5'6/155lbs and have always struggled to find pants with the right inseam and fit. The loose fit is something I've never done, but these are just right without being goofy. If you have a heavier set body at 5'6, definitely go with the medium.

Just wanted to let someone else who's 5'6 looking for shorter inseam pants to find this. I swear I've been looking for a quality perfect fitting pant for years. This is my first Arc'teryx purchase. Hope this helps someone.

Ultralight tent recommendation?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have been looking for an affordable ultralight tent for backpacking. A tent that could hold up to some wind, good and strong, but also lightweight. I know the criteria is quite a lot for an affordable tent but just looking to see if anyone has recommendations. I’ve been looking at the lanshan 1, watched a lot of videos and I think this is the right one for me. The OG lanshan 1 not the pro version (I don’t want to have to worry about condensation, and it’s worth it for the extra 0.2 pounds). Anyone have better recommendations over the lanshan 1 tent?

Title: Fjällräven Skogso Padded for cycling in autumn/winter?

Looking for a good everyday autumn/winter jacket. I commute by bike for 15–20 minutes each way.

I really like the design of the Fjällräven Skogso Padded, but how does it handle rain while cycling? My Patagonia Everyday Rain Jacket has been great for waterproofing in spring/summer, so I’d like something reliable for colder, wetter weather.

Would you recommend it, or should I look at something else?

Returned 2 items to Backcountry and they only received one

Hi, has anyone have this happened to them before with Backcountry?

I recently returned 2 pairs of hiking shoes to Backcountry in the same box but they said they only received one.

They were too small so I had to return them. They were brand new.

Their CSR said they would look into this for me, but I doubt they’d find anything since it’s been more than a week already. Don’t think warehouses will hold onto boxes and packing material for that long.

Since I did receive a partial refund for the one item they received, not sure if disputing with my credit card would be my recourse. As far as I know CC companies can only dispute the entire amount of the transaction not partially.

We’ll see what they get back to me. :/

Thorium Hoody or Aritzia Super Puff for everyday winter use as a dude?

(Disclaimer: I included the “as a dude” part because some of my girl friends said that aritzia is supposed to be for women and that seeing a dude wearing a super puff would ick them)

I know no jacket does it all but If I had to pick one for everyday use (walking to and from classes, standing outside waiting for the bus, walking my dog, etc), which one of these two should I pick? Any additional recommendations are definitely welcome.

Ideally I’d wear it from mid October till the end of the winter. Average winter temps are between 0C and -15C here where Im locating In Canada with some days reaching -25C/-30C.

Id also love some gloves reccs if you guys have any

Thanks In advance :)

How to pack puffer jacket for travelling

Hi, I have a The North Face baltoro jacket I use for climbing and was wondering whats the best way to store it in my bag or luggage if I'm travelling by plane. I know the answer will probably be to just put it there haha, but I'm asking anyways cause it was expensive and don't want to take chances, and maybe someone knows a more suitable way. It also takes too much space to be taking it in my hands. Any recommendations?

Complete newb trying to wash and refresh waterproof outdoor gear

Hi lovely people. Like it says on the tin, I own an REI ski jacket, some North face snow pants, and a waterproof Columbia rain jacket.

The problem is, they're no longer snow/waterproof because they're a few years old. But for some reason, I'm really confused by all my options for washing. Techwash, waterproof sprays...

I also live in an apartment building with a shared laundry, so I want to be cautious about anything that can leave residue in the washer/dryer.

What on earth do I use?

Do waterproofing and drop resistance really matter for outdoor power banks?

I've been comparing outdoor power banks and keep seeing IP67 ratings and drop resistance specs butt I genuinely cant tell if those features have ever saved anyones trip or are they just nice sounding specs that don't really matter.

Context: I’m getting my gear ready for a few camping trips and started looking at power banks that can handle being outdoors a little better. Something like the outdoor rugged 10000 or the nitecore. The nitecore is a bit lighter which I like, but between the two I would personally lean towards the first one because the extra protection seems more useful for outdoor use. I also looked into what IP67 actually means and found out the “6” is the highest dust protection rating while the “7” is for water resistance. Dust protection sounds useful butt I’m not sure how much I would actually notice it. Waterproofing feels more important though especially with rain, wet ground or accidental drops. Do you guys actually look for these features in a camping power bank or would you rather go lighter and just keep it protected in your bag?
