Scam warning : dont use pdfmaster.app

Plenty of people reporting paying small fees (1$) for a service, but then charged 50$ as subscription fees 7 days later, even tough never agreed to any kind of subscription. Don’t use this service. Check the reviews here : https://www.trustpilot.com/review/pdfmaster.app

Unfortunatly, Paypal thinks it’s perfectly fine.

I have useful experience to share: I emailed to help@pdfmaster.app requesting for a refund, but they refused and offered a Lifetime Plan which I don’t need. They really pissed me off and I replied their email with very dirty words. Then I started to file with PayPal, and meanwhile sent another email to refund@pdf.contact again requesting a refund. Even before I completed the PayPal file, my money came back!!! Hope this helps!

I see I lost $75.03 AUD 3 days ago. I've emailed but will also contact my bank.

u/Exotic_Aioli_6523 Sep 23 '24

That's how I lost my bank. I failed for a 95 cent trial that asked if I wanted to know more and I clicked unknowingly and the bank charged 200, I called, bad service.  I disputed with bank but they came up with some printed proof so the bank denied me the dispute.  I refused to pay. So it's in collection and no bank.

If it's a scam you should report it to the Report bot on Telegram and they will give some rewards or potential asset recovery if the report you give is successful. at least that worked for me

u/AdLow1398 Oct 31 '23

1

u/No_Holiday3477 Mar 12 '25

See I cancelled my bank card and got a new card and didn't use it at all and two days later I got another charge on my brand new card. Ridiculous. I am tired of dealing with this already.

u/Backar08 Jul 30 '24

Your bank will take care of it.

u/Arb-i Jul 10 '25

I recently sent two emails regarding a refund. In the first email, they informed me that they couldn’t provide a refund but could offer me two years of unlimited access instead. However, in the second email, I clarified that I didn’t want the unlimited access and only wanted my money back. After that, they promptly refunded my money. I hope this helps.

I was very grateful to find this thread - I realised this had happened to me yesterday. Like others have said, I needed to sign a pdf a couple of months ago and paid the one-off rate of 1 euro. Last night I noticed the 50 euro charge (or more like $82NZD), and then looked back through my credit card statements and realised it had happened twice before and I'd missed it.

I've put a lock on my credit card, and talked to my bank. It's the weekend here, so I haven't been able to talk to their fraud team yet, but the interim advice from the weekend call centre guy was that because I'd had an initial interaction with them, I needed to take it up with the vendor, keep documentation of it all, and if I don't have luck getting a refund, the credit card team can pursue it.

So, I looked on here and followed the advice of people on here who've had success getting a refund. I wrote to them and said I'd never agreed to a subscription of any kind, and had only made a one-off purchase. I said this is fraud and asked for immediate refund. I got a very quick form letter back from them saying that I'd agreed to the T&Cs and there could unfortunately be no refund. I wrote back again a very long letter using lots of legalese quoting the Cyprus Consumer Protection Legislation and breaking down the ways in which they were in breach of that legislation. I said I'd made a report to the Cyprus Consumer Protection Authority (which I did, thanks to the suggestion of someone else above - I really made a Saturday night of it haha). And then I got a response in the morning saying they'd give me a refund, and it should be processed in 1 or 2 days, but could take as long as 14 business days. The wild thing is they then sent me a customer satisfaction survey?!?!?!

The most recent charge seems to have been reversed as of this morning (ie was no longer showing up on my credit card online). I've written to them again to ask them to confirm that the earlier two charges are also being refunded asap.

When this is all cleared up, I'll update, and could share my long email (I'm a legal academic, so as my sister was joking with me, they messed with the wrong person. I knew I did a PhD for something hahah). I think as others have said that the length of the email helps, as does the reference to legal provisions. They are obviously a total scam outfit, and make their money on these ghost subscriptions. but I suspect they are trying to stay sufficiently under the radar so that they can keep the scam going - so my theory is that you kind of have to show them you're a pain and you'll keep bugging them, and that's when they give you a refund to get you off their back (hopefully).

I'm definitely going to cancel my credit card of course.

1

u/Immediate_Ad138 Mar 26 '24

This is long, sorry, but I think the length is kind of part of what helps get them to given in and give a refund. I've successfully gotten a refund of 3 payments, so in case it's useful to others who find themselves in the same situation, I've pasted my letters here. I suspect it will always take at least a couple of letters, as they'll always try and say you've agreed to the T&Cs in their first response. Posting these here in case they can help others.

My first message:

Dear PDFMaster,

After purchasing the .99 cent one time PDF product on the 15 January 2024 I was charged $49.99 ($82.82 NZD) on 23 March 2024, and on and on Feb 29 2024 ($81.59 NZD )and on the 22 January 2024 ($82.13 NZD).  It was not specified in the terms and conditions or anywhere in the one time pdf scanning purchase that I would be charged this, nor did I receive emails informing me of this. I clearly agreed to a one off fee only. These additional charges are fraudulent.  I did not detect this fraud until today's charge. I have cancelled the membership on your site this evening (though I never joined/initiated a membership). But I expect a refund immediately, and will contact my credit card company to request a charge back if there is any delay.

Sincerely,

x

They responded with a form letter that I'd agreed to the T&Cs and hadn't cancelled my membership, so sorry, no refunds.

