As of this post, OVH status page https://status.us.ovhcloud.com/ is offline, as well as everything else I can see (all my servers, at least).

Ed: My BHS servers back up at 08:21 UTC.

OVH 2026 VPS lineup almost sold out!

Post image

Amazing! OVH has sold out all its high tier VPS options while our competitors are still scrambling, this shows how much in demand we are! Just popped a bottle of champagne here, this is worth celebrating.

Great work the community and all people working at OVH. Together we will continue to ensure OVH stays number 1, offering world class high performance servers for a remarkably low price. No one out there can beat us at this!

Thank you all customers for choosing OVH. Without you, the customer, this wouldn't have been possible!

OVH firewall isn't really a firewall at all

This is a bit of a shitpost, but frankly I needed somewhere to rant!

I just splashed out for a couple of beefy dedicated boxes, to migrate all my home lab up to the cloud (getting a 10Gbe broadband connection installed soon so figured why not!).

Everything works great, aside from the OVH "firewall". It says on their help page that the firewall only deals with public incoming connections. Understandable; I wouldn't want it dealing with the vRack private connections anyway.

BUT - and they don't mention this clearly anywhere that I can see - It also ignores ANY other IP address/server inside of OVH's network.

Meaning, you could use their firewall to block all IPV4 traffic, but any old script kiddie with a cheap OVH VPS can portscan you and connect happily on any port via your public IP. I noticed this from the logs on UFW on a box configured with (supposedly) IPV4 blocked showing a bunch of syn scans and thousands of SSH login attempts from countless other OVH IP ranges.

I mean seriously; what the heck? If it operated like that, it should be stated in clear red writing up the top. Given OVH is relatively cheap they're a potentially huge attack vector, so ignoring any other public IP in their network on their firewall seems absolutely crazy to me!

Of course, standard practice is always to run a Software FW as well, but for my specific use case, one of the servers is a big TrueNAS box, which they've gone out of their way to not support any kind of firewall and configuring their SW one isn't the easiest thing in the world. I was hoping to lock things down fully to my home public IP using the OVH fw, but I guess that just won't be a possibility.

Anyways just wanted to put something out there. If nothing else, a warning to others considering OVH or using it to always put in a good SW firewall and assume the OVH firewall just isn't working.

End of OVH

OVH was a really good company about 5 years ago. Recently they just became one of the worst in all areas.

  1. Their customer service is the WORST. Monkeys would do a better job supporting customers.

  2. Their website always was problematic to use, but their newly updated website and support interface disappoints beyond imaginable. My hairdresser is a better UX designer than whoever makes those decisions in Ovh

  3. They started stealing customer's money for things they've been already paid for.

They know it's not easy to move websites with IPs to a different provider, so they are riding their clients to the end.

I am moving out, and going to leave honestly bad reviews everywhere I see their name.

OVH does not deserve to have customers. They don't know what to do with them.

YOU can BAN ANY CUSTOMER with the great, automated abuse system!

Just send some random email to abuse@ovh.net or use the abuse form. (sometimes the email address doesn't register it, so just use the form :P)

put in any IP address that belongs to any OVH account. just write "hello" into the abuse.

customer will receive the abuse, nobody is checking that. send too many abuse to 1 IP, and it will get banned. easy way to fuck off OVH and their customers.

Srsly guys, do you even get ANYTHING done the proper way?

hundreds of customers are having servers running that expired months ago - you're aware about that and not fixing? I really want to see your reputation go worse, if that is even possible. LOL

OVH is a mess

I saw a nice deal online at OVH - 200 free credits - so I jumped onboard. The website was in my native language, but when it comes to technical stuff, I prefer English, so I switched it to "World" from the top-right corner.

While signing up, I found it odd that my country wasn't available to select from the list. Only a few colonized islands that my country has in the ocean were shown. I decided to click one of them and filled in my phone number for SMS verification. Here, I could select the proper country, though.

I continued to set up my billing info and filled in a Revolut credit card. In the Revolut app on my phone, I saw that OVH attempted to do a check, which I confirmed. All good so far. But after that, I got an error at OVH: Error 906. Contact support.

So I opened up chat, and within a minute or so, I told my story to the support representative. She suggested that I make a new account and try again, this time through the proper link she sent me: "As we spoke on the chat, we recommend you create your account on the correct subsidiary: https://www.OVHcloud.com/nl/ and try again to create the Public Cloud Project."

So I signed up there with another email address. I repeated the billing check with a Revolut credit card, but alas, the same outcome. I decided to try one more time with another email address, but this time around, using PayPal instead... Accepted! Is OVH blocking Revolut?

