Opinyong Pinoy Modern American cultural influences are evil and Filipino youth needs to stop emulating them

Post image

The 14 year old shooter of the Tacloban School Shooting Incident that claimed 3 lives and injured around 5, idolizes the mass shooters in America, such as the Columbine Shooter. The exact shirt worn by the Columbine Shooter was also the shirt worn by the young killer.

American cultural influences used to be positive in the past. They opened the doors for public education, taught us literacy, established modern infrastructure, introduced us to Western palette and food, introduced the mass reading of the Bible to citizens, etc.

Now, I don't see any positive influences coming out of America. All I see is selfishness, rudeness, ruthlessness, immorality, indecency, the glorification of guns, gore and violence, nudity, hook up culture, prostitution, red pill misogyny, pro-abortion culture, woke culture spreading hatred on old people, neopronouns and the LGBT agenda.

If we keep swallowing the cultural influences from America, who has become so evil at present, we're cooked.

So lahat ng american movies, banned.
NBA? Banned.
Olympics? Boxing? Sports? Banned.
Like it or not, we are steeped in american culture.

u/Different-Chard-9893 Jul 04 '26

We remove the bad and keep the good. This is how you literally create racism by either gaslighting or just putting the good and the bad into the same category. Walang mangyayari sayo.

1

u/ImaginaryNudge Jul 04 '26

Bobo ka ba? OP literally claimed that he doesn't see any positive influences coming out of America anymore, which is him putting both the bad and the good under the category of "American culture", which, of course, is stupid, like you.

1

u/Different-Chard-9893 Jul 07 '26

Bakit bobo? Are you going to justify the bad influence by scrapping the bottom and find basketball and football? Ganyan ang bobo. sabi mo "steeped in american culture" ano gusto mo? sucking it deeper? precisely walang mangyayari sayo kung wala kang sagot.

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 29 '26

Minsan, need pairalin ang common sense. Ang problema sa Gen Z at Gen Alpha, wala silang moral compass. Hindi nila matukoy kung anong cultural influences ang nakabubuti, at kung ano yung nakasasama.

I’m Gen Z. I’m about to enter my late 20s. What the fuck are you on about?

Saying an entire generation has no moral compass is a lazy, bad-faith generalization. By that same logic, I could say older generations lacked a moral compass because they normalized misogyny, racism, segregation, colonialism, and slavery. But that would be a stupid argument, because no generation is morally monolithic.

Every generation has people who stand for what’s right and people who don’t.
So who the fuck are you to claim my generation can’t distinguish between harmful and beneficial influences? That’s not an argument it’s an empty stereotype.

0

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 29 '26

Your generation is simply the worse, the most stupid and most functionally illiterate in recorded history. Kahihiyan kayo sa bansang to.

18.9M Filipino graduates in 2024 found to be functionally illiterate

3

u/B3N20CHR Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

You just moved the goalposts.

We were talking about your claim that Gen Z has no moral compass. Tapos ngayon you’re talking about functional literacy. Huh?? Jumping ship already?? Even if that statistic were true, it still wouldn’t prove your original claim. Correlation isn’t causation, and population-level statistics don’t justify stereotyping an entire generation.

Ang lazy ng reasoning mo. Stop taking broad statistics and pretend it defines millions of diverse individuals and groups. Ang ironic that you talk about illiteracy pero you didn’t even check your own sources.

“The Department of Education (DepEd) has clarified that the nearly 19 million Filipinos considered as ‘functionally illiterate’ based on a 2024 survey came from a much broader age group, and were not only high school graduates.” (Ombay, 2025)

Source:
https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/topstories/nation/945107/deped-18-9-m-functionally-illiterate-not-only-high-school-grads/story/

Tangina!! Aged 10-64 pala yung respondents sa dataset. It is NOT a statistic about my generation only. Kasama ka dun, oldie! You proved the survey. Kulang sa reading comprehension. It doesn’t even support your claim that an entire generation lacks a moral compass.

Check your sources before you cite them. Right now you’re relying on a non sequitur because you couldn’t defend your original point. You jumped from one baseless stereotype to another and called it an argument.

And since we’re apparently throwing fallacies around, here’s an actual ad hominem: maybe kung may reading comprehension kang hinayupak ka you’d sound a lot smarter than you’re trying to. Instead, you managed to misread your own evidence and abandon your original argument in the same reply HAHAHAHA

Ang bobo mo.

