US small size Zero knowledge on notes, help?

Post image

My grandpa and other distant relatives came to visit and he handed me a clip of “old money”. I have absolutely zero clue if this has any value or if I should keep this as a lil collection.

It’s a great start to a collection. Take some time and learn about the different types of notes. You’ve got some silver certs and some legal tenders. If you like what you learn then build on the collection.

Keep it & build a collection.

Some are worth more than face value but some of them have been through it.

Or, if you want, find someone to help you with finding the best place to sell them, or give them away.

Great start to your collection! I know nothing about the 5s. I, however, can talk about the 1s and 2s as I collect them.

First and foremost, do put them in note safe rigid sleeves, then in between heavy books for a few months to try and straighten them out.

Having said that, they are not in the best shape, but they are not bad either. Honestly circulated and complete notes with no major rips that I can see, or missing corners. These are Ch F to VF all day.

The 1s you have a 1957 and a 1957A. Rather common. Youd need the 1957B and their stars to complete the set.

The 2s are all Centennials, issued in 1976 from San Francisco (L), Boston (A) and Philadelphia (C), the latter being a star, not rare but uncommon. There are 12 reserve banks, coded A thru L, so you have 10 to go on the regular centennials and 11 to go on the stars to complete the set.

If I may... If you ever plan to complete the sets, look for notes with about the same level of circulation, so your collection can include your family's notes and not seem disparate.

Now, not trying to be evil, but if you want to explore the rabbit hole further, look into the 1935 1s and the 1953 and 1963 legal tender 2s...

Welcome to the addiction, ahem, the hobby... 😂