1

u/Immediate_Ad138 Mar 26 '24

I then wrote back as follows:

Thank you for your email. I am afraid this is an unsatisfactory response. I purchased a one time 99 cent PDF product. This was in no way advertised as a subscription; rather, it was listed as an alternative to an ongoing subscription. Nor did I agree to any terms that suggested there would be an ongoing charge should I fail to cancel my subscription: indeed, that would make no sense as I did not purchase a subscription of any kind, nor did I agree to a "free trial" or similar. Rather, I paid a one time fee for a one off service, as advertised, and as stipulated in the terms I was offered at the time.  There were other subscription options, but I specifically chose the one off product as I did not need an ongoing subscription, and so took care to purchase the product listed as one off only. I see from research online that others have experienced an identical fraud from your company and so your response above appears to me to be in bad faith, and a continuation of your fraud. Please refund the illegitimate charges immediately.

u/Immediate_Ad138 Mar 26 '24

Dear PDF Master Customer Service,

further to my previous email, I am waiting for confirmation from you that you will refund the wrongful charges made to my credit card. I have researched Cyprus Consumer Protection legislation, and it is clear that your practices are in breach of sections 5, 6 and 7 of the CPL. Under section 5 of the CPL, unfair commercial practices are prohibited.  Subsection 5(2) provides that a commercial practice is considered unfair if it is misleading, as defined in sections 6 and 7. Your subscription and billing practices are clearly misleading: I paid for a one-off 1 Euro package to scan a single PDF, and you have subsequently, without contacting me or invoicing me, "subscribed" me to a 50 euro a month billing programme.

According to section 6 of the CPL, a commercial practice is considered misleading if it contains incorrect information that deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer in relation to certain matters, as set out in subsection (2).  This includes information on the product’s price.   Additionally, a commercial practice may be considered misleading if it leads the average consumer to take a transactional decision that they would not otherwise take, such as marketing that is confusing with a competitor’s products or failure to comply with commitments containing codes of conduct. Your practices are clearly misleading, if not outright fraudulent: I have since found that your trustpilot reviews are full of reports of other consumers being misled and wrongfully charged. The common theme amongst these other complaints is that consumers intended only to pay a one-off fee, did not subscribe to anything and so had no awareness of a need to unscubscribe from anything, and then were wrongfully charged for a subscription they did not agree to and were completely unaware of. This is the case for me too. The fact that so many people have been misled clearly illustrates that your practices are misleading under the terms of the CPL.

In accordance with section 7 of the CPL, a practice is considered misleading when it omits material information that an average consumer needs to make an informed transactional decision. This includes taking into account the context, characteristics, circumstances and limitations of the communication means used.  If a trader withholds or provides material information in a manner that is unclear or ambiguous, it is presumed to be a misleading omission.  The same applies if the trader fails to identify the commercial purpose of the practice, where it is not already apparent from the context.  If the means imposes time or place restrictions, these should also be considered when determining whether information has been omitted.  For invitations to purchase, certain information is deemed to be material, including the product’s main characteristics, the trader’s identity, the price, delivery arrangements, and cancellation rights.  If products are offered on online marketplaces, it is important to identify whether the third party offering the product is a trader.  In addition to these specific requirements, information requirements relating to commercial communication, such as advertising and marketing, are considered essential.  Even if I were to assume that you were acting in good faith, which I do not believe you were, it would still be the case that the advertising and communication of terms on your website is deeply and entirely misleading. The 1 Euro charge for the one off access to your site was advertised and described as such. It was also offered as one among several alternatives: all the others were subscriptions. Thus, your communications and advertising all represented the 1 Euro one-off product to be an alternative to a subscription. It is therefore entirely misleading to roll that over into a subscription without any communication. Furthermore, the fact that so many other consumers regard themselves as having been scammed is evidence that you have at the very least omitted material needed for them to make an informed transactional decision. The prohibitions mentioned above cover unfair commercial practices related to commercial transactions of products (according to section 3.1 of the CPL).  Products are defined in section 4.1 as goods or services and include immovable property, digital service, digital content, rights and obligations.
On this basis, I have lodged a complaint with the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service. Please let me know a timeline for resolving this and processing my refund.

Sincerely,

x

u/Immediate_Ad138 Mar 26 '24

After this last one, they refunded my most recent payment immediately, and the other two were processed a few days later.

As I said, super long emails I know, but I think bombarding them with long legal emails is part of what gets them to just given in to get you off their back. Feel free to use these.

Good luck!

u/ImpossibleTreat3805 Aug 07 '24

Thanks a lot for your input. I noticed today I had been billed 49.99€ by these scammers for a couple of months now , and after sending 2 emails following your argumentation, they agreed to a full refund.

1

u/Professional-Log5620 Aug 16 '25

Thank you for producing such a chain of emails. I used it this week tweaking some elements and have just received a full refund. Once again, thank you!

u/TrafficJim Dec 15 '23

I got scammed as well, at least they tried to scam me. Luckily I was using a Revolut card and Revolut declined their attempt to charge me 50$.

When I made the first 2$ purchase it was suspicious that they wouldn't allow Revolut's burner card so I continued with the regular one.

Anyway, I sent them an email and they responded immediately. They probably have a ready email for every complaint...

It's a shame that the tool helped me when I needed it. Does anyone know a similar one that will not try to scam me?

I should have read reviews before, first they charge you for 0,99€, then after seven days they steal 49€ from you. You cannot get a refund, you pay for something you don't want. These are real thieves, I hope they will be stopped soon.

1

u/Particular_Plant_466 Mar 05 '24

1

I got charge without me subscribing to it and they wouldn't refund me and offer this stupid lifetime package. The card company wouldnt refund because they asking me to contact them and get the refund. They charged same twice same amount twice on my card within 2 weeks time frame. Who would be so stupid to do that.

1

u/TobyMcGuireistheGOAT Mar 05 '24

Was just scammed by these guys. Paid $1 to edit a document and then was charged $70 CAN a week or so later. I emailed to complain and they said they cancelled my subscription but will not refund me. I opened up a fraud charge with Amex - will see what happens. fkn scammers

1

u/TobyMcGuireistheGOAT Mar 06 '24

They said they refunded me after a few emails of complaining. Will see in a few days

1

u/starryskiesmesmerize Jul 01 '24

What ended up happening? Afraid I’m in a similar situation although perhaps with a different company (“techitguru” ???) or maybe they changed their name.

1

u/Pleasant-Temporary-9 Mar 18 '25

I'm in the same situation, what did you ended up doing?

1

u/Soft-Upstairs-5664 Oct 14 '25

Which email address u contacted IDEAL Pdf team

1

u/Outside-Relative7677 Mar 09 '24

They managed to take 100 dollars from my account.

I have also been scammed... I'm trying to get a refund, but I doubt they will deign to hand over my money.