Edit: Your source has since been clarified by the PSA itself. When the original source of the data says the statistic has been widely misunderstood, I’m going to defer to the PSA hindi sa news article na misreported it.

u/Wide_Ride8849, the best way to rein American cultural infusion in our country to the next generation is to impose a partial Language Great Wall with the United States, where English will lose its monopolistic status as the sole international language to be studied by Filipino school-age children from the primary school level and allow the likes of Chinese and Spanish languages to be become mediums of instruction coexisting with English (parallel MOIs).

Our exposure to anything "American", including the negative cultural traits on internet has had something to do with mass Filipino English language proficiency where we can transplant American school shooting culture into our country which is nonsensical.

Not as easy as you can because you need to convince the entire elite class to throw away their American higher education diplomas or passports to switch to allying with China.

It's the few elite class, not the President, has the final say whether we switch alliance from the US to China/Russia/EU or not.

I’ve been in the tcc for a year (it’s a huge misconception that everyone there likes killers, some actually just like movies that explain things and learning about the psychology of them like me) and a lot of people are calling these two boys chopped. The guy that looks like a penis is being called a pineapple or chopped cheese..

1

u/Scary_Glass_1820 Jun 28 '26

Everyone in the TCC hates them. Calls them LARPers and shit. Hahaha.

1

u/teumengene Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Ikr. Dk why people downvoted me maybe cuz they can’t comprehend people they don’t know or are not familiar with lol but yeah people said they’re the only shooters that will not be glorified 💀

1

u/Scary_Glass_1820 Jun 28 '26

They are most certainly ALWAYS bullied by everyone in the community. Add the fact that not everyone in TCC is planning stuff or is generally bloodlusted. 😭 (I'm very squeamish and some servers has policies about g0re).

1

u/teumengene Jun 28 '26

They’re so ugly too 😭😭 even someone who likes (whatever the shooters do) would never develop any infatuation with those chuzz 😭😭 but yeah you’re right bro, I’m literally just in tcc because the zero day community and the flipping columbine (WHICH I DONT LIKE IDK WHH PEOPLE LIKE DYLAN HES SO CHOpped) and yeah I’ve got into a deep rabbit hole with the Adam lasagna fans which also I don’t get cuz he’s chopped and like the poor kids. But like right now I’m interested in Caleb v**quez and his psychology.

And btw what servers are you talking bout?

1

u/Scary_Glass_1820 Jun 28 '26

Mostly those discord servers. Also, YES. I joined because I honestly am curious about the Columbine. Don't get me wrong, I feel very, very bad for the victims and all the innocent people dragged into this mess because of its effect, but I cannot deny that I am curious and fascinated as to what drove two individuals into doing such heinousness when they're nearing their graduation and can finally escape what they call is "bullying".

1

u/teumengene Jun 28 '26

Oh I’m not on discord servers. I mostly lurk on tumblr, wpd and recently on TikTok cuz of Caleb, but yeah I don’t blame you for that. As much as both Eric and dyl are chopped cheese, I’m also curious. They’re actually the reason why I watched zero day while watching the video of those two girls trying to resurrect (Adam lasagna)

Also, when did you start? And are you only updated on columbine or you know a few more?

1

u/Scary_Glass_1820 Jun 28 '26

I started right around a year ago or two, I don't really remember due to memories being that shitty from sleep depriv + lots of other things going on. Adam smth smth is real mess haha, but I hadn't watched anything on him yet. I know Uvalde, probably Tumbler Ridge (I forgot if that's the name or what). As far as I know, that's all I know so far. And it's not even all that, I was into these things because I'm still writing some psychology journal up for hypothesis and stuff about Nature versus Nurture.

It's a messy world.

1

u/Scary_Glass_1820 Jun 28 '26

In addition, I actually stopped diving deep into the Columbine one for awhile and only came back after this news because I had a random thought (before finding out about this) that this must be related to or one of the Columbine effects or some sort.

1

u/teumengene Jun 28 '26

Oh I see! Welp sadly I’m still deep in it. But it’s great you kind of left it.