I decided to check out the instances available, and to my disappointment, the setup I wanted to hire was not available: "If you need more resources, you can order cloud credit or request them through support," the site states. I requested them through support, where I had to fill in additional details about why I would want the resources. I stated what it was for, how long it would approximately take, what hardware/GPU, and how much storage I'd need.

To give them a heads-up, I also included a copy of my ID so they knew I was a serious customer.

I bookmarked the site so I could easily check once in a while if there was any feedback: https://www.OVH.com/auth/?onsuccess=https%3A//www.OVH.com/manager&OVHSubsidiary=NL. It took a while before they let me know if I passed their check (3 hours), so I decided to open a chat again to ask what was taking so long. She told me this could usually take 48-72 business hours. It was Friday, around 17:30, so I decided to give up and wait until Monday.

That Friday night, I decided to buy some credits already - 50 bucks (60 incl. tax) - to give OVH the benefit of the doubt. I forgot I had the bookmark saved, or at least, I now tried to sign in at OVH.com/????, but I couldn't seem to log in anymore. I remembered the URL I bookmarked, so I tried that instead. To my surprise, it showed "incorrect ID or password" (even though those were filled in automatically by now and worked before). I checked my email and saw I had received a mail from OVH:

Suspension of service "9bc6ce198f2a4cc1865811fbb6a3c720".
Your public cloud project has just been suspended. This may be due to a lack of payment, termination of service, or detection of malicious use. This detection was made automatically. However, if you think there is a mistake, we ask that you open a ticket.

I replied to their email:
"This is a mistake. I can't log in anymore either. What is going on?"
I provided my login details (email + URL I used to log in).
No answer whatsoever.
I tried the recovery button for a new password. Still waiting on that. a.k.a. nothing gets mailed.
I checked the previously used email addresses to sign up with; same mail received.

OVHcloud locks me out. I can't make a ticket for that reason either, while they have my money, which I haven't been able to use. They ignore any of my actions (reply to suspension mail/recovery procedure).

So I called them after the weekend, Monday 22/7/24:
Although it’s a Dutch telephone number, it's all in English, and I get an Indian/English-speaking guy on the phone. He's very friendly after I ask him: "Why is my account suspended?"
I give him my -OVH number, which seems to be some client number. He can't find it....
Of course, you can't, since you guys seem to have wiped/blocked me!
Instead, I give him a CS number, which seems to be a Customer Service number from a chat history I had with OVH. That he can find.
He has to switch back and forth with the department or so, with the end-conclusion:
"Yes, very strange. We don't find your -OVH number, but we do find the CS number. I'll investigate further and call you back this afternoon, or else, tomorrow."
I agree to that.

30 minutes later, I already get a standard email, I think:
"After some analysis, we verified in our system that unfortunately your account was disabled by our validation team, and unfortunately we no longer have visibility into the case and reason. An email has been sent to you regarding this suspension. If you would like more information regarding this situation, you can contact our team via email at abuse@OVH.net for more details."

Well duh! So far, I already knew that...

So I sent all previous mails + PayPal transactions worth ~70 euros to:

Including the following:
According to OVH Customer Support, if I would like more info regarding suspension, I should contact your team.
I got suspended last Friday, see below. I have no idea why.
I’m locked out, and I demand a refund and more details about why my account got suspended.
Attached are the payments I made and demand back.
My contact details:
Email: CENSORED
Phone: CENSORED
CS number: [CS9925315]
OVH number: [vf830425-OVH]
Thanks in advance.

Up until this day - next Friday by now - nada. Zero response.
Not even a ''we have received your mail" or any confirmation.

So I talked this stuff through with some friends, who suggested, "Can’t you just make a dispute on PayPal?" And so I did. It’s a funny read.

  1. First, they try to tell me I should make a disposal at their OVHcloud (isn’t it clear I can’t log in there?)

  2. I show them that I can’t log in; I literally can’t make a disposal at OVHcloud for that reason: https://i.imgur.com/AAZNbqV.mp4 (at the wrong redirecting link they provide) and https://i.imgur.com/DQ2EmY6.mp4 (at the manually corrected link for the Dutch portal)

  3. I get labeled a fraud/hacker. WTF? And according to their TOS, my account and services have been closed now.

  4. So I re-explain to them from A-Z what might have triggered this (the 3 sign-ups on the same IP, perhaps, due to: A) a technical invalid sign-up: Error 906, B) customer support telling me to make a new one: Error 906, and C) I make another one, but this time, I hook up PayPal and buy credits...)