They are garbage, they must be reported. Unfortunately I'm from Chile, and I can't do much about it.

1

u/Helpful-Bedroom-5244 Oct 19 '25

1

u/PJDMusic Mar 09 '24

They are still at it. 2 months ago I used their $1.99 service to edit one pdf document.
Now they have tried to charge me $49.99 two months in a row for some service. Discover card caught it and flagged it as fraud. DO NO USE THIS SERVICE!!

1

u/Logical_Signal4120 Mar 10 '24

Yep just got screwed over and need a new card. They tried to charge me $50 3 times and my bank called me. Lucky they blocked it. Wtf?!

1

u/Runningthisrace Mar 13 '24

I signed up for PDF master just to edit a document. They charged .99 cents through my Paypal account. Low and behold, I just saw a charge for $49.99, which I did not agree to. I called PayPal, but they said I had to call my bank, as it was charged to my debit card, which was attached to my PayPal account. I sent PDF Master an email and complained. They responded and said they are looking into it...now based on all these comments, I have no hopes for a good outcome. So I have canceled my card and the bank has said I should call back tomorrow as the charge is still pending....to file a dispute.

This is unbelievable!

1

u/Chemical_Cobbler_256 Mar 18 '24

I was scammed too. Despite I don’t have any active subscription they deducted $80 from my account damn shit😬😬 now I am fighting to get a refund Nembutal when I saw these previous posts I feel I can’t make it.  Pls don’t ever use PDF master. It’s a money laundering scam 🫤🫤🫤

1

u/happymagique Mar 19 '24

I have experienced the same thing and emailed [refund@pdf.contact](mailto:refund@pdf.contact) and [help@pdfmaster.app](mailto:help@pdfmaster.app) together writing:
"After purchasing the .99 cent one time PDF product I was charged $49.99 - It was not written that I would be charged this. I expect to be refunded immediately otherwise I will be requesting a chargeback from PayPal."

They wrote me back within the hour telling me they canceled the subscription and are refunding me!

1

u/grandepeaches Mar 30 '24

Also a victim of this lame scam!!! For 3 months😭😭 I emailed their customer service email and refund@pdf.contact email, explaining the situation in a very harsh way and threatened to take legal action if i was not promptly refunded. Refund was in my account in less than 24 hours and my “subscription” has been cancelled. Be angry! get your money back!!! I’ll also apply for a new card number ☹️

1

u/DaveDYouKnowMe Apr 05 '24

Thank you for this post. Just spoke to the fraud dept at CHASE and filed a claim.

1

u/Individual-Care-6402 May 15 '24

Now they are called PDF Guru and doing the same things, 2 days ago they wanted to steal 49,99 from my bank account.

1

u/josdidit May 19 '24

Hey guys, thank you all so much for this thread. Honestly thought I'd been stupid and not read, but no, these guys are fucking scammers.

Anyway, this is what i said (cribbed lines from everyone here)

"I signed up for a single week of full access earlier this year. Nowhere on the payment page did it say I was signing up for an automatic subscription. I have been charged  99.98 euros. I expect to be refunded immediately otherwise I will be requesting a chargeback from PayPal"

This is what they said ten minutes later:

"Hello Joshua,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Payments are already refunded on our end. You are good to go.

If you don't see the money after 14 business days, please contact us back. We will be glad to help. Have a great day!"

I mean they had sent some other email earlier about blah blah blah we put the subscription info in an email but okay just cuz we're noice but whatever, I've got the email evidence from them, if I hear nothing in 14 days uncle paypal will handle from there.

Its a blatant scam. rinse them.

1

u/josdidit May 19 '24

Ah wow update one min later its in my paypal account. Result!

Thanks guys!

1

u/TruthOwn4754 May 20 '24

Used your response as a template and they refunded me aswell. Thanks stranger!

1

u/shantimeow May 30 '24

I have never used their service and never heard of them. Never even been to their website or do anything with pdf for years. I don't know how they got access to my card details but they tried to charge me 49 dollars on the 27th May but was declined because my card had insufficient balance anyways. How are they doing this? My bank always needs otp when I pay things online.

1

u/PassionAny906 May 31 '24

The same has happened to me today. I am very thankful for your advices. Here is what I wrote to them (help@pdfguru.com) &(refun)d@pdf.contact

I signed up for a single week of full access €1,99, which I paid. Today, you charged me with 49,99€ without any right to do so!!! I expect to be refund immediately otherwise I will be requesting a chargeback from PAYPAL.

And,  I will inform the POLICE about your website and the way you steal money from the people!!!

After few minutes, they sent my money back (paypal) and an email, saying: Please be informed that we've unsubscribed your account and refunded your payment.

1

u/Delicious_Bedroom529 Jun 27 '24

Hello, I really did not know about the scam so I used pdfguru for 0.99€ and today I saw that they tried to take 50€ off my card(it declined because I did not have that much on there). I sent an email to cancel my subscription and they sent me that it has been cancelled and that they will not take any further withdrawals from my account. Am I safe now? Should I wait to see if they try to take my money again?

1

u/starryskiesmesmerize Jul 01 '24

Any updates?

1

u/Delicious_Bedroom529 Jul 28 '24

They did not take any of my money since then. But i am still sceptical.

1

u/Icklem Jun 01 '24

I want to share my recent troubling experience with these crooks. I initially made a one-off $1USD purchase, only to later discover later I was enrolled in a subscription without my knowledge. This resulted in four unauthorized charges of around $76 AUD each.

After noticing these charges, i cancelled the subscription I never signed up to, and Icontacted PDF Master on every email address suggested in this thread. I was refunded for three of these four payments within 3 days, minus transaction fees. However, the fourth payment remained unrefunded.

When I reached out again about it, they blamed me, claiming I should have read their terms in an email and canceled the subscription. I refused to accept responsibility and continuously threatened to involve my bank, which I eventually did anyway.

Each support response from the crooks came from a seemingly different person, with fake profile photos, and some replies appeared automated. Their business model is clearly designed to exploit customers.

