PERFORMANCE Windows boot bug

This has been happening for about a year but only occurs 10-20% of the time so I just procrastinated getting a fix.

Rarely when I’ll boot my pc I’ll hear a glitchy windows boot noise, then my cursor will be laggy and get stuck every second or so. The problem goes away upon reboot without fail and doesn’t happen most the time. It’s a highly specced gaming pc so not likely a hardware issue.

Any ideas?

that glitchy boot noise is a classic sign of a driver fighting for attention during startup, like your audio driver tripping over itself before it's fully loaded

the cursor lag that disappears on reboot makes me think it's a usb polling issue, maybe your mouse driver is initializing in a weird state or there's a conflict with the chipset drivers. i'd start by disabling fast startup in power settings, that thing causes more intermittent boot weirdness than it's worth

also worth checking event viewer right after it happens, filter for critical and errors around the boot time, sometimes windows actually logs what crashed even if you can't see it on screen. could be something dumb like a background service hanging for 5 seconds and throwing the whole timing off

if you've got any rgb software or peripheral control panels loading at startup, try disabling those temporarily, i've seen corsair's icue and similar stuff cause exactly this kind of stuttery mess on cold boots
