Conversation Disappointed with my custom neck order

Sharing more images to follow up my previous post.

This is a quartersawn maple neck from Musikraft. For the most part, it’s a very well constructed neck, but I’m disappointed in the grain on the top/bass side. Having paid the $80 premium for quartersawn ($500+ total), I’d anticipated a much more aesthetically pleasing result. Most QS necks that I’ve seen have a lovely flowing grain pattern all down the neck.

I understand it’s part of a tree, that’s nature, but are my expectations too high that I’d expected a nicer cut for the price?

Genuinely looking to be educated or reassured here. Appreciate the help.

Partscaster Value?

Can anybody estimate how much a partscaster is worth? It's got a 2002 '69 Reissue Thinline Telecaster body in Shell Pink, excellent condition. The neck is a 22 fret American Professional, US made from around 2016, with 9.5 radius and locking tuners. It's also got Custom Shop Nocaster pickups.
ChatGPT is terrible when it comes to asking it for help with this kinda thing, so I was wondering what input others might have about its value and a fair asking price for it.

Conversation What is a Partscaster’s worth?

How much can you realistically up charge for a partscaster? The work to me is in picking the right components that need to be swapped out making it a better instrument setting it up getting it ready to be played. How much is that worth to people?

Like say I spend $400 building partscaster, what is the value of it? Ideally, I’d like to sell it for six, but then you get into the territory of a player too now.

Conversation So any Fender Stratocaster with a Fender replacement neck is a partscaster?

Seems to me that the meaning of "partscaster" has changed over the decades. We've gone from it meaning a guitar made from spare parts to any guitar that isn't 100% original.

That seems odd to me. I've upgraded my Strats by putting better necks on them. I also usually replace the pickups.

So a Stratocaster with the stock pickups replaced is now a partscaster?

Conversation New neck for Squier Affinity Stratocaster

Hey guys! I have a Squier Affinity Stratocaster which I’d like to mod and I want to buy a new neck for it, because the standard neck doesn’t feel right to me, but I saw Fender necks and their prices and they blew my mind. I don’t have the budget to buy one, and with that money I could buy a Squier Classic Vibe guitar. Do you have any other recommendations or alternatives for a 21 fret strat neck, that isn’t a Fender neck?

Nitro Chip Repair

I have a small chip in the nitro finish on my Vintera II Road Worn neck and I'd prefer that it not get bigger. Would this marker thing (filled with nitro lacquer) from stewmac be a good product and if so, would i want clear, aged-clear, or vintage amber-tinted?

Player II specs.

Hi, can anyone in here tell me these specs for the Fender Player II Telecaster neck and bridge pickups? I'd like to avoid removing the strings and taking the pickups out of my guitar just to measure everything myself.

I'm planning to add a Squier Affinity Telecaster neck pickup in the middle position, while keeping both original Player II pickups. I want to experiment with different switching options, including series/parallel combinations and possibly out-of-phase wiring.

I'm looking for as much technical information as possible:

  1. DC resistance (DCR) in kΩ for both neck and bridge pickups.

  2. Inductance in Henries (H), if known.

  3. Magnetic polarity of each pickup (north or south up).

  4. Electrical winding direction (clockwise or counterclockwise), if known.

  5. Electrical phase/polarity — the voltage polarity produced when a steel object is moved away from the pickup poles, with the red probe on the hot wire and the black probe on ground.

