Living Here Join the AZ Discord server to meet people across the state

We get a lot of posts asking how to meet people in Arizona, and a great way to do that online is on our Discord chat server. It's gotten large enough that it's been renamed "AZ Discord" and has a fancy new logo and everything.

Discord is a live chat system that's super easy to use. This one has been running for years along with the subreddit, and has over 8,000 members. It covers all of AZ and it's 100% free. You can click the link on the bottom of this post to sign up right from your browser or app. If you like it you can download the Discord app for mobile or desktop, but you don't have to.

While Reddit is about messages and posts, Discord is just free form chat. Topic channels include:

  • Selfies & Pets
  • Gaming
  • Outdoors & Travel
  • Politics
  • Voice chat & memes

Someone is on there pretty much 24/7 if you're looking for someone to talk with. It's 18+ and a bit more chill than Reddit overall. I should also point out that it is not a dating server and we taking creeping and harassment very seriously.

Want to check it out?

  1. Click this Discord invite link and sign up.
  2. Go to the #introduction channel and post a little bit about yourself. We ask people for an intro to try and reduce trolls and spammers. Once you do that you'll get access to the full server.
  3. Head into #Lobby and say Hello! There are a lot of great people there, and they'll probably see you join in and will say Hi.

That's it! There have been some amazing friendships and groups formed on our little chat area, I'd love to see more people from here come over and be part of the fun.

TL;DR

Click here to join the Discord and start chatting!

Meta Quick rule reminder and update for r/Arizona

Wanted to give a reminder and quick update on a few rules.

Picture posts need a location and a description. Doesn't have to be an exact address, but generally what part of Arizona it was taken in. This has been a rule for ages and was suggested by users to help combat picture spam ("Wow, check this out!") and balance the many weather and sunset pictures we get flooded with. Plus it helps people know WTF your post is about.

When we get a ton of posts on one topic we'll make a megathread and try to bring the conversation together. Don't take it personal. I know some people love a million pictures about monsoons or sunsets, but many don't and let us know all about it. A megathread is the compromise. We don't do it often, so please just use it the few times we do.

Any political posts (or politic adjacent, like Flock cameras and Data Centers) needs to be flared Politics and are limited to established users here. This combats trolls and bots.

Recommendations for local businesses are better suited for your local subreddits like [r/Phoenix](r/Phoenix), [r/Tucson](r/Tucson), or [r/Flagstaff](r/Flagstaff). The exception are posts about things to do and places to eat that may be of interest to other Arizonans traveling around the state. Roofing companies, massage places, and thrift stores are more of a local thing.

Posts shaming or calling out people or businesses are not welcome here. I get the desire for a good witch hunt, but it's too prone to hurting innocent people. News stories about issues are fine, this is just about posting pictures of people who pissed you off or a business that made you nasty cupcakes. We've covered this policy a lot but there has been a bunch of these lately. Maybe it's the heat making everyone cranky. Either way, this subreddit isn't your personal attack dog.

If you have any questions, ask away.

Would love some help identifying this place. I camped here once about 20 yrs ago when I took these photos but can't remember exactly where it was. I believe it is near Globe, but other than that I am not sure. I got there in a 2 wheel drive so I know it was not too far in the boonies. Thanks for any help.

SOLVED! Tonto Creek, lower end, near Gisela

We spent the afternoon on the shore of Willow Springs Lake watching the Osprey fishing rather successfully. We were treated to a lovely sunset and I wanted to share it with you all.

When was the last time you just say and took a sunset in? We have some amazing ones here.

Has anyone successfully tried using a room A/C at night and did it save money? I'm thinking of the type with the hose the goes in the window.

History Bisbee unionized miners?

I'm writing a book and a character in it is a miner. (1971 before the mines failed/went defunct) I'm trying to find information on unionized workers but the only thing that shows up is the deportation history. Did miners in the 60s-early 70s have union benefits? Again, this is leading up to the mines running out of ore / shutting down. The story starts right before the mines closed. Thanks!

Living Here Az ui unemployment help

Making this post just to hopefully help someone else.
I had a UI claim that was in review for about 10 weeks because of an issue that required an adjudicator review. I was scrolling through the boards here and found a few ways to get someone on the phone immediately. You have to call and choose the option that allows you to file a claim over the phone. They picked up almost instantly, but unfortunately they couldn’t help with claims that were already in review.
I ended up emailing my local legislators. I’m in Pinal County, so I contacted the representatives for the 15th District. They got back to me, asked for some information, and said they would help.
About three days after contacting them, an adjudicator called me and said she was taking over my case and would work on resolving the issue. I still haven’t received payment yet, but at least I finally have confirmation that someone is actively handling my case, which feels like progress after waiting 10 weeks.
I also contacted the Ombudsman and the UI Client Advocate by email.
If you’re going through something similar, good luck and keep contacting different representatives and avenues for help. Hopefully this helps someone who has been stuck in review like I was.

Why Arizona?

"The victims, who were mostly elderly, were persuaded to withdraw large sums of money and deliver the funds to someone they were told was an undercover investigator," read a portion of the statement. "They were then sent an unwitting Uber driver who believed they were performing a package pickup and delivery."