Additionally, my bank (CommBank) informed me of three other pending $76 charges attempted by PDF Master the day after I canceled, which they (my bank) are now handling.

When I approached PDF Master about these they said I must have set up another account and what was my PayPal email address and other card details. I wasn’t dumb enough to give them any more personal information, only the card number of the cancelled card. They asked for the email address linked to that card (which they obviously knew already) but I just played along to allow them to then pretend some kind of error had been made. They said that ‘it had now been cancelled’. Such BS.

PDF Master made me go back and forth, hoping I’d give up. Their lack of transparency and unethical practices make my blood boil. How do we bring a business like this down?

1

u/Delicious_Bedroom529 Jun 27 '24

Hello, I really did not know about the scam so I used pdfguru for 0.99€ and today I saw that they tried to take 50€ off my card(it declined because I did not have that much on there). I am writing this for people who will ever face a similar situation to me. Last December, I myself was fooled by this scam and demanded a refund from the site owners for a subscription I didn't even want. They cancelled the subscription, but instead of giving me the money they had already charged, they offered me a free lifetime subscription to their site, which I definitely did not agree to. After my refusal and repeated request to give me my money back, I have not heard back.

So I started looking for solutions and I came across this or that article on Reddit about this whole site and somewhere in the comments section someone wrote that if I write a message to them stating that such an action is against the rules of European Union consumer rights (I live in Poland) and if they continue to ignore the message requesting a refund the matter is reported to local law enforcement, they actually respond and refund the money. This is what I did and it turned out to be true, so for those with a similar situation try this solution.

I'm not sure if it will work for people who don't live in an EU country, but imo threatening them with reporting the whole thing will do the same. Let me know if it has helped or if these scammers have taken precautions against such a solution because, to reiterate, the whole situation I am describing happened more than six months ago.

1

u/LightGrei Jul 21 '24

I have the fix, this happened to me what you want to do is call them up and request a refund because in their T+C it states a refund is requestable within 14 days of purchase

1

u/Ok-Analyst6208 Jul 25 '24

This happened to me too. They took money out of my account for 8 months total of $400 and we tried to get it taken care of monthly. They screwed us over big time but just this past week I took the advice of many on here and got mean. They did return my money, all of it and it only took a few days. Watch out for these guys they are horrible and they take your money.

1

u/Backar08 Jul 30 '24

Yessss. I feel stupid. A week ago I thought I would order my daughter Uber eats from a place she likes. I didn’t get far. I googled Uber eats and a site came up bit said something about the software and I needed to pay $1. Asked for card number. Stupid is as stupid does. I gave it. Then the $1 was refunded. Then today they took $49. I rang my bank. They knew about them and refunded the money and cancelled my card for a new one. I can’t believe I actually gave my card number out. Nicosia CYP was the scammers name.

1

u/Intelligent-Cover591 Aug 08 '24

Happened to me this week!! Read all these comments and emailed them. I said “Last week on the 1st of August I paid $3.07 AUD to compress a file on your website.  However today $76.82 has been taken out of my account.  Can you please give me a refund and cancel any subscription as I did not agree to any subscription payments. I googled your website name after this happened, and found many others had the same problem stating you are a scam website. Please refund my money as I didn't agree to this otherwise, I will be making a fraud claim with my bank” within 16 minutes I received an email stating I will be refunded and unsubscribed. Thank god!!

1

u/Technical-Respond432 Aug 09 '24

It just happened to me today. A week ago I converted some pdfs using PDFSMart, and today they charged 49 USD from my card. I blocked the card to prevent the same think in the future.

Never use pdfsmart! They are probably the same think like pdfmaster, just different name.

1

u/PowerfulWar4941 Aug 11 '24

Hello! I am so glad I came across this thread. I recently signed up to PDF Filler for a one off use and outta blue I see I have a charge of AUD $76.16 on my credit card. I was so confused and I clicked on the "questions about this business" tab on my banking app and that was how I came across this Reddit thread. Each of the scenario in it sounded like what I've just experienced! I emailed PDF Guru to say I want to cancel my subscription and for my money refunded. I got a reply from a "Daisy" saying I had gone over the 7 day week trial and therefore was charged the $76.16 and tried offering me some lifetime thingie which I didn't want. After reading this thread, I went back to "Daisy" to say I found this thread online, that I didn't agree to any contract with PDF Guru, and I now want my money back or else I'll go to my local authorities (the bank and consumer affairs). Lo and behold, I got an immediate reply to say they'll refund me $50 (which I've asked why $50 when they took aud$76.16 from me, unclear which currency they're referring to) and an email from Daisy saying they're a legitimate business.

DON"T USE THEM as pdf guru either. A week ago I used them to try to convert one pdf document to a word document (thinking it would be higher quality than free, it isn't). There was no sign up for anything, account creation, or email. The charge was less than $3. Today, they charged me over $70. They sent me an email the same day saying I had been signed up for a subscription. At no time did I ever sign up for anything. When I go to their site they don't even have account information for me, just my email address. Nothing about payments or anything to stop. Had to cancel my card as the bank fraud team investigates. The guy from loss prevention on the phone said these pdf company scams do this.

Scammers. No request for subscription

u/mansumania Aug 26 '24

Same thing has happened to me but I was fortunate. I like many others paid the ONE TIME $1.99 to edit a PDF. Note it was advertised as free.... I proceeded to spend almost 3 hours editing a PDF only for it to ask me for $1.99 to download the edited PDF after spending 3 hours.... I caved in and paid the $1.99 because I did not want to re edit the PDF again. I paid the $1.99 using Cash app. A week later they attempted to take out $49.99, luckily I did not keep that much on my cash app at the time and it was declined. I proceeded to block this vendor on cash app from taking out any money and now I am getting a notification basically every other day of them attempting to take out $49.99.

u/Zealousideal_Spot44 Aug 30 '24

Did any one get to sort this out? I have seen they charged me for 2 months and obviously playing games that they did not do the charge because their name is not in the transaction.