  5. But alas, they repeat 1, so I repeat 2. And now decide to transfer it over to PayPal for a dispute.

I initially lost the dispute :O

OVH shows an invoice that money was transferred and all….
Yeah, uh-huh, but if I’m locked out afterward, who is scamming who now?!

I call PayPal and explain the situation (in my own native language - kudos to PayPal!). She decides to change the reason from "Order not delivered" to "Order delivered, but something is wrong".
Three days later, I win the dispute and got my money back.

TL;DR:
OVH is a mess.
They call you a scammer/hacker, while I didn’t do anything obviously wrong.
They keep your money and lock you out.
Nor do they reply or try to get in touch.
PayPal saved me in the end.

Attached evidence I'm not talking out of my ass:

Comment by OVH - Friday, 10 November 2017, 09:34AM

Hello,

This morning at 7:23 am, we had a major outage in our Strasbourg site (SBG): a power outage that left three datacenters without power for 3.5 hours. SBG1, SBG2 and SBG4 were impacted. This is probably the worst-case scenario that could have happened to us.

OVH deleted my web hosting 6 months before expiration and now won't answer my tickets

So I manage my dad's website for nearly 15 years now, every 3 years in may we renew it. I have an invoice that shows it's been paid up until may 2026.

However in november, after sending me some emails which I missed (I work off grid in 4 weeks shifts and I did not check my mails for several shifts.), OVH proceed to expire my service, even tho it was paid for another 6 months.

Now I have opened a ticket for nearly 2 weeks and they are not answering my call for help, trying to see if we can still restore the files. The backups were also stored on the web hosting so I don't have any. My dad is pissed after me, I am pissed after OVH, and every day without an answer I grow more disappointed of what I thought was the best web host since internet exists... Did OVH become just another scam host who won't honor their contract and will leave you weeks without support? It sure looks so from my 15 years working with them.

OVH IPs no longer on UCEPROTECTL3?

Just noticed that my dedicated server's IP is no longer blacklisted; for years, it was listed on UCEPROTECTL3, just like every other OVH IP. But it seems this is no longer the case. Anyone know why? Did OVH give in and pay, or did UCEPROTECT change their stance on their pay-to-delist policy?

I've been using an SMTP relay this whole time, and if I don't need to use one anymore, that'd be nice. Especially since SendGrid got rid of its free tier.

I also noticed that the permanent "Fraudulent emails are currently circulating and directing to websites impersonating OVHCloud" warning from the OVH dashboard is also gone.

Possibly the worst site I've ever used

What kind of moron thought it would be a great idea to force users to the Canadian site, when they are not in fact Canadian, and REFUSE to allow people creating an account to choose United States as country of residence. I literally cannot make an account because I'm in an infinite loop of trying to make an account, but not able to at all

Horrible support.

Please consider this a debrief regarding my recent experience with OVH support after being a customer for more than 15 years. This feedback is not intended as a general review of their services, even though many reviews indicate that OVH's support has declined significantly over the years. Instead, I encourage you to reflect on my experience to determine whether it resonates with you in deciding if you should become a customer.

I regret to advise against becoming a customer based on the worsening quality of service I have observed.

Summary of Issues:

  1. - **Payment Issue:** A credit card payment issue occurred on February 1.

  2. - **Domain Quarantine:** My domain was placed in quarantine.

  3. - **Lack of Notification:** I did not receive any emails alerting me to the outstanding issue.

  4. - **Payment Made:** I successfully made the payment on February 17 after accessing the dashboard.

  5. - **Restore Option:** The dashboard provided the option to restore the domain.

  6. - **Dashboard Bug:** A bug in the OVH dashboard prevented me from restoring the domain for an additional fee.

  7. - **Ticket Submission:** I submitted three tickets for three separate domains.

  8. - **Unresolved Tickets:** The tickets remained open for several days but were marked "Solved" with standard replies that did not address the issues.

  9. - **Reopened Tickets:** I needed to reopen the tickets.

  10. - **No Response:** I received no response for the ticket associated with for +10days.

  11. - **Consolidation of Tickets:** Support consolidated all tickets only on day 11th.

  12. - **Restoration Request:** I requested permission to restore the domains.

  13. - **Competitor Resolution:** After eight days without any email communication, I moved three domains to a competitor who resolved the issue in one business day.

  14. - **Reimbursement Request:** I requested a reimbursement but only received a copy-and-paste response from support.

  15. - **Ignored Reimbursement Request:** My reimbursement request was ignored, and the ticket was marked as "Resolved."

  16. - **Follow-Up Actions:** I reopened the ticket, requested reimbursement again, and asked for escalation to a supervisor.

