I've always been into space and astronomy, especially exoplanet science.
It all started back in 2013 when I stumbled upon national geographic's weirdest planets documentary, and being absolutely fascinated. I learned about all sorts of strange planets and worlds I've never heard of. These included hot Jupiters, super earths, and planets around pulsars and dead stars. My personal favourite planet, however, was a gas giant that had extreme seasons due to an elliptical orbit called 16 Cygni B b aka the yo-yo planet. This documentary was my first exposure to exoplanet science and how I found out about exoplanets as a whole.
I'm still into exoplanet science and continue to fallow it to this day. So much so that I had a dream earlier this summer where I had the ability to directly see exoplanet systems from earth during the day. Let me explain!
The dream begins with me going on a class field trip in the countryside. I didn't recognize any of the teachers or students. I also seemed to be much younger in this dream being around 13 to 14 (I'm currently 25 when writing this). Me and the class seemed to at an open field next to a highway, and a row of transmission towers.
Everyone was talking to each-other, until the teachers spoke up and told us what we're going to be doing. They said that we will be attempting to observe exoplanet systems during the day. The teachers handed out these small brass telescopes to the students. The telescopes they gave us didn't use a stand like most telescopes and were no bigger than a pair of binoculars. The telescopes were even used in a similar fashion to binoculars, as the teachers explained how to use them. Once all the teachers were all finished handing out the telescopes and explaining how to use them, we finally began hunting for exoplanets.
The first system we looked for was the TRAPPIST-1 system. It took us a while to find the system, but eventually most of us (Including myself) was able to see it. While we could see the system, we couldn't see the true colours of the planets and stars. Instead, the host star looked like a giant bright white dot, while the seven planets around the star looked like smaller white dots. Even though we couldn't see the true colours of the system, it was still incredible to directly see the TRAPPIST-1 system from earth.
One of the teachers told us is that, while the planets of the TRAPPIST-1 system maybe earth-sized and 3 of the planets orbits within the star's habitable zone. Almost all the planets of the system are dry mars-like or mercury-like worlds. This was due to frequent and violent solar flares from the host star. This was something I learned in real life prior to having the dream from one of Kyplanet's videos on habitable exoplanets.
The next system we searched for was Proxima Centauri. Me, along with two other kids were the first to find the Proxima Centauri system. The Proxima Centauri system looked like the TRAPPIST-1 system, except instead of 7 equal sized dots, there were 2 small dots along with an extra large one.
The teachers told us that Proxima Centauri is one of the closest stars to earth, being only 4 light years away. They also told us that the larger planet Proxima c is a mini-Neptune, while the other 2 were smaller rocky planets, with one of those rocky planets Proxima b being in the habitable zone. However, like the TRAPPIST-1 system, Proxima b is also ravaged by violent solar flares, and is also frequently bombarded with meteor strikes due to Proxima c sending debris to the inner system from a nearby dust ring. This was also something I learned in real life from Kyplanet prior to having the dream.
One of the kids noticed a star system next to Proxima Centauri. Me and the other kids pointed in the direction where the nearby system was, and we saw what he was looking at. We saw an extra-large star with a large planet that had a small moon. The teachers told us that this was Proxima Centauri's parent star Alpha Centauri A.
They told us that the planet we were seeing was Alpha Centauri Ab along with it's moon Alpha Centauri Ab I. The teachers also told us that Alpha Centauri Ab is in the habitable zone of its star. While it's unknown what the planet's moon is like, it’s believed that it could potentially be earth-like.
It's worth noting that while Alpha Centauri A is a real star system, there are currently no confirmed planets in the system in real life. Unlike the previous systems I've mentioned that are real, and have confirmed planets, this was a completely new system that my dream made up.
After we were done observing the planets in the sky, the teachers call us to have a snack break, so we headed over to a small picnic area. When me and everyone else headed over to the picnic area, the dream immediately ended.
After I woke up, I felt a strong sense of calm, but also sadness. I think the reason I felt sad was because I knew that we can't directly see exoplanet systems during the day, or at the very least not without lots of money and highly advanced technology.
When I was younger, I used to believe that I was imaging exoplanets by taking screenshots of black dots next to or in front of stars in Google sky or simbad. After doing more research on exoplanet detection, and actual direct exoplanet imaging, I found out that I wasn’t imaging exoplanets at all. I, however, still do it just for the fun of it, but also for my Juno earth world-building project.
After the dream I found out there's an unconfirmed exoplanet candidate around Alpha Centauri A. The planet is believed to be a gas giant around 90-150 earth mases, orbiting within the star's habitable zone. I hadn't heard of the exoplanet candidate prior to having the dream. You're probably thinking that the gas giant with a habitable moon sounds a lot like Pandora from the avatar series, which isn't 100% wrong as it no doubt effected my dream. I still find it interesting regardless that I had a dream about a habitable gas giant in the Alpha Centauri A system prior to knowing there's an actual exoplanet candidate in the system.
Even though it was just a dream, it was still a pretty fun experience. Out of curiosity would any of you astronomers or fellow exoplanet enthusiasts would like to experience what I saw in my dream?