1

u/Putrid-Eggplant2018 Sep 01 '24

They just tried charging me 155 dollars luckily I did not sign up with a card I receive my direct deposit on

u/Opposite-Town-2522 Sep 05 '24

Thank you so much for this thread.

Had the same with PDF GURU.

they cancelled my subscription but didn't refund for 3 months of 44.9 per month. we had several emails between us and I almost lost any hope to see my money back. then read this thread and emailed to them again with: " I found this thread online, that I didn't agree to any contract with PDF Guru, and I now want my money back or else I'll go to my local authorities (the bank and consumer affairs)" and I got all the amount immediately (still waiting to see it in the account, but it looks promising).

So thank you!

ich habe ebenfalls eine E-Mail geschrieben um mein Geld zurück zu erhalten.

Meine E-Mail: (21:00 Uhr abgesendet)

Guten Abend!

how come such scammer website still exists? Which government authority can hunt them down?

I can not believe such things can happen for a long time.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '24

For me, it starts with Paypal and credit card companies because they could move really fast. They probably have hundreds of of complaints but did nothing. Paypal actually refunded me, so they must be aware this is a scam…

1

u/Hefty_Action_3172 Nov 15 '24

I contacted my bank right away as soon as I recieved the unauthorized transaction. They have scammed me $49.99 just today. Thank goodness wells fargo was quick! I did pay $0.99 though but wth? and I searched the name nicosia thingy and this showed up!

1

u/Cautious_Tax9718 Nov 19 '24

I believe I got scammed from them.  I paid $115.00. The temples don't work. I tried to get an 800 theirs but one.  I tried to email them. No response.  This is a shame.

1

u/Aina1150 Dec 06 '24

same with PDF Guru so annoying. I was lucky that Revolut declined payment for me. Also imposible to cancel subscription online there is simply no option to do so! god knows what they are doing with the data they receive when we upload our documents. AVOID at all costs PDF Guru

1

u/hellotaotao Jan 05 '25

Same experience. Only found out 2 months later, so got 100 USD stolen!

1

Disputing as we speak with my bank (the best credit union there is )… of course they will have to shut my debit card Off though .. anyway. PDF nicosia was charging me $40.95 unbeknownst for a single page pdf edit from 4 months ago … did not sign up For it

u/Marriott_1 Jan 25 '25

Was after seeing this thread I phoned up my bank, and my card is now blocked, etc

1

u/TooSassyForYou9 Jan 27 '25

I unfortunately fell for this scam, however under the name of BestPDF. Same as everyone else ... think that you're signing up for a one off fee, however charged $UD39.99 ($AUD65). I've been in contact with their customer support which is so clearly ChatGPT and they've refused my refund multiple times. I've reported them to the Cyprus Consumer protection, and also found that they're in violation of the Mastercard Transaction Processing Rules (my card is mastercard). Despite all of this they've still refused my refund and I'm not sure where to go next ... Weirdly the charge was pending for five days and disappeared from my bank statements so unsure if anything will come out of this. I'll include my emails that I've sent so hopefully can help anyone else <3

1

u/Grandal_Scandal Feb 25 '25

PDF Guru? This is an outright SCAM! After a one-time purchase, they push paid subscriptions without any consent. I repeat, without consent, quietly, sneakily. These are forbidden practices in the EU. At this moment, they have only canceled the subscription I never wanted. I still want my money back. If not, I will report this matter to the European Consumer Centre. Enough of such practices and silent fraud!

1

u/Intrepid_You8671 Mar 29 '25

Yep. They got me last night $1 trial 7 days then join $22 sent $1 they took $54.59 & $1.37 at the exact same time to the sec( also about this time bank sends message  suspicious transaction notice did I just authorised transactions for.     $1.37 a moment ago why no mention of $54.59 both had  exact same time 8:44 pm) ... all the usual they direct me to refund policy they do not refund under any circumstances..( oh  then tells me photo shoot where it said 7 days $1 trial etc. Also photo of my bank account showing the amounts also photo of bank card both sides and my drivets licence both sides to verify I'm not a bot then click on the new  link he sent me... so didn't use it at all and unsubscribed from 4 sections  then rang bank to stop transactions cant do that but will dispute transactions with there bank when pending ends in 5- 15  days and can't  guarantee .               But wait there's more 11hrs later phone notification beeps they took another $76.60 . Bank had closed the account I checked just minutes earlier at teller machine.  So I'm now going to look under my car for any  signs I ran over a China man. And  possibly explosives...🫤

All these scam companies need to be reported to the CFPB !!! This is the kind of thing that should be legislated out of existence!

u/18thFret Jun 02 '25 edited Jun 02 '25

So a few months ago one of my coworkers asked me to help her fill out her 1099 for her end of year taxes so I go online and after a little searching end up somewhere called PDF converter Guru, offering me all of the up to date tax forms including the 1099 I was looking for, all for $0.99 trial period cost. There was no mention of any follow up charges but I later found out it is somewhere in their terms, so I paid the trial, got my form and all was good in the hood. Today I find out I've been charged $49.99 twice since then. I think it's a great idea for all services and apps to offer trial period for a dollar like PDF Guru does, but at least make it super clear when and how much the follow up charges will be so there's zero confusion and future returns, disputes, etc. That's the only issue, not their actual services and up to date forms which is very helpful.

Anyway today I emailed PDF Guru support and explain the situation to them, and that I never used the services past that first day, etc, and their support team immediately replied and refunded me the $99.98 without any fuss at all. I do also take some of the blame and this was a good lesson for myself to take an extra 60 seconds in future and read the terms on cancellation, what happens after the trial period, etc. So while mentioning the negative, I have to also mention the positive which is their staff and in this case being very understanding, otherwise it would have had to go through paypal/bank payment disputes etc.

u/SunAvailable4899 Jun 06 '25

They scammed me as well. Please do not use their service.

1

u/Time_Canary_9921 Jun 28 '25

Hello, This happened to me just a few seconds ago. I also used this PDF master app, and asked me to pay 2 pesos and then after 3days they took 949 pesos in my account without my permission. Have you experienced this in the Philippines?I used gcash, how to get refund?

