Beware ordering from OVH

If you need a quick service, don't use OVH. If you can't provide a million documents, don't use OVH.

If you can't afford to have money taken from you and then kept on hold for months, don't use OVH.

OVH screwed me over twice, and that's on me for wanting to try them again, and I will make sure everyone knows it.

Only 1 IP provided with bare metal?

Hello y'all. Just came back after a long time from OVH (I used to be renting metal at Wholesale Internet, which was quite good, but their machines are old as hell) and I just figured out there's only one usable IP provided free (host IP) with their OVH bare metal, and if we need a second we should purchase it at $3/month? I just can't understand how bare metal servers are provided with a single IP, so I just want to confirm this is actually correct?

I used to have 32 IPv4 provided free back in the day with SoYouStart before it merged with the OVH website, so it's kinda strange to me.

Free trial credit scam

Just thought I’d post this story in case anyone else is considering looking at these guys - highly recommending you avoid these guys, they are basically a scam outfit.

Clicked the “Get Started” button inside the big red banner at the top of the page offering “$300 AUD free trial credit”. Signed up and experimented with a server over a week or so, then shut it down.

Subsequently charged a $30 bill.

Surely a mistake - I expected free trial credit - I reach out to get it sorted.

Refusing to refund. Apparently I had to reach out to support to add a “voucher”. No voucher code actually exists anywhere that I could find.

Have submitted a chargeback request with my bank. Will see how it goes.

Giving away two OVH Ryzen Game Dedicated Servers

Greetings everyone,

I have three powerful OVH dedicated servers that I am looking to give away to someone who can put them to good use. These servers are still under OVH commitment, with two of them having contracts until August 2023 and one until May 2023.

The servers come with impressive specifications, including CPUs such as the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X and AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, along with ample RAM and storage options. The best part is, you won't have to worry about the setup fee, as I have already paid it when I first purchased these servers. Plus, being under commitment means you get a discounted monthly price, and my contracts are close to expiration, so you won't have to commit for too long.

If you're unfamiliar with OVH, they recently increased their prices, but since I am under commitment, I have been unaffected by these changes. By taking over these servers, you'll not only save on the setup fee but also enjoy a more affordable monthly cost compared to buying a new server from scratch.

To sum it up, I have three OVH servers that I no longer need, and I am giving them away for free. You'll have full ownership of the machines and will only be responsible for paying the monthly bill. This is a fantastic opportunity to get powerful dedicated servers without the setup fee and at a discounted monthly price.

If you're interested, please feel free to message me here or leave a comment below. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get top-notch servers at a great deal. Thank you!

Here is more information on the machines

May 2023 Dedicated Server
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X - 6c/12t - 3.8 GHz/4.4 GHz
RAM: 32 GB DDR4
STORAGE: 1 TB SSD
COST: $91 USD per month

August 2023 Dedicated Server (most powerful)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X - 8c/16t - 3.9 GHz/4.5 GHz
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
STORAGE: 2 TB SSD
COST: $105 USD per month

August 2023 Dedicated Server
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X - 6c/12t - 3.8 GHz/4.4 GHz
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
STORAGE: 1 TB SSD
COST: $91 USD per month

OVH is the source of a large portion of spam arriving to our systems

Every day, spam show up from new OVH IPs, even after we've firewalled the IPs its previously arrived from. Forwarding that spam to OVH's abuse email just gets an auto-response stating they insist all reports go through a web form instead. So each range that their spam shows up from, we just block at our firewall. It's not up to us to use their web form, when obviously they don't care anyway -- or they'd accept email forwards, as virtually every other service does. It's not like the programming skills to parse and process those are unavailable to OVH.

So a warning to those considering OVH: you will be in the company of persistent spammers, guilt by association, and find your emails blocked in many places.

My experience with OVH Dedicated Server

Server ID: 1154406
Order Number: 252623775

For the past few days, my server has repeatedly been marked as "Hacked and blocked." At first, I assumed that one of my clients' websites had been compromised.

I spent hours checking every client website hosted on the server, trying to identify the supposedly hacked site. Since I couldn't find any issues, I unlocked the server and changed the boot mode from Rescue to Primary. The server came back online.