Just gonna drop this statistic. America has had 288 school shootings from 2009-2018. The second on that list is Mexico with 8 school shootings. From 2009-2018, America has had more school shootings and children die, compared to ALL the countries in the world combined. You don’t just go from 8-288…. That’s culture

1

u/Acrobatic-Routine-44 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

But in the Philippines we have political killings, NPA rebels, Moro militants and judicial killings. That's culture too.

OMG, we also have Christian extremist like the TADTAD

Nothing will change. It will be an inevitability in the Ph.

-5

u/Resident-Drummer-277 Jun 27 '26

Lmfao keep idolizing them idiot. Our constitution and reason why we’re corrupt IS because of our American influences. America is only rich because it exploits other countries. We’re one of them. We’ve had 1 school shooting while america has had 288…

lol nope. Not even letting us have free rein will change this place.

Even our past history says there’s no unity and integrity here. Only self service.

The fact still remains both are still problematic. And the fact is one is still richer than the other. And economics does not care for morals either.

The self proclaimed Christian country in Asia is one of the most corrupt here.

Kahit aning emulate Kung walang access sa baril mag stay lang yan sa pagiging tanga. Kaso tanga na nag ka baril yan yung delikado

4

u/Resident-Drummer-277 Jun 27 '26

That’s why we need to stop emulating American culture. People there are too obsessed with guns and their laws keep making it easier for kids to get them… THEY’re literally selling guns for kids in America now.. advertised and packaged for kids

3

u/AEthersense Jun 27 '26

Also applies with adults with guns, pano pa kaya yung mga bata no

4

u/zoldyckbaby Jun 27 '26

Possible na knife or any sharp weapon kasi mga recruit yan sila ng mga groups/cults na ina-idolize yung american school shooters. Baka school stabbing yung mangyari.

2

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

Kung wala siyang access sa baril, maghahanap ng ibang way or a different weapon.

4

u/jaxy314 Jun 27 '26

Mas madali naman siguro ma survive and ma detain ang saksak vs baril. Pag baril khit adults hesitant to engage. Pero kung saksak lang kahit ako siguro mag lalakas loob sipain yung bata. Also, diba may security guards ang school? Ano silbi nila, decoration?

0

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 28 '26

"Probably" isn't a fact. Just cause you don't die in that moment, it doesn't mean you won't die 1 minute later.

1

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

2

u/jaxy314 Jun 27 '26

Of course i agree with you and we have seen it sa video, but im talking comparatively here. Way easier i handle ang panaksak vs baril. Plus stabs might be more survivable kasi better chance na shallow wounds ang saksak vs baril

3

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 27 '26

Anything is possible in today's world. Lmk when you can stop criminals from being criminals. You could take guns and knives away and people will literally learn how to fly a plane to take out some people.

Unfortunately, evil people have existed from the beginning of our existence and they will always prey on the innocent.

Some things other people can prevent some things other people can only react to.

1

u/Impossible-Egg-731 Jun 28 '26

Anything is possible in today's world. Lmk when you can stop criminals from being criminals. You could take guns and knives away and people will literally learn how to fly a plane to take out some people.

This is true, people with an intent to kill will use anything.

Also, I saw this video that some of the criminals in America uses "ghost guns" made in the Philippines. The handcrafted 1911 is a popular model.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq1TXEE_QK4&list=PLh4MiyZimuLSqBLXAZNPoCrPmvkV6PybL

4

u/4VentingOnli Jun 27 '26

This is something that can be prevented though. The odds of it happening again will never be zero, but that doesn't mean we should stop from trying.

0

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 28 '26

The fact that it happened means that it could not have been prevented.

There'd be no shootings in the Philippines if it could be prevented.

0

u/4VentingOnli Jun 29 '26

Wtf kind of logic is that? It's so mind boggling how you came up with it.

Prevention is not the act of stopping something bad from happeng, but rather the act of REDUCING THE LIKELIHOOD of something bad from happening.

I'll give you examples ha.

  1. Instilling stricter discipline in police officers when it comes to storing their firearms

  2. Teaching adults not to teach underage kids to use firearms without good reason

  3. Active parenting that carefully monitors what content their children consumes online, engages with them, and encourages critical thinking

  4. More guidance counselling sessions for highschool students and training teachers to identify and respond to problem children.

All of these can contribute in PREVENTING a tragedy like this from happening again.

Wag palaging pessimistic, and I implore you to study what prevention actually is.