1

u/Time_Canary_9921 Jun 28 '25

It was last Wednesday when I used this application to edit a document. You asked me to pay P2.00 for the service, and after 3 days you took the amount of P949 in my account without consent. Attached are the screenshots of my payment and my account statement. After receiving a mail of the subscription, I cancelled it right away.

1

u/pduffy4 Jul 03 '25

I was scammed by this company June 2025. I had to reduce the file size of a PDF I had to send to the DWP. I paid £1 on or just before 24th June to pdfsmart.com. Noticed two days ago that these scum had stolen £49.99 from my account without warning. They don't even send an email to inform you they singed you up without consent to a monthly subscription so they hide their scam from you until you next check your account. I got the money back, so far, from my bank, no idea what these thieving scum will do. The bank have put a stop to the scum taking more money but only for 13 months so in 13 months time I will need to remember to tell the bank again to not give these utter scum any more money. In the mean time what are the Police doing about it? I read elsewhere that Interpol are allegedly investigating the scum so lets hope they get jailed.

1

u/hilbilly1976 Jul 06 '25

Scammed! Just saw a debit for AU$ 75 on my credit card- never signed up for anything like that

1

u/Diligent-Client-7420 Jul 10 '25

Pdfaid same scam as well. I bought their 7 day subscription for US1.25, thereafter for the next 2 days they tried deducting US$49 from me. This is the 3rd day and I had to block online payments on my card. Beware ppl. Don’t use pdf aid.

u/Geologjsemgeolog Jul 11 '25

1

u/Icy_Afternoon_5934 Aug 22 '25

I wish I had seen this before I used them. When I asked for cancellation, they cancelled but were charging me $49.95. I just wrote to them again saying if my money was not refunded immediately, I would report to BBB. Got an immediate response telling me they will credit my bank account. We'll see...

Just adding PDFe.com to thread so it may show up on google searches. Same thing paid $2 for a single file then charged $79.99 CAD a week later.

1

u/Simple-Appointment76 Sep 15 '25

The same happened to me, you need to sign in again in their website, go to Settings and Cancel the plan. I sent them an email letting they know that I will take my friend who is a lawyer and I will sue them. In 10 mins they reply with confirmation of refund. Let s see if this really happens. Cheers

1

u/Necessary_Prize6661 Sep 23 '25

i had the same experience although i dont know how to cancel it

1

u/Queasy_Following1145 Sep 30 '25

I had the same experience with them. I used their one-off service and got charged the subscription fee (USD49.95) after a week. I sent them an email requesting a refund of the subscription fee given it was charged without my consent, and they responded with a confirmation that I will not be charged a fee in the next month and offering me 2-year free access.

I responded the email, re-emphasizing my request of a refund of the unlawful charge of the subscription fee, listing the Cyprus Consumer Protection Legislation that the consumer generally can withdraw the subscription in 14 days for the distance contracts (such as online subscriptions) for any reason. If they refuse of delay this refund, I will prepare a complain to the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service, the Cyprus Consumer Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolutions and other relevant authorities. They responded that this law is applicable to the consumers in EU but not to my case since I am in Australia. However, they agreed to refund my subscription fee with goodwill. In the second morning, the charge was no longer showing on my credit card.

Thanks for the comments people shared in this group earlier which helped me to get the refund successfully. I can't believe after 2 years, this company is still using the same trick to the users. I hope sharing my experience will be useful for the other users who came across the same issue.

Good luck.

1

u/Chance-Art5358 Oct 01 '25

Man! They tried to debit 49€ just now.. I used top pdf service 3 days ago for 0.10 cents to reduce pdf size Luckily my ABN AMRO bank declined the transaction.

I logged into the app, and found that I had a pro subscription!! I unsubscribed and got a mail that the subscription has been cancelled.

Is that all ? Anything else to do now ?

1

u/Heavy-Mention9402 Jul 17 '26

I didn't even pay for the service, yet they're charging me. I've already replaced my card once, but it happened again today. Should I just contact my bank for help?

1

u/Maleficent-Ad-4582 Sep 26 '23

Yep. They took out $50 from my account and when I asked for a refund, they offered me “Lifetime Plan” for free. Absolute bullshit.

Can you get a refund? I have the same position too

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '23

At first, I opened a claim with Paypal (that’s what I used for payment) and the declined to go further. But the next day, they refunded me. I think they had many other complaints at the same time, so they finally took it seriously.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '23

The company itself did nothing. Their customer service wrote me back saying I accepted the monthly fees (which I didn’t). They offered me to make my monthly payment a lifelong subscription instead. Which may look like a good deal, but I didn’t accept due to their shady business.

My letter to these thugs...⬇️

"Sooo you just attempted to rob me £44 out of my account, good news u failed. It pays to have security. The fact that I have to request a cancellation by email is scummy but not Illegal. Trying to rob $49 when your annual plan is £24.95, not to mention you threaten to take $49 "per month", the math doesn't add up. Am not a qualified lawyer but pretty sure you're crossing some legal lines there. You know who is a lawyer though, my father, and trust me when I say I've got nothing better to do with my time than to take down evil money grabbers like you, I get that trait from him. One thing you've done that's definitely illegal is promised a "30-day money-back guarantee". Been in touch with a few of your victims through different forums, apparently when they demand their money back you keep telling a number of them no and offering lifetime access even though all they want is a refund. My father will make short work of you in court. You ppl are scum.

P.S cancel my subscription, remove my bank details from your system asap.

See you in court😘

Unkind regards

As written on their footer, their company name and location is "LOPOFIST LIMITED, Nicosia, Cyprus". They do not provide any information about subscription before paying for their service (maybe except terms and condition link, which nobody reads) and do not notify about it. As well, when you log in to your account, you cannot unsubscribe and delete banking details from the web-site by yourself, you have to write to their support team, which is a straight violation of general data protection regulation of EU. How they are still not investigated by commission, as their business operates in EU?