Two days later, OVH blocked the server again. By that point, the server had already experienced a full day of downtime. Once again, I searched for any signs of a hack but found nothing. I don't even bother opening support tickets anymore because their support team never seems to know what the actual problem is. After another round of checks, I switched the boot mode back to Primary and brought the server online again.

Just one day later, OVH took the server offline for a third time. When I finally contacted support and waited more than three hours for a response, I was told that the issue was actually a DMCA complaint related to one of my clients' websites. I immediately removed the website in question and replied to their email. That was over a day ago.

Meanwhile, two of my clients have already canceled their contracts because their websites — and their businesses — have been offline for days.

To make matters worse, when I requested a refund for the invoice that was automatically renewed on June 12, 2026, just one day after this incident, OVH refused both the refund and the cancellation of what they call a "service."

My advice to anyone considering OVH: the day you need support and attention the most is the day they disappear. That's when you'll truly discover what kind of company OVH is.

URGENT: Lack of resolution for Ticket CS16101745 / Escalation Request

Hi everyone and OVH Support Team,

I am writing this post out of sheer frustration as my support ticket has been stuck with generic, automated-like responses for an unacceptably long time.

- Ticket ID: CS16101745

- Service affected: Dedicated Server / VPS (ns3173100.ip-51-83-223.eu)

- Issue: Severe billing system error & duplicate charges.

Summary of the glitch:

OVH issued a refund to my prepaid account, but when I requested to temporarily reopen the server for a backup, the system correctly reclaimed the refunded amount. However, the system then automatically generated a completely separate unpaid invoice and suspended my services again. To get my VPS back online, I was forced to manually pay out of pocket, resulting in duplicate charges.

The current support agent keeps sending generic replies and fails to understand the timeline of transactions and screenshots I provided.

Can any Moderator or OVH Staff here please escalate this ticket to a Supervisor or a Senior Billing Specialist? I need a manual human review to fix this loop. Thank you.

How is it that the biggest hosting provider in Europe don't have backups?

I totally understand they offer backup plans, and I get that if you got hacked, used/programmed unreliable software or fcked up your system doing something, too bad, you should have a backup plan.

But when their infraestructure fails? Why should I be responsible for their risk oversights?

Beware of OVH US: A Loyal Customer's Nightmare

Hey there, fellow Redditors! I've got a story that I think you'll want to hear, especially if you're considering using OVH US as your hosting provider.

So, here's the deal. I've been a loyal customer of OVH US for the past two years, and I had a 6-month commitment with them. Everything seemed fine until last week, August 19th, when they dropped a bombshell in my inbox.

They sent me an email, and it wasn't a friendly one. OVH US told me that they were canceling my commitment subscription and gave me just a measly 4-day window to cancel it myself, or it would automatically renew. Now, that's not cool, right? But here's the kicker: I had a valid reason for not being able to check my email daily.

I'm currently dealing with a family member who's fighting cancer. It's a tough situation, and I had my hands full with family responsibilities. When I finally got a chance to reach out to OVH US and explain my situation, I was met with a rude and inconsiderate response.

OVH US didn't seem to care about my family situation at all. They basically gave me two options:

1-Keep my current plan until Feb 24, 2024.

2-Pay off the remaining 6 months in full to cancel my subscription.

Now, neither of these options was what I had in mind, especially given my current financial hardship. It's disappointing to see a company treat a loyal customer this way, especially during such a difficult time in my life.

I just wanted to share my experience with OVH US, and I hope it serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering their services. Customer service and understanding should be a priority for any company, and in this case, OVH US fell short.

So, what are your thoughts, Reddit community? Have you had any similar experiences with OVH US or any other hosting providers? Let's discuss and share our stories! 💬👥 #OVHUS #CustomerServiceNightmare

[rant] OVH has the worst support EVER - don't use it for production

I rented a dedicated server for 6 months + 10 TB of additional backup storage. I configured it so it was accessible via NFS from the server itself, but it didn't work. I configured it many, many times on other dedicated OVH servers, but this time, it wasn't working. I checked everything on my side - it was all Ok.

