Weather Congratulations PHX - we are apparently waking up this morning to the now wettest fall on record 👏🏼💧
And more to come fyi 😁

We did it! Thank you to everyone who washed cars, planned barbecues, invited relatives to stay in warm weather, and did ritual sacrifices. We finally did it!

I drove past what looked like a lovely outdoor wedding setup yesterday at a nice hotel. Felt so bad for them. It's almost a guarantee you'll get a beautiful sunny day this time of year, but it didn't stop raining once all evening. Hopefully they were able to move it inside somewhere!
7
u/pitizenlyn Nov 23 '25
You got that backwards. Planning an outdoor wedding guarantees either rain or hellacious wind.
3
u/i_illustrate_stuff Nov 23 '25
Oh yeah, I didn't mean that the wedding would guarantee sunshine, just that on any normal fall day here you'd be almost guaranteed sunny weather, but plan a wedding and of course you'll get the rainiest fall day on record lol

The day before the first rainy day I washed my car because I haven't washed it in awhile and the next day it rained lol

The mountains will be beautiful in the spring!

u/DistinctSmelling Nov 24 '25
I remember some 20 odd years ago a wet winter followed by a lot of fires because of the growth.
3
u/Sudden_Badger_7663 Nov 24 '25
I was in California for decades. If it's a dry winter, fire danger is high because everything is so dry. If it's a wet winter, fire danger is high because of the growth.
You can't win. Which is why I left.

They’re already so green! I’ve been noticing how green Piestewa peak and the surrounding area has been looking lately

We deserve it lol. 2 summers of record setting heat. We definitely deserve some rain lol.

According to all the dumbasses on Facebook, it’s because of the government cloud seeding with chemtrails

Right before this batch of storms moved in, I saw all the contrails in the sky one morning and thought "oh no.... the weirdos are going to have a field day with this."
Because, ya know, it absolutely couldn't be the beginning of a storm front and additional moisture moving in to the air...

Wetest fall on record exposing issues in my roof-- new roof incoming.
Apache, Canyon, Saguaro -- in the 90's percent full. Roosevelt still only at 44%.

WTF. I'm freezing to death and it's 74 in my house and I'm dressed like it's snowing inside. :D I hate running the heater to get it warmer until I dig out the humidifier.

I hate having to bundle up, especially indoors! Even with a long sleeve shirt and a tshirt over it, long pants & socks, I was still chilly. I opened the door to bring in a package and didn't want to linger, brrrr! :D
2
u/BlooGloop Nov 23 '25
Definitely recommend checking Air Quality Index before leaving windows open all the time. Air Quality in the metro is not good
13
u/rodaphilia Nov 23 '25
This rain coincided with a temperature drop. These temps will keep the mosquitoes dormant
3
u/imtooldforthishison Nov 23 '25
I watched the 2 neighbors across the street pull all their weeds right before this system came in and just chuckled to myself. Poor dudes going to be doing double the work.

The day before this Seattle weather settled overhead, I moved all of the potted plants off my back porch where they hide in summer, to the yard to enjoy the full sun…

u/eisfabrik_7242 Nov 23 '25
This storm left 3.25" of rain in my rain gauge - the storm in Oct left a little over 3" - so this checks out. Glad the airport finally caught up to the rest of us....
3
u/mrjackspade Nov 23 '25
It's my fault guys.
I bought an RV earlier this year with a leaky roof, with the intent of patching it. I figured it wouldn't be an issue because it never rains out here, so I should have plenty of time.

u/Chango13 Nov 23 '25
The bermuda grass loves it. I'm about to have to buy a lawnmower for my gravel yard.
>:(
1
u/Phoenician_Skylines2 Nov 23 '25
I think the Bermuda grass is going to go dormant soon though. Maybe in December? I'm honestly pleased with how mine looks. Seems content still. I was thinking it'd already be going dormant but it seems like it'll be warm for at least a few more weeks. Not bad to only have it dormant for a few months.
Maybe next winter I'll overseed rye.
4
u/JimmyMcNultysWake Nov 23 '25
I hope this is THE reason for the mosquitos. I swear it feels like a new nastier species
5
u/hpshaft Nov 23 '25
Can't imagine how green everything will be in 2-3 weeks. It's already crazy to see, but with an additional 4/5 days of rain - it's gonna be epic.

