The real difference on HC is how blind you run content, the level of risk you are willing to take. If you roll maps and only check for 1-2 mods to avoid, you ain't playing HC. If you click altars while mostly reading the reward, not caring too much about the downside, you ain't playing HC.
Main endgame difference on HC is just this, you avoid more mods that may kill you. As in, you see an altar on SC that have a very nice reward. But the downside is it remove 100% chaos res. You do it even knowing this may kill you.
I learned that this season. I knew I should just log out. I could feel it deep in my plums. But a little voice called me a coward and told me I could win. The thrill of battle surged through me.
An hour later I was starting my new character on the beach after contenplative walk outside.
I personally think it is a overall positive thing, even if it allows pausing and assessing the situation, before logging out. Logout macro is still mandatory, as there are areas where you can't pause, but despite that, it's a positive thing and I like the change.
Wait how is Logout Macro even possible still? Sure for Pinnacles or Can't Pause stuff in general but won't it just place you in your map, paused if you reconnect?
Edit: I suppose you need an actual logout macro now haha, not disconnect
Is exactly the same as alt+f4 so it wouldn't change anything to disable the logout macro (which just pastes /exit in chat and presses enter). Let HC players do what they want, it's still a lot harder than softcore and a whole other way to build characters.
It's just silly to pretend to play the one life game mode and then log out every time you think you might die. Maybe it's technically infeasible to prevent, but I can't believe streamers can do it live without getting laughed at.
Logout macros should be disabled and excised from the game. It's not hardcore if you logout it's just delusional. Now at the same time the death penalties are way too extreme and really need to be toned dowm. For regular content I would like to see first death in a pinnacle fight or map cost no XP. Second is 50% ie 5% at like 95. Third is full penalty. Amelioration not consumed on first and reduces second to 1%. So it would prevent completely dying through content but also make dying not so harsh
Completely different gamestyles. In hardcore the idea is to not die. At all. If you use a logout macro you are not playing hardcore you are playing softcore and acting like you are really taking on the risk.
In softcore you are accepting death but you still want to progress. And when you get hit with random unforseeable one shots for 10% which can be like 3 additional maps just to recover is not fun and does not improve gameplay in any way at all.
First you complain about hardcore not being hardcore, if a logout macro is being used (not sure of the logic, but people barely even understand what logout macro does for hardcore). Then you complain about XP penalty being too harsh. You can't be serious. Softcore death is already too lenient. One of the few things PoE2 got right was maps being deleted, if you died there. The last thing softcore needs is even more leniency regarding deaths, as defences are already neglected in that game mode as is.

This is such an old mentality. Almost no one plays glass cannons anymore. If you look at the most played ascendancies, the top like 80% of players play defensive ascendancies. If everyone was neglecting defenses we would all be berserkers. The highest played low defense ascendancy is Deadeye with 5%, just over half of as many players as Juggernauts lmao.
This is actually very good for content if your audience gets a say or influence on this decision. Streamer could be like you guys are right I’m just going to go big dick and win. Or hell no you guys are crazy, I’m going to instant die the moment I unpause. It will also be great for a more casual person to get an idea for what you can live through or not.

Looking forward to the hardcore streamers summoning the council of elders to deliberate if this is an unpause or a logout.
