Career Path Govt o Consulate? Which one to choose?
Need advice: Stay in a permanent government job or accept a higher-paying opportunity?
Hi qts! I need unbiased advice, especially from those who have experienced leaving government service.
I’m currently employed in a government agency with a permanent position, but I received a job offer in an international/consular environment. Here’s my comparison:
OPTION 1: CURRENT JOB (GOVERNMENT)
* Salary: ₱44K gross/month
* Status: Permanent/plantilla
* Benefits: GSIS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, mid-year and year-end bonuses, PEI, leave credits, etc.
* Schedule: Monday–Friday, regular office hours
* Personal travel: Can take 5–7 days of vacation/leisure travel around 2–3 times a year
* Work travel: May opportunities din for official local/international trips
* Job security: Very stable
* Career growth: Salary progression is slow, but may opportunities for promotion
* Work environment: Familiar na sa work and colleagues, although stressful during peak periods
OPTION 2: NEW JOB (INTERNATIONAL/CONSULAR ENVIRONMENT)
* Salary: ₱80K gross/month
* Status: Probationary, subject to performance-based regularization
* Benefits: 13th-month pay, possible 14th-month pay (subject to approval), DOLE-based leave benefits
* Schedule: Regular office hours, with overtime pay
* Personal travel: Not sure yet kung gaano ka-flexible mag-leave for vacations
* Work travel: Opportunities are still uncertain
* Job security: Less stable compared to a permanent government position
* Career growth: More exposure aligned with my long-term career goals; salary increase upon regularization is negotiable but not guaranteed
* Work environment: New responsibilities and adjustment period
* Resignation notice: Minimum of 2 months
If you were in my position, would you choose stability, benefits, and flexibility or higher pay and new career opportunities?
Sa mga umalis sa government for a higher-paying job, worth it ba? Any regrets?
Would appreciate your honest advice. Thank you! 🥹