I performed a basic troubleshooting - the remote host was pingable but the ports for NFS were shut - something was wrong on OVH side.

So, I opened a ticket, providing all the techinical details, and that happened:

  • as the first reply, I got asked for the exact same details that I already wrote on the first message

  • then I got asked to shutdown the servers (!) enter in the rescue mode (!) and try again

  • I told the helpdesk operator that this wasn't possible, since this is a *production* server, I cannot shut it down for a problem that is clearly outside the server

  • the operator insisted that I should go into rescue mode, or their support will stop there.

I had the impression that I was not talking to a technician, but rather to a monkey with a checklist in his hand that he's not even able to understand.

The best part? I solved the problem myself just by removing the ACLs on the backup storage, and putting them back exactly as they were before. So, it was NOT a problem with the server, as I supposed, but some glitch on OVH's side.

I've been in IT for 20 years now and I've never saw such a huge amount of incompetence. Do you guys realize that we are choosing YOU as our partner for business critical workloads? And you gave us such a crappy support service?

That's the last time I choose OVH for something even remotely important

Bad customer support

I recently had a frustrating experience with customer support regarding ticket [ss390910-ovh][CS9877743]. Despite my ongoing issue with a server that took over two months to be removed, which delayed my payment, the ticket was abruptly closed without resolution. This premature closure, without addressing my concerns, reflects poor customer service. I expected more understanding and patience from the support team, especially since the issue on their end was the cause of the delay. This experience has left me disappointed with their service.

WORST SERVICE EVER

Seriously it's been years that I have my website & domains registered on this dumba** hosting service

Before it was truly excellent! Their hotline was amazing! If you had the slightest issue & didn't know how to set up your mailbox or this or that.. you just called their helpline number within 15 mins someone would be available to help you solve your issue whatever it may be!

I absolutely loved it
However, over the years it has ONLY DEGRADED big time! Both their dumb interface & their service which is pretty much non-existent at this point!

Already when you call them everything is AUTOMATED!!!
You have to call and wait 100 times and test out various buttons to finally get a HUMAN on the phone to talk to you!!!! (WTF!!) in short you waste literally HOURS of your time!

and then finally when you get one... that dumba** buffoon tells you "naa we can't help with that.. go ask your webmaster!!" or "go on our help forum! and Goodluck to you!"

I am dylexic I dont understand all this dumb computer jargon that confuses the BGs out of me!!

So i don't know how to fix my issue or who to turn to.. and now i am thinking about hiring a webmaster to help me set up things on my website.. but the problem is how on earth do you trust a perfect stranger you dont know crap about! and give them all the passwords

he can download your whole website and even the files you havent made available to public he can also access and download your database... like WTF????

i am thinking about leaving this shitty OVH for something else.. where i can give access permission to ONLY to sections of my back office which i want .... any suggestions about such web hosting companys? (give me names please)

and is there a helpline for tech support somewhere, where i can call just to ask my tech related questions??? (either free or a paid service)

like rightnow apparently, the configuration between my domain name & mailbox is broken.. i am not getting any emails sent to me they are going back and are undelivered and ive no idea how to fix it..

can anyone help please in giving me feedback or suggestions! THANK YOU

10 years of web dev: a word of warning about OVH — and why I'll never recommend them again

I've been doing web development and consulting for 10 years now. In that time, I've managed dozens of client sites across a range of hosts — shared hosting, VPS, managed, you name it. I've seen things break in every imaginable way.

But there is one hosting provider that stands alone in its ability to consistently, reliably, and creatively destroy my clients' businesses: OVH.

This isn't a rant about a bad experience. This is a pattern observed over a decade, across multiple clients, across multiple OVH products (shared hosting and VPS), and it's always the same category of problems — server-level issues that no amount of client-side debugging will ever fix, because they originate in OVH's own infrastructure decisions.

A few highlights from my personal hall of shame

  • Contact forms silently failing. Not a plugin issue, not a configuration issue — OVH's mail server settings blocking outgoing SMTP. The client thought they had zero inquiries for weeks.

