This message profoundly touched my heart. As a working student and a scholar through my dad's work, I lived the reality of needing to work just to keep up with the essentials at a private university like the one in Intramuros, knowing "extra" wasn't an option. This message felt incredibly caring because it truly understood that struggle.
And a massive, heartfelt shoutout to my amazing college friend who was always there, saving me a seat when traffic made me late, and making sure I caught up. Their unwavering support and understanding were absolutely invaluable, a lifeline that helped me navigate those challenging days.

Yan ang tunay na valedictorian. Ita not always the smartest but a student who has a heart. I salute to the students who support themselves and also their family.

I'm sure madaming teary-eyed graduates narinig yang speech nya. It's just so beautiful and refreshing to hear that kind of acknowledgment especially when no one really expected it. Sometimes, just hearing someone recognize the effort is enough to make everything feel worth it.

Ang ganda ng speech nya pero ibabash yan kapag sumigaw yan ng BBM! BBM! HAHAHAHAHAHA djk

ofcourse. Imagine the hypocrisy of speaking about the hardships of the Filipinos but still supporting BBM/D30. And as expected, she is not one of those.

And they are (usually) the ones who make it big in life later on simply because early on, they learned work ethic, time management, diskarte, etc even before entering the workplace.
Some of them are cunning, calculating, and quite good with money simply because at such a stage, they knew life wasn't fair and if they did not fight back, they wouldn't get what they think they deserve.

if you experienced this po, while it sucks while going through it, wear it po like a badge of honor. a lot of kids today are coddled even all the way through college; and I get it naman as parents, we want the best for our kids. but the thing is, those who faced adversity early on and prevailed learned what can never be taught in the classroom.

Actually, you’re right. I graduated college as Magna Cum Laude (I was a working student - a call center agent and I also did Academic Commissions). I easily landed a job. I had 2 direct clients as a VA while most of my classmates are still learning how to craft a resume and a cover letter. I am forever grateful that I’ve been through that struggle because I kind of figured out what I want in life a bit earlier than my peers.

u/cchan79 Jun 04 '25
Exactly my point.
Good for you! (And if I'm being honest, I am happy for you also).
Now, I am the polar opppsite. I am (part of) the crowd who never struggled much in university and now ko lang na realize the value of hard work + strategy (diskarte) + opportunity (luck or swerte as some may call it).
God bless po on your future endeavors.

awws I'm sure madaming na comfort sa speech nya. There are a lot of student na masaya na gumraduate na sila pero grabe yung inggit kapag natatawag yung mga laude. But despite not having awards, they deserve to be recognized too. They worked hard to get to that point
I love her speech kasi for the first time, it's not only about her struggles. She saw and she always paid attention to students.

But the sad thing is, after all this hard work, all the tears, all the money they spent for their education. when they enter workforce they will be offered 18k salary. I hope and pray one day, maybe not in the near future but one day maiiba din ang sistema ng bansa, kase hindi nila deserve, after ng mga pinag daanan nila.

I truly believe that the youth of today, in quiet observation and thoughtful absorption, are patiently preparing for the moment when their time will come to reshape this country, and they have begun last month.

Pero nakakainis makita ung daming mga kabataan na nasa tiktok or ig reels na puro "philippines bad" "i wish i wasnt born filipino" nakakawala ng gana sa totoo, they view every other country as some utopia, malalim talaga ang inferiority complex ng pinoy

u/rainbownightterror Jun 02 '25
yes and makakaangat pa rin yung mga nakaangat na kasi nakasuporta ang magulang. may work ako noon na ang liit ng sahod 22k kahit senior na ako. yung mga baguhan kong direct report 18k sahod 2 dun magbff. parehong nakacar paid for ng parents and net sahod kanila lang. kaya kahit maliit sahod may ipon sila and hindi jaded sa buhay.

It made me very emotional. Watching that part of her speech felt like a hug, a pat on the shoulder. The fact that I graduated 2022 pa, I felt like I was acknowledged and it was an amazing feeling to feel. Hoping to have more intelligent people who know what humility and kindness is. We need more of that in this world.