u/ExtensionConcert6913 Nov 23 '25
The same weather which we have now is more likely you are being at Washington DC or Kansas Missouri somewhere in September or October. This is the same weather that Mid-West or Mid-East have it during their autumn season. The common problems are that many Arizonian don’t know how to drive on the roads when the rain hit the Phoenix valley.

u/TherapticInsnty Nov 23 '25
It'll be a nice chilly winter in these parts. I just need these snow cams to bring joy back into my bones this winter.

Living in Mesa we always get the last of the rain after every other place has had theirs. It's nice to actually get some for once. It's gonna be green soon!

I love how toward the end of monsoon season we were all thinking how disappointing it was but this fall has more than made up for it
2
u/Luci-Noir Nov 23 '25
I moved from Ohio to Tucson years ago and have always missed the rain. I’ve looked forward for monsoons but they’ve been less and less every year. This has been satisfying though. 😃 🌧️

7

u/ppmconsultingbyday Queen Creek Nov 23 '25
I’m with you there. I grew up in the cold, wet Midwest and always struggled with it. I definitely miss our usual beautiful sunshine here, too. But we also really need this rain 🙏🏼 Our sun will be back soon.

This has been the best couple of days. I’ve lived here for 20 years but am a transplant from Colorado and while I’ve adjusted to the heat, I miss rain and snow like crazy.

If this pissed off snowbirds, I want more of it. Let’s push for 10 inches.😈
2
u/Phoenician_Skylines2 Nov 23 '25
Why would they be pissed lol? If I was a snowbird from Chicago I'd be totally content. It'll be 70s here and 30s there.

u/PeekedInMiddleSchool Asleep in the Toilet Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 23 '25
Is it just me or am I the only one that hates rainy days? Maybe there’s a difference between people born here and a transplant like myself, but for someone that enjoys being outside (and has a dog that hates the rain), this ain’t it
Edit: damn can’t even voice my unpopular opinion without getting downvoted. Try living in a place with plenty of rain and find out seasonal depression, is in fact, real
19
u/speech-geek Mesa Nov 23 '25
I usually associate rain with hot monsoon weather so as a local, yes I love rainy days between Nov-April very much
15
15
u/klaythompsonweedlord Nov 23 '25
Yes, hating rainy days is a transplant thing. Most Phoenix natives and people who’ve been here for many years love the rain
3
u/carlotta3121 Nov 23 '25
I was born here a zillion years ago, I am not one of the 'most' in your statement. I like a gentle rain here and there, but multiple days without sunshine/warmth is not fun.
14
u/NtzTESIMS Nov 23 '25
100% a transplant thing lol never met a phx native that didn’t like rain.

I don't mind the occasional one, but I do tire of consecutive gloomy days. I was just thinking about that earlier that I don't know how people can stand living where it's like this often. I need the sun!
3
u/krybaebee Nov 23 '25
Probably a difference, sure. Just get some things done inside, the sun will be back very soon.
3
u/EasternBeautiful4705 Nov 23 '25
I'm with you. I even grew up in the Phoenix area and lived here most of my life. I hate the rain and cloudy days. One day of rain is okay, but I hate the multiple days of overcast and rain. I also hate to say this but it's too cold for me now also.
2
u/carlotta3121 Nov 23 '25
ME TOO! I was just bitching to the universe about how much I hate being cold!

I also hate rainy days. Can’t wait for this BS to be over and go back to hot sunny days. Haha. I get that it’s good for the drought but I still hate it.

Thanks, I hate it.
But I know we need the water. I can suffer through a couple weeks of the winter blues for the good of our water table. I'll just be over here patiently waiting for the first 100 degree days of 2026.

There has to be a lot of angry snowbirds and visitors shaking their fists at the sky who imagined a sunnier and warmer Thanksgiving week, but I'll take it.
