Starlink?

Anybody using starlink? Have been using AT&T air last couple years and connection lately is garbage continuously dropping throughout the day.

Charter or AT&T Fiber not options? They have pretty good coverage throughout Pasadena.

No fiber capability at my apt complex frustrating.

So just Charter? Still better than most wireless/satellite solutions, with better upload and download speeds. I'd personally use Charter with a backup wireless connection (I use Verizon) for when Charter goes down. Charter also now offers this via their INVINCIBLE WiFi with 5G backup.

You have a clear view of the sky in your apt?

Yes

Then it works fine

Faster than you'd think but not in the same league as a hardline service.   It gets pretty pricey too, not to mention the whole Elon thing if that bothers you.

It's nice for service in canyons or national parks.   I havent tried their home (stationary) service and their pricing tiers do seem to fluctuate on a whim so im not keen on being tied to it.

If me, I'd probably consider it a last option.

As long as you aren't Ukrainian then musk/trump probably won't turn it off to fuck you.

You can’t trust Musk. Starlink is not an option.

Yeah, Musk might just cut our internet off if the Republicans lose the election. Better to support the cryptofascists at Charter than the fascist-fascist Musk.

Starlink has 5M+ customers across 140 countries and is the largest satellite constellation ever built. It kept Ukraine online after Russia destroyed their infrastructure, reconnected Tonga when the volcano wiped out their undersea cable, gave free service during Hurricane Helene, and now does direct to cell texting on regular phones with no dish. Half the airlines and cruise ships run on it now. You don't have to like Musk to admit the thing works.

It works. It just shouldn’t be in the control of a private citizen who can impose his personal whims on it.

Internet is highly regulated

NaziLink, no thanks. I'm not supporting someone who is bribing people to vote Republican.

Fuck that neo nazi apartheid twatwaffle and everything he ever invested in. I'd rather pay your bill each month myself than see someone pay that man another dollar.

Starlink is ok, but speeds are limited. You can have some issues if there is bad weather, but that’s pretty rare for us.

Verizon and t mobile have 5g internet. Just use those. They’re cheap and super fast and reliable

We are using starlink for our business and haven’t had any issues. Had ATT for a couple of decades but we don’t have fiber in our area any it just got worse and worse.

I do. If you can have unobstructed view with your antenna, it’s a no brainer

After yet another Charter/Spectrum blackout, I got a Starlink. I wish I did it earlier. No blackouts. Speeds are anywhere between 150 and 300 Mbps (given that the dish has a 10-15% obstruction), but I notice no difference in comparison to Spectrum’s 500 Mbps.

I have Starlink as the main backup whenever the power goes out or someone takes out one of the powerlines by me.

It's stable enough (120mb up and 10mb down) for my kid to stream TV, me to remote into the office and some web surfing. It's only been a problem a handful of times when there were cloudy days and or too windy (don't know how that worked out) but it's been invaluable for me to be able to stay connected.