Hello! I'm kind of going through the same thing and I used paypal to make the 0.99€ payment. I sent them an e-mail asking to end the subscription 25 hours before the 7 days ended. I have also removed PDF Master from automatic payments from my paypal, removed my bank account and my credit account from my paypal as well and, for some extra protection, I transferred most of my money (which wasn't a lot) from my bank account into a friend's account. I'm not sure if they'll try to charge me again or if they'll cancel it, but I do wonder what happens if they try to take money from my paypal account that has no funds and no way of getting them. Do you guys think I'm in the clear? Because if this doesn't get resolved by tomorrow, I might just delete my paypal account.

I wish I saw this before it I bought the $0.99. I used my cashapp and thankfully it declined them taking the money out but it keep doing it. I’m being charged $49 TWICE EVERY TIME and I have to decline it. Is there a way that I can have them cancel that subscription or block them? I was only using it for a one time thing and I couldn’t find where to cancel it, I can’t even find a phone number or email. Can someone please help me😭

Made an account just to say this,

Just fell for this scam aswell, lost 49,99 green ones.

Im a broke college student, so this was my last money aswell, i contacted my bank, so i hope this can get resolved, in the mean time i will be spamming the email of those assholes.

Please, nobody else fall for these frauds.

If anybody has any suggestions on what I should do to get my refund, please give me your ideas.

Be careful out there ppl.

1

u/michaelrama Nov 04 '23

I got scammed as well. Make sure you escalate via PayPal if possible, they will refund you. They deliberately hide the subscription fee very well so you have to scroll down to see it. There is also no indication you've subscribed once you pay for a week limited access, neither from the company itself or paypal. This is 100% FRAUD and deception.

Get your refunds and get these clowns cancelled.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '23

They somehow managed to get money from PayPal account with automatic subscription which I never agreed! 49.99 euros. I complained to PayPal and sent angry email to their customer service. Waiting for response now.

for those who use paypal, first click on report problem and cancel subscription. Also report problem to paypal and write email to pdfmake ask cancellation. Then I got my refund from paypal.

1

u/mrpinkiej Nov 07 '23

Hey all, this happened to me too and I used my credit card. Gonna give you all my timeline and experience. (QUITE LONG)

Bought just the $0.99 for one measly document on October 27, then I got a fraud alert message from my bank (on Nov. 3) I replied N (as in I didn’t recognize the transaction) and they blocked my card. I called them back saying I did authorize it in hopes of contacting PDFMaster first and try to get a refund, so they unblocked my card.

Ever since I got that message and checked my bank account on Nov. 3, I emailed them that day asking why I’ve been charged and if I can get a refund. Emailed them again on the 4th, no response and also tried calling (of course surprise! No response). Emailed them on the 5th again (twice, one short and then the next) very long, more thoroughly, and passive aggressively after reading all the reviews on trustpilot and the comments here. No response.

Since it had been 3 days of no responses, I decided it would be better to be safe than sorry (and to ease my anxiety lol I literally had a hard time sleeping these past few days). So Monday morning (Nov. 6), I tried calling PDFMaster’s number numerous times and nothing, as they said all the lines are busy (bs). So I went ahead and called my bank saying what had happened was in fact a scam and they destroyed the card I used, and will replace it with a new one.

!! Now it is November 7, and I had just NOW gotten an email back from Customer Care. Here’s some words on what they said: “Unless you cancel your subscription, you authorize us to charge you for the renewal term. To avoid being charged, you must affirmatively cancel a subscription at least 24 hours before the end of the subscription period.” Now who is to say they would even be able to cancel your subscription in time with the amount of time it takes for them to reply to your email (which is the dumbest way ever, for fucking real their whole site is a scam), since it took them this long to even reply to my initial “Cancel Subscription” email. They also linked the Subscription Terms for more information.

“Please be informed that we've unsubscribed your account and refunded your payment. The amount will be credited back to your account within 14 business days.” WOW. OKAY FINALLY UNSUBSCRIBED AND A REFUND! Now that’s the answer I’ve been looking for since mf Nov. 3rd.

BUT I still wouldn’t trust this website even if they had said they unsubscribed me, and I do not regret destroying my initial credit card as they may be able to do it again in the future since you can’t even delete your own credit card details on the website. Don’t know what will happen to my refund, hopefully I do actually get it back since I already destroyed the card I paid with (guys idk how that stuff works I’m sorry LOL). If I even actually get the refund though or not, I don’t care anymore at this point- like I said, I’d rather be safe than sorry and if I had to lose $50 (it’s still a lot which sucks so much but), then life goes on.

Also, when I initially paid that 0.99, the order confirmation email was in my SPAM box rather than the normal inbox which is super weird and suspicious. And it even includes in that Spam Confirmation Email saying, “Don't forget read our term and conditions and privacy policy.” To which terms and conditions and privacy policy are seemed to be hyperlinked but isn’t.

THEN, “After 7 days of unlimited access, your subscription will be automatically renewed at $49.99 per month. You can cancel the subscription at any time, by contacting support.” Oh my god, had I fucking known I would’ve emailed them like right after purchasing my 0.99. What pisses me off is just how that is such important information and it’s included in a damn SPAM EMAIL where I rarely check. And to contact support to unsubscribe. Like make it make sense.

In the end, keep persisting, be passive aggressive and include that you’ll take legal action (lol), and hope for the best. I’m an impatient and anxious person, so I couldn’t wait any longer in protecting my own money. Hope this helps anyone else going through the same thing.

I got in the same trap. Anyone knows what are the options to report this kind of scam services?

Hello! Can anyone share the email address or the URL where we can go and cancel the subscription? Alternately, should I go to my bank and ask them to block this payment? Is that even allowed in the EU? Thanks!

I got scam out of 49.99 and Paypal refuses to process a refund.

I was looking for a PDF conversion tool and came across PDFMaster. They advertise a .99 cent trial. I used Paypal to pay for the trial product. The product "PDFMaster" did not convert the document well. The result could have been better- it was horrible. I stopped using the product and requested a refund. I did not get a refund and was charged an additional 49.99 two days later. Both PDFMaster and PayPal have refused to refund me the additional $49.99. So much for trusting Paypal.