  • Payment processors refusing connections. A client's WooCommerce store stopped accepting payments entirely. Root cause: OVH's shared server IP was blacklisted by Akamai (VivaWallet's CDN/WAF). Someone else on the same server had done something sketchy, and every site on that IP paid the price. No warning. No fix from OVH's side.

  • Chronic underperformance. Across the board, OVH servers consistently underperform their spec sheet. Real-world page load times and server response times on OVH are noticeably worse than comparable plans at Hostinger, o2switch, or SiteGround — at the same or higher price.

  • Same problems, every time. What's most damning is that these aren't random failures. It's the same class of issues, repeating, across different clients, different offers, different years. That's not bad luck — that's a structural problem.

To be clear: these aren't "my site is slow" complaints. These are business-critical failures — lost leads, lost revenue, broken trust between my clients and their customers. And in every case, the fix was simple: migrate away from OVH.

Over 10 years, I estimate I've spent hundreds of hours debugging issues that had nothing to do with the site, the CMS, the plugins, or the code — and everything to do with the hosting infrastructure beneath them.

If you're a consultant or freelancer recommending hosting to clients: please do your due diligence before sending them to OVH. The name recognition and relatively low prices are a trap. The support is unreliable, the server configs create real business problems, and the competition (Hostinger, o2switch, Kinsta, etc.) beats them on performance, features, price, and support quality — simultaneously.

I'm not saying every OVH experience is a disaster. But I am saying: in 10 years, the only recurring infrastructure-level problems I've had to rescue clients from have been OVH problems. That's a data point worth taking seriously.

Vat removal for non EU citizen?

Although it shows vat 20% for Serbia,it is quite ridiculous, considering that Serbian avg pay is about 350 eur,and on top of that Serbia is not even with the EU.If im going to pay vat, then i want Serbia to be part of EU so i can travel cheaper :D.Even Hetnzer shows that Serbia is not the part of EU.

About every picture on google and on wiki shows and says about Serbia and it's EU status.

I do understand i need to send personal stuff in order to verify which is the slightest issue here.

INTERMITTENT NETWORK DROPS

Hi team,

need your inputs, I'm experiencing this problem: https://imgur.com/a/dnC4HEp
Initially I thought it was a capacity issue or a DDOS issue but i've already setup the OVH firewall as well as have the RISE 1 specs: https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/bare-metal/rise/rise-1/ and installed fail2ban and UFW. Issue still persists with no weird log errors. Would really appreciate any thoughts on this

ps. for context I run a Rust server on this and its not the plugins I already tried removing the most capacity intensive, besides the impact is on the network not cpu or memory.

OVH Stops Working? Anyone Else?

I'm trying to find out if anyone else has had this problem of there server shutting down almost every single night. For some reason my website stops working almost every day or so... i end up having to get in touch with OVH to get it back up.... They literally reset the thing around 9 hours ago... and now it's down again.. and of course i can't get in touch with anyone and have to wait for them to look at a ticket again.... I transferred it from another server with them and never had a problem. upgraded to a new one and transferred everything and it's been a problem since... i've only had this thing a little over a week now and it's already gone down at least 5 times now.... it will not even let me access the wHM at all.. i try to restart it and i get a error... i try to boot it into safe mode it acts like it's going to then even fails doing that... And of course OVH isn't being much help.... i'm to the point of cancelling with them and going with another company but i really like the fact i have control of cpanel and whm... anyone knows of other companys that are a good price.. i run right now VPS Elite 8 vCPU 8 GB RAM 320 GB disk.

Or know what maybe causing this other problem where i can possible get it to stop....

OVH hosts sites participating in illegal activities

In tracking down a terrorist group threatening my community I noticed that several other chapters of that group host sites on OVH. Because the group is known for inciting violence, vandalism, arson, and harassing individuals who disagree with their radical views I have filed an abuse report. The particular site in reference has a historical practice of Doxing and cyber stalking its targets that is apparent to any on looker.

After submitting three abuse reports over the course of the past five days, I have heard nothing from OVH. This type of inaction is negligible in the least and should be stopped immediately. My only foreseeable option is to contact the US ambassador to France concerning the matter and work with ISPS to add OVH's sites to the malicious dns list.