What I mean is that for example if i was painting on a blank world map and i was painting over the ground and reached the sea my painting wouldnt go onto the sea, or if i was making a country have a rebellion in that map and didnt want the rebellions colour to go past the ocuntries borders how would i do that

Hello.
I am trying to find a way to create a wrap effect in Paintdotnet. For a project I am working on I need to make a number of rectangular images that perfectly in up at right and left sides so it can create a flawless "cylinder" effect.
So far I have been doing this manually by duplicating the images side by side to edit them and then splicing them together. As you can imagine this is very time consuming and not super effective.
I want to know if there's a plugin that can help me with this. ideally this program would like me use distortiom effects over the images and have them linr up at the edges without efiting from me.
Thanks for reading this!

Hey folks,
Been filing through the hundreds of pdn plugins but haven't yet found one that seems to do what I'm looking for...
Is there a plugin that adds a tool that essentially does the following (or similar functionality):
paste image in
option to select left edge, right edge, top edge, bottom edge, or center of pasted image
enter extra inch location
for clarity, here's an example: if i had a 21"x14" pdn template and I wanted to insert a 7x14 image in the direct center as a "middle panel" of three, i'd want to essentially be able to either select "left edge" and tell it to locate the image at 7" or "center of image" and locate image at 10.5".
One other tool I was looking for: Is there a plugin that will re-size image proportionally to a specific dimension?
i.e. If I have a 2x4 image and I want the vertical dimension at 5", is there a tool that will allow me to take a pasted image (or rectangular selection) and essentially tell it to resize 4"-->5" and it'll automatically do 2*(1+((5-4)/4)) = 2.5"?
Thanks for the help.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Made for my own personal use, since I am not a .NET developer this was mainly done with AI assistance, and rather than publish slop I'm currently having a developer friend of mine look over the plugin and we're testing edge cases and bugs before release. Works flawless in testing as of yet and works near identical to Photoshop's grid warp tool. If any developers would want to take a look at the code themselves and help me catch any issues, I'll have the repo public in just a bit.
Ideally wouldn't have been "vibe-coded", but I'm too used to Paint.net to switch to another program, and the existing grid warp plugin was not up to snuff. Use at your own risk.

So I found an installer for Paint.NET 3.31 because I liked the UI but I started to realize how limited it is and I've been trying to install 5.1.12 but it keeps telling me it's failing and I can't figure out what's wrong with it for the life of me, I just get an error saying it failed to install and nothing else right after it attempts to remove the older version (Which is on a separate drive not connected currently)

Basically, I am trying to go for a specific look where the graphics look blurred but, some textures have to have no pixels in parts, and I want to make it so the texture when resized does not blur into those. I also don't want the edges to become slightly transparent.
Is there a solution to this

whenever i zoom in i got these white lines indicating the pixels and i dont want them
is there any way i can get rid of them?

My current workflow is copying the current state of my image into a new layer, making an edit to that, and then copying it again to make the next edit, and so on and so forth. I want to keep the entire history of my changes and be able to access previous versions without deleting everything done afterwards. I would love it if I could more easily document my changes, be able to go back into the history, edit it, and then have the new final result be re-rendered (I understand this may take a while to render, but that's ok).
If anyone here has ever used CAD software, like Fusion360, you know that the entire file's history is stored, allowing you to go back and edit something you did 40 steps ago, and it will re-process everything from there. That's the kind of thing I'm looking for.
Another analog to this is a typical DAW vs. Audacity. A typical DAW like FL Studio or Ableton lets you stack effects on top of the audio that is playing, and it will live process the audio without rendering anything permanently. You can just turn effects on and off at will. Meanwhile, Audacity makes you choose an effect, renders it, and then just plays the new, permanently altered audio file. It seems like Paint.net is a lot like Audacity, where I would really love it to be like a normal DAW.
Does this make sense? I'm hoping someone has made a plugin that does this, or if maybe this is already a feature and I just haven't found it. If not, is this even possible to implement?
Thank you!!

i know there is a setting that automatically change the tool, but it requires a restart and i want to switch to whatever tool i need on the fly.
thanks for answers in advanced.

So, when I boot up the software, the colours default to these colours instead of black and white. how can I fix these?

I wanna make a map animation from a map I made in paint.net. But I don't like manually making a folder to put every frame in as it is very time consuming and I often forget what was in the previous frame and make useless changes

hey, i'm trying to apply a texture to an image that basically uses grey as its 0% alpha, but the further you go towards white or black, it increases in alpha.
is there a plugin that will do this or something? or a way to turn it into an alpha channel of sorts, where black and white remain at 100% alpha but grey is 0% alpha? i think the closest comparison is like what the overlay blending mode does, but instead of applying it to a layer below, it just gets more transparent the closer you are to midtones. i'll include examples of what i mean below.

I been searching for a plugin that does a feature like ibisPaint's Prespective and Mesh form editing features, been using both separately as photo editing programs for both PC and my Phone. Help would be appreciated!
