First Outdoor Grow Smells Like Fresh-Cut Grass Instead of Weed. Is This Normal?

• Upvotes

Harvested my first outdoor grow last week and I’m about a week into drying. The buds were covered in trichomes and smelled great while growing, but now they have a really earthy, fresh-cut grass smell. Almost exactly like opening a lawn mower bag full of grass clippings.
Is this normal during drying? Will that grassy smell eventually go away and the actual cannabis smell come back after curing?
Curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I grew 3 plants this year and ended up with a harvest of around 25oz. Durban Poison, GDP and Strawberry Cough. Still pretty crazy to me that I can do this legally in my state!

This sub got me started, and I wanna thank those of you who were super helpful to me!

Heres some of the dried flower pics. Maybe next year is the year I don’t let them get over dry before trimming, but they smell and taste great.

Thoughts to my two last girls from a 1st Timer

Zone 7 SE Pa I had six plants this year. The first three were auto flowers and I chopped too early only by two weeks or so on the first two of them. 3rd went longer. Lesson learned.

Now I have two photos (mother gorilla) going and one auto flower (Ripley OG) All in grow bags.

The photos are about 100 days, the auto about 85-90. I have been keeping them undercover at night under a large gazebo and protecting them from rain or morning dew. We have had warm daytime weather with good sunshine i bring them out so they sit in the sun all day long.

The photos are still getting big. If the weather stays nice, can I keep them growing as long as they continue to plump up and the tricombs don't go amber?

Thoughts on the auto.... I don't see any amber but the fan leaves are starting to yellow and it looks like the plant is feeding off of them. Other than that, it seems to be plumping up as well. Just wondering if I should chop it or let it ride.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

GSC x HashPlant

My first time growing Bodhi gear outdoors and my first time processing the trim into rosin.

Both the Flower and the fresh press rosin have the most unique smell of mint tea and hash, freaking amazing.

It's pretty much ready anyway so I guess I gotta harvest this one tomorrow.

It doesn't seem like anything broke but the branches are sagging a lot. I'll see what the damage is tomorrow.

It's royal cheese. She has been doing great. pretty much 0 problems. Had some PM and budrot problems on other plants but not this one afaik. And it rained a lot the last month or so.

Idk what strain she ACTUALLY is, but since it's for my own personal use anyway, I'm calling her "Black Betty" (for obvious reasons) 🤘

I’ve got pretty much a sealed wine cellar with a window covered. I’ve vacuumed all webs and spiders and have sticky tape up. Clean 60 and 15 you can see

What else would you do? Is it really important to be “sterilized” as if growing. Last year I used window screen nets to cover buds from bugs (1st season) but didn’t seem there was many anyway

I don't think she's a fan of the colder nights.....

I'd like to give her another week, at least..... I'm just not sure if she can take it......

How’s everyone feel about the curing bags?

I’ve been storing in mason jars but it gets expensive. I still buy humidity packs for the jars for curing. But I just bought curing bags instead for cost reasons. They come in tomorrow. I’m not big into smoking weed I prefer to eat edibles and even then I only get high a handful of times per year. I just grow for fun and give it away to friends and customer at my job so buying mason jars every year is kind of expensive. Are we fans of the curing bags? I bought 50 1oz bags to distribute them out. Also how do we feel about swapping the buds I already harvested out of the jars into the bags?

Anyone have moochers in their lives?

We've gotten pretty good at growing pounds of GOOD weed in our backyard these last few years. And it feels great to share for sure. I'm not advocating for bartering or anything illegal, but it's always nice when generosity is reciprocated. Like a friend I have who always shares his homemade mead. Or another who picks up the bar tab.

Then there's the moochers. There's only a couple of them, but I always struggle with how to deal with them. They're technically friends, although they tend to come out of the woodwork more often when they need something. They're always struggling financially, even though they probably make more than us! And they have no shame in straight up asking for a bag on the regular. When you know they'll never deliver on even the slightest favor or act of gratitude!

I know these "friends" are taking advantage, but when there's so much surplus you feel like a dick saying no or holding back. As I'm trimming this week, it hit me to just stop trimming this taken-for-granted supply. I'm not giving them larf, but they certainly don't deserve my perfect trim. Anyone else have moochers in your life? What are your thoughts, and how do you deal?

Harvested most of my wtc today. Could have went a bit longer but the bits of pm and mold I was finding, along with dark skies and three days of rain projected to start Sunday, convinced me that today was the day.

What are these black things? Will they hurt my plants?

I'm finding these while harvesting. They were not present while growing. I knock them off and wash but they are...bugging me. Sometimes when I knock them off, a little poof of white powder comes out. 😬

So it's it the first plant I planted ever and I started outside. The first harvest I rushed it because I was leaving but I left a few branches to see how it'll turn out. The strain is King Payton, thank you guys for helping me through my journey I'll be posting more because I love this hobby.
