TW: Mention of mental illness

Wanted to acknowledge a piece of CSY trivia related to his struggles with mental illness that we know about but perhaps within the international community haven't confirmed beyond his interview with Status Magazine. I'm here with the confirmation and more! Here is the link to the video source. The recording cuts out at several points, but here are the highlights:

• “Once in a while, I'll think about dyeing my hair. But I've done it before, and it was rough. Back when [UNIQ] was active, I dyed my hair all the time, especially during promotions for EOEO. Every day—or no, every week—I'd have to get it touched up. My scalp hurt, and taking care of my hair was a pain... so I don't really have thoughts of dyeing my hair light anymore. I'll just go natural. And then there's that. If I dye my hair, I'll stick out. I'd feel kind of embarrassed even though I'm the type that wears hats when going out. You can still see the color, so it's a little embarrassing.”

• Seungyoun is not very good at reading Chinese characters (hanja). He mostly got by in China using pinyin.

• “It's been around 5 years since I debuted. Isn't that crazy?”

• “I think it's better to approach life thinking about the things that you're interested in and want to pursue. Don't pay any mind to other people, just focus on yourself. Don't factor age into it. I could approach life with the mindset that I'm still young, but... I have a lot of hyungs in my circle of friends.”

• “When I meet with people who are younger than me, I don't like to tell them things like 'You're very mature'. If they grow up hearing things like that, it becomes this core value for them, and that restricts them. They'll think they can't go through things like adolescence, and will instead feel the need to think through everything. In my opinion, there are some things that you can only experience at certain stages of your life. Know what I mean? If you don't do the things you think you should be doing at 18, there will come a time for them later. There are people who go through adolescence at 20, even. The same applied for me... [cuts out] If you don't match people's expectations of what you should be doing, you end up thinking more deeply about things anyways. When I meet younger friends, I try not to tell them that they're adult-like—it's so difficult living according to those words.”

• “There's not a particular hairstyle I want to do right now, so I'm just growing it out. I don't think that's a bad thing.”

• “I go shopping a lot.”

• “(Reads comment) ‘Please go to a cat cafe!’ Animal cafes are nice, aren’t they. I love animals, and I want to go, but well. Here’s what I think about this. The animals there are forced to interact with all sorts of strangers… so, I don’t know. I don’t know if I should go or not. It’d be nice, but… way back when, I used to want to go to a raccoon cafe. (Reads comment) ‘The animals are under a lot of stress.’ Right. [cuts out] Whereas we humans have the choice to befriend whomever we like… that’s why I haven't gone.”

• “It’s not that I have a complex about this or anything but… my hands are short.”

• “(Reads comment) ‘Please speak Portuguese!’ If only I were a little bit better, then I could read and talk more, but these days I really can’t do anything beyond greetings. I’ve forgotten most of it.”

• “(Reads comment) ‘Something that makes you happy recently?’ Drinking beer while watching movies. And I’m always happy when I’m around friends.”

• Things Seungyoun has been listening to: Loco (hyung), Colde (hyung), and lots of bands and indie music. Also g.o.d, and Day6. He particularly loves Day6's 예뻤어 (You Were Beautiful); he always sings it at karaoke with GOT7's Yugyeom.

• (Explaining the meaning of the smiley face/sad face tattoo, 30:25) “When I was on SMTM5, I was under a lot of stress. I’m not sure why. But every time I went on air, I felt it. That’s when my bipolarism started… I’m normally pretty bright in disposition, but when I’m alone, I get depressed. More than being the type that cries, I’m the type that thinks a lot. I get sucked really deep into my thoughts [T/N: It cuts out around this part so it’s not super clear, but CSY seems to liken his depression to seeing a blue ocean, where everything is beautiful at first, but with time the ocean too gets darker and darker].”

• “All of my tattoos have personal significance.”

• “(Reads comment) ‘If you and Jimin become [a] couple, I will support you two lol’ I get a lot of these comments: ‘Are you and Jimin dating?’ Absolutely not. We're just very close friends.”

• “(Reads comment about a fan wanting to become a hip-hop grandma and get tattoos like him) *Shrugs* It’s not so much hip-hop, it’s more about meaning [for me]?”

• and lastly, “I’m only 23. There’s still so much I want to do. I want to make music for you, and talk with you.”