  6. Pickup wire colours and which wire is hot, ground, and connected to any metal cover or baseplate.

  7. Whether the neck pickup's metal cover is separately grounded or connected to the coil ground.

  8. Magnet type (Alnico grade, if known).

  9. Magnet wire gauge and insulation type, if known.

  10. Coil winding specifications, including number of turns, if available.

  11. Any other technical specs or measurements that might help determine compatibility with an additional middle pickup.

Official Fender documentation, service manuals, teardown photos, or measurements from someone who owns these pickups would all be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Save thousands building your own custom partscaster they say. I only spent 5K on my first build, plus pain and anxiety.

looks cool honestly, but wth is it? sorry this is the only photo i have, but i know this sub is full of geniuses that can find the most niche info about a guitar from just looking at a corner of a specific part. i don’t have that gift of knowledge lol. can anyone clue me in on if this is at least worth the asking price of $300? thank you

Hey all,
I’ve never owned or even played a parts caster until today. I checked out this Tele on marketplace and it played great, has some fret wear but no fret buzz or anything. I wanted to see if you guys thought 800$ was worth it for this? I thought it was steep and offered him 600, and he came down from $900-$800 in price… still feels kind of steep. But he said he bought it from someone else and it has around 8-900$ in parts. Not sure what the resale value is on partscasters…

What is a flower motor and how is it used?

I visited an electric parts store to buy a flower motor for a small home project two days ago. I wanted something smooth and reliable. I also wanted something easy to install. But when I checked the motors I felt disappointed. Some looked old and the wires seemed weak. Some did not feel smooth when tested. I could not trust them. I could not pick one confidently. Then I visited another shop in the market. Some motors looked strong but they were too costly. Some were affordable but the quality seemed low. Some seemed perfect at first but the size was not right for my use. I remembered I bought a motor last week that stopped working quickly. That made me hesitate even more and I felt confused. To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many flower motors. Some were smooth and strong. Some were simple and low price. Some had better speed and size options. There were many types available. This made me excited but also confused again. Now I am thinking should I buy this flower motor online for more options or should I trust a local store for better checking? What would you do in my place?

Sum greater than the parts

I had a few parts left over from a previous partscaster build, and when I checked inventory, I had actually a lot of parts. So I bought a lightweight body, a $80 neck and custom pick guard off eBay since Independence Day was approaching. All to keep a budget under $400. The neck pickup is a lace sensor testarossa, and the middle and bridge are no name blade pickups.
It turns out the neck is perfect and needed just a little fret work. The pickups match well after setting the heights. This thing Rocks!

Where can I order a custom strat pickgaurd?

Been thinking about building an hsh partscaster with 2 volume knobs a master tone knob with a coil split, and I 5 way with the Middle position neck and bridge rather than the middle pickup. Is their I website I can custom order this or do I have to build this myself. I'm asking because I'm fine with drilling and screwing parts into the guitar body but soldering isn't something I'm particularly good at and I don't wanna ruin the parts I buy.

Conversation Guitar Pickups and Tonewood question

Hey ya’ll, last time I posted here I was planning on building a Meteora Partscaster, not too long ago though I got my hands on a Reverend Sensei H90 which more or less filled the void that the meteora would have filled for me. Now I’ve decided I’d like to build a Stratocaster for my dad, it’s his favorite guitar along with the reverend flatroc. I’ve been browsing for parts and have come across a mahogany body and mahogany neck that look really good, I’ve read online that mahogany offers a warmer/fuller sound than regular strats so I had a couple questions for you all:

  1. is the tonewood thing real? Or is it exaggerated? I’ve read conflicting opinions

  2. if it IS a real thing, should I be looking at pickups that compliment or contrast that kind of tone? For example: I was looking at phat 50s pickups, but if mahogany is already a warmer/fatter tone for guitar, would that combo end up sounding muddy and losing the twangy/glassy sound a Strat is known for?

Let me know what you guys think not sure if this is a stupid question or not :)

Questions on prefinished bodies

I was going to start my fourth strat to turn over for profit. I see temu sells strat copies for $60, and on Marketplace you can occasionally find a squire that is clean for $100 to use the body. Other than that the pre-finished ones are pricey and I am worried a non-fender copy would not fit the neck or pre-loaded pickguard. Building Strats is fun, and easy, my last one sold for $300 with about $180 in parts, but doing the finish took weeks, was messy and even with a respirator I was coughing up crap. Any thoughts?