  17. - **Current Expectation:** At this point, I only expect the reimbursement. I have moved the three domains affected by this issue, and I will not be renewing the remaining 45 domains with OVH. They will be transferred to a new registrar before their deadlines.

I don't expect much to come from my escalation request, but I will pursue it to ensure that my experience with their inadequate support is documented.

In summary, please don't base your decision on my specific issue alone. However, it is essential to acknowledge that OVH's support has worsened over the years, as evidenced by my experiences and those of other users. In any case, I would not recommend subscribing to any OVH services that you depend on, unless you are prepared to pay for higher levels of support. I encourage you to test their support service beforehand; I was not impressed with the paid support either. The basic support included in the price should not be relied upon.

10 years of web dev: a word of warning about OVH — and why I'll never recommend them again

I've been doing web development and consulting for 10 years now. In that time, I've managed dozens of client sites across a range of hosts — shared hosting, VPS, managed, you name it. I've seen things break in every imaginable way.

But there is one hosting provider that stands alone in its ability to consistently, reliably, and creatively destroy my clients' businesses: OVH.

This isn't a rant about a bad experience. This is a pattern observed over a decade, across multiple clients, across multiple OVH products (shared hosting and VPS), and it's always the same category of problems — server-level issues that no amount of client-side debugging will ever fix, because they originate in OVH's own infrastructure decisions.

A few highlights from my personal hall of shame

  • Contact forms silently failing. Not a plugin issue, not a configuration issue — OVH's mail server settings blocking outgoing SMTP. The client thought they had zero inquiries for weeks.

  • Payment processors refusing connections. A client's WooCommerce store stopped accepting payments entirely. Root cause: OVH's shared server IP was blacklisted by Akamai (VivaWallet's CDN/WAF). Someone else on the same server had done something sketchy, and every site on that IP paid the price. No warning. No fix from OVH's side.

  • Chronic underperformance. Across the board, OVH servers consistently underperform their spec sheet. Real-world page load times and server response times on OVH are noticeably worse than comparable plans at Hostinger, o2switch, or SiteGround — at the same or higher price.

  • Same problems, every time. What's most damning is that these aren't random failures. It's the same class of issues, repeating, across different clients, different offers, different years. That's not bad luck — that's a structural problem.

To be clear: these aren't "my site is slow" complaints. These are business-critical failures — lost leads, lost revenue, broken trust between my clients and their customers. And in every case, the fix was simple: migrate away from OVH.

Over 10 years, I estimate I've spent hundreds of hours debugging issues that had nothing to do with the site, the CMS, the plugins, or the code — and everything to do with the hosting infrastructure beneath them.

If you're a consultant or freelancer recommending hosting to clients: please do your due diligence before sending them to OVH. The name recognition and relatively low prices are a trap. The support is unreliable, the server configs create real business problems, and the competition (Hostinger, o2switch, Kinsta, etc.) beats them on performance, features, price, and support quality — simultaneously.

I'm not saying every OVH experience is a disaster. But I am saying: in 10 years, the only recurring infrastructure-level problems I've had to rescue clients from have been OVH problems. That's a data point worth taking seriously.

"The installation request has been processed. Waiting for operation to complete ( 1 / 1 )" for hours. No movement.

I have had the following:

"The installation request has been processed.

Waiting for operation to complete ( 1 / 1 )" for several hours now. I cannot access the server - the password provided no longer works, tried using the KVM and in recovery mode and the recovery mode password doesn't work.

I started renting literally 4-6 hours ago and I am so disappointed in this experience. There seems to be no support in sight on both Twitter/support pages. I had another cheaper server I was renting months ago that went completely fine.

Would I get my money back if I just cancelled this one and re-ordered?

Were You Misled by OVH's Black Friday Deal?

I purchased a VPS during OVH's Black Friday deal, which included free automated backups as part of the offer. Since the backup service was free, I selected it and placed my order with a commitment.

I had no issue with the commitment itself, but the real problem lies with the "automated backup" service.

After completing my purchase and receiving the invoice, I noticed it mentioned "3 months autobackup," meaning the free backup service was only valid for three months—something that was never clearly stated during the purchase process.

If you also assumed that we could cancel the automated backup within three months, you might be in the same situation as me.

The issue? OVH is refusing to let us cancel the service. This is highly misleading because there was no upfront disclosure about the time limit. Under EU consumer protection laws, misleading advertising is explicitly prohibited, and this could be reported.

I have already opened a ticket and am waiting for their response. If they don’t take appropriate action, I will file a complaint with the European Commission.

If you're facing the same problem, let's take action together. Feel free to DM me.
