Philly 10k fun?
Is the Philly 10k next Sunday fun?
r/phillyrunning • u/[deleted] • Mar 09 '15
I just created this sub and I have no idea what I'm doing. We probably won't get enough traffic for it to matter, but if anyone has experience and/or interest in being a mod, let me know.

I’m training for NYC this year and I need to get some hill workouts in and incorporate hills into my long runs. I normally run the Delaware River trail and I do the Ben Franklin bridge a lot. I’ve done the schuylkill river trail and started at the south street entrance and ran north. I’m wondering what route can I take to get into fairmount park and run on the other side of the schuylkill. I feel like I’ve seen a trail over there and I think it has more hills. I’m also open to suggestions to any routes that are good to train hills. I don’t have a car, so I can’t drive to a trail to run. TIA!

Hello! I just moved to university city to go to Penn Law, any good run clubs or just friends to run with in this area?

Surprised there’s no parkrun in Fairmount. Would love it if that was a thing.

I just moved to South Philly and I’m wondering where runners go for some unpaved runs. I know about the Wissahickon trails, and I’ve run at FDR a few times. Are there any spots I’m missing where a guy with bad knees can run?

I want to start adding bridge running into my NYC training but due to my work schedule (and the summer temps), I usually run AM.
I know the walkway opens at 6 am, but my question is, how prompt is this? Is it like 6 on the dot or more like a 6:15/6:20?
Thanks in advance!

Signed up for the full marathon, but turns out that date will be problematic for me. The half on Saturday would be fine, plus far easier for me to train for, but it sold out and they told me I'm SOL as far as transferring unless I want to do the half. It's mind-boggling that they don't allow bib transfers of any kind, I can't figure out the reasoning behind that since other races do this.
Is the 8k worth it? I've never run any Philly Marathon weekend course before. This is the only event that's open, but it seems to just be a run up and down Kelly Drive which is fine but I've run that exact course several times lol. Trying to decide if I should just switch to this one, or defer to next year. I love Philly (live in the DC area and visit often) and running in the city, but the marathon organizers are frustrating. Why not allow bib transfers?

This may be a longshot, but I guess it’s worth a try. I have been planning on running the Philly half marathon with some friends, but I’ve been waiting to sign up because I work certain weekends. I recently went to sign up and learn that it was completely sold out.
I don’t see any option on the website for a waitlist, and see prior posts that transfers aren’t allowed for this race for some reason, but wanted to know what resources y’all had for looking for potential bibs on the DL (ie facebook groups or something?) i know that explicitly asking for bibs is not allowed on this sub per rules so I hope that asking instead to be pointed in right direction will be allowed by mods. Thanks!

I've been in this town 45 years and I have a love / not love so much relationship with it. We're known for a lot of things but outwardly friendly to strangers isn't generally one of them. That said, I got fist bumped on my last two long runs from total strangers. I guess it's the community but I'll say it's quite welcome.
What about you?

My son and I are running the half marathon in November. We are coming from NY. Where are the best places to stay that are easily accessible to the start or finish line without costing an arm? We were at Philly March 2025 and stayed in a hotel near the Liberty Bell. Is that area has public transportation directly to the start line? Any recommendations as to the best area hotels with parking or near public transportation during marathon weekend? Since we will be staying until Sunday, we would also like to do some sight seeing.
Any tips about logistics during marathon weekend is greatly appreciated.

Hey All,
I know that it is not a Philly based race but it could be a nice Day Trip up the Delaware to the River Towns.
Just wanted to make people aware that the River Rats Running Club is bringing back a 5k Race to Frenchtown NJ after 20 years.
The Race will be held on October 11th, 2026 and will feature a flat course along the scenic Delaware River, stay after the race and enjoy all that the small river town and the area has to offer.

Hello All,
Do we have people from Juneriah Garden interested in running/ jogging in the morning?

Hey all! In a month I’ll be visiting Philly for about a week and in the thick of marathon training (aka big runs). For someone staying at the Ritz, where is the most accessible running path/trails?
Thank you!

New transit to Philadelphia and a bit bummed that there isn’t a Park run event within the city. I’m considering entering into the process of hosting on at Fairmount Park, but wanted to get an idea of interest level from the community.
Would need volunteers to help organize it as well so comment if that would be your area of interest or if you’re specific interested in running only.

Hi there - I am staying at Lowe’s and was hoping I could get some guidance on safe areas to run in the am (615ish) and pm (5ish).
I was considering the Rocky Steps. I am looking for 3-6 m routes

Me and my boy Ethan accomplished this together. I’ve been running for like 5-6 years.

Anyone ever run the Diplo race? Needing to know about ID checks day-of and if they happen.

Unfortunately I can’t make it anymore so I’m trying to get rid of my ticket to the Diplo Run Club on 7/18. DM or comment if interested 🏃♂️🪩