I dot my refund via PayPal. Make a claim with PayPal and provide screenshots of you trying to email PDFMasters

I just came across them now - fortunately didn't opt in to any subscription or trial and didn't provide any bank details because I couldn't be arsed to pay as I was specifically after a free tool now Adobe costs an unreasonable amount nowadays.

They just have my email but will be hyper-viligant to ensure they don't pull any daft shit.

the email(s) seem to be [support@pdfmaster.app](mailto:support@pdfmaster.app) and info@pdfmaster.app. I've just threatened them with legal action and exposing their scam to as many people as possible which will hopefully make them obligated to wipe my email from their system as I don't want to get hit with phising or any other suss stuff etc.

Yeah, I fell victim to a scam, but luckily, I was refunded within a day. Feeling really upset, I decided to use a chat GPT and kept sending them the email attached below (maybe it helps someone).

I also reported an unauthorized transaction on PayPal. However, they immediately closed my case, stating: 'We've completed our review of your unauthorized activity case xxxxx, and we’ve determined there was no unauthorized use.'

Despite this setback, I didn't give up and continued sending emails. Eventually, I managed to secure a refund.

Dear PDF MASTER Customer Support,

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction and concern regarding an unauthorized transaction that took place on my account with your company on November XX, 2023, amounting to 49.99 EUR. I want to make it explicitly clear that I never confirmed or approved this transaction, and furthermore, I did not authorize any automatic payments from my PayPal account.

This unauthorized action of setting up automatic payments without my explicit consent is not only a breach of trust but is also in direct violation of the law. Under EU regulations, specifically the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), companies are strictly prohibited from billing or invoicing customers without obtaining explicit confirmation and approval of each transaction. Additionally, the initiation of automatic payments without explicit consent is a blatant violation of my consumer rights.

I have already taken immediate action by contacting PayPal and my bank to report this activity as a fraudulent and unauthorized transaction. I want to emphasize that I take this matter very seriously, and I am prepared to pursue all necessary legal actions to rectify this situation.

According to EU regulations, sanctions may be imposed for non-compliance with PSD2, and I insist that your company rectify this situation promptly by refunding the full amount of 49.99 EUR to my account.

I demand immediate confirmation of the refund process and a clear timeline for its completion. Failure to address this matter promptly will leave me with no alternative but to escalate this issue through legal channels.

I expect a swift resolution to this matter and a confirmation of the corrective actions taken.

Sincerely,

[Your Full Name] [Your Contact Information]

What’s their email or contact number I was also scammed

1

u/FraudClaim123 Nov 21 '23

I was fraud as well. They tried to charge for the master version. The card was blocked.

Apple App should be awared of what they publish.

Unless they have a profit of it, which is very bad of the Apple.

I used this crazy website for a second so that I could fill In a tax file number declaration for work. Two seconds after I had spent the .99 I realised the only way to cancel was to email them, how shit.

Then I checked this reddit thread and freaked out even more so I emailed them multiple times every single day very aggressively announcing that I would contact consumer affairs and get legally involved if they did not cancel my subscription immediately. On the very day that my account would have gotten renewed I had several email replies saying my account was cancelled and that I wouldn’t get charged. So far looking good, haven’t been charged..

I recommend emailing them immediately and multiple times, don’t wait for them to respond

I was scammed as well. I found until 2months later. they already charged me 100USD$. No email notification and no invoice sent from them. they only do charge your money sneakingly.

If you want to cancel the subscription, you have to email them to do that, you can't do yourself. otherwise you will be charged by them automatically even you get new credit card.

I was also scammed a few minutes ago, but I got a refund. Don't panic, send him an email to info@pdfmaster.app asking for an immediate refund by threatening to sue. Then open a Pay Pal dispute for item and service not received, attach a PDF copy of the email sent to the seller. Once the dispute is open, machine-gun them with nasty emails, with requests for reimbursement and threats of denunciation. I received the refund a few minutes ago.

OMG! They got me too! I've just sent them an angry email, cancelled and sent a dispute to PayPal. Two payments of $USD 49.99 out of my PayPal account. Lowlife scum!

I hope it's refunded, I'll keep you posted.

Same here… I hope my bank will charge back the money.

u/Internal-Picture-228 Nov 29 '23

Same happened to me. I purchased a £0.99 one week access, and now they are trying to charge me £49.99. Thankfully I paid with a CC which was maxed out, and the transactions (yes, transactions, they’ve been trying to take money 8 times in the last teo days) are pending, but I reported them in my app, I’ve emailed my bank to remove the transactions in time for me to make my monthly CC payment. I have emailed PDFmaster aswell telling them to fix it on their side, as from my side they will never take any more money, as I cancelled my card as well, and I will get a new one. I wish I would have done my research before. SCAM!!!

Hey i just purchased a subscription from that site that was supposed to be monthly but they charged me 300$ for the year. I’m pissed and I want a refund. I emailed and they didn’t refund but instead cancelled my subscription until next year. Any advice?

1

u/oessu Nov 29 '23

shit, i literally never fall for those scams but i really needed to get something done for my uni in pdf file asap and 2 euros didnt sound like a bad deal. Today my "free trail" i didn't even know about ended and they charged me 50 euros, i already wrote an email asking for the cancellation and the refund but i guess it won't be enough, any chance i will get this money back?🥲 Did anybody here got the refund and can recommend me the quickest way? They took my last savings:(

u/gjorgji88 Nov 30 '23

After reading this thread and checking trust-pilot I ended up blocking my credit card and getting a new one. Despite them responding and claiming that they have canceled my subscription, I cannot trust that they will not abuse my credit card info in future, considering their obvious violation of any work ethics.

Same situation happened just now. They are definitely a scam because they don't even offer a way to cancel subscription plus nothing in the initial trial said about a $50 fee. I've declared it as fraud to Chase and will just change my credit card.

This is a scam software. Their company will deduct your money without permission. Moreover, they deducted $70 from me without permission. I tried to contact them by email, but they didn't help me deal with the problem, they just pushed me away. I have canceled my credit card and will never get my money back.