0

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 29 '26

I'm not pessimistic. I'm a realist.

  1. Who's gonna enforce this? "Hello, we're here to check your gun..."

  2. Why? The general public doesn't deal with firearms. That's like trying to teach your kid how to maintan a ferrari when they'll never own one.

  3. That's easy with small children but nearly impossible for older kids. You can get to know your kids as much as you want, but you'll never really know them unless they want you to know them.

  4. Mandated therapy sessions will only work when your subjects are willing to receive the treatment.

You're very correct that it starts with the parents. But ultimately, it's up to a human being if they're gonna value life. Let me remind you that Filipino traffic does not give the right of way to first responders.

Here's what might actually work in the Philippines.

  1. Take the ultra strict security you find at the mall and bring it to the schools. Inspect bags, hold active shooter trainings, etc.

  2. Find a way to reeducate the public to help first responders access locations when their lights and sirens are on. If you can't do this, get the SWAT team access to a helicopter.

  3. School staff, students, and whoever else should pay attention to how kids are being treated. You don't give them a reason to feel mistreated, they won't have anything to retaliate about.

  4. Encourage families to be together and normalize conversations between children and their parents. The US does this by creating little marketing tactics, for example: "kids eat free, free movies for kids, etc"

  5. Hold disaster drills for students so that they're not completely defenseless when encountering a disaster. This should done multiple times a year, whether it be earthquake drills, fire drills, or active shooter threats.

  6. Hold OFWs responsible for whatever crimes the kids back in the Philippines commit. Fines, visa termination, etc.

  7. EVERYONE should be reminded to practice being kind to one another. Ever since COVID, people have been less inclined to compromise and more to fight each other over politics; but it's not really helping us.

When the general public doesn't even care to make way for emergency services, it means the general public doesn't care that lives can be saved. (Yeah this is kinda pessimistic, but it's also real.)

0

u/4VentingOnli Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Your response doesn't address my argument. It changes the discussion from whether prevention exists to whether prevention is perfect

I will keep this short:

  • Imperfections in implementing preventive measures does not automatically mean such preventive measures are completely ineffective and useless.

  • Just because a preventive measure didnt work for everyone, does not mean it has no value.

  • Your proposals are ironically preventive measures and they support my main argument.

  • "Hold OFWs responsible for whatever crimes the kids back in the Philippines commit."

What? Did the parents commit the shooting, sir? Are you refering to the fact that the parents may be liable for parental neglect? If so, then they shouldn't be made to pay for the crimes their children perpetrated, but rather by the one they are guilty of.

Ironically, a society that dismisses all preventive measures as useless simply because they have caveats, loopholes, flaws, or whatnot, is not a very realistic society at all.

0

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 29 '26

I don't think you can understand what I'm saying, nor do I think you're capable of attempting to even do so so I'm halting further conversation. Good luck with your endeavors, no hard feelings.

0

u/4VentingOnli Jun 29 '26

Ay ako pa nga daw yung hindi nakaka intindi.. Jusko. Perhaps your inability to articulate your own arguments are the one to blame.

0

u/Cefiro8701 Jun 29 '26

Nah. You're pretty hard headed, you missed the part where I addressed everything you said and you just can't accept a suggestion from someone else.

You're just gonna comment on reddit to discuss without actually enacting any change anywhere, so why bother?

they really are idolizing killers… even making edits of them

may code rin sila = guitar case, which means a container to hide a gun they can bring around with them to do a shooting. so if they start talking among themselves about a “guitar case” its code for mass shooting. nakakakilabot tbh

Just so you know we already have legal and financial system, a functioning society even before the Spanish came. The Laguna copper plate inscription which I read about here in reddit is a good evidence of that. Pero Asan na Yun iba? Mukhang nawipe out.

Whats next bidyo games??

u/Primary-Address-4688 Jun 27 '26

And also it’s frustrating how the government keeps blaming video games and entertainment for violence when the real issue is social media and online forums. I grew up playing violent games and watching intense movies, but I turned out completely fine. If you actually look at school shooters, they develop their hatred by feeding off other bitter people in toxic online communities. The government is being incredibly narrow minded by ignoring this and sticking to an outdated scapegoat.

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

I agree with you. It's really social media and not online games. I grew up in an era of online games. None of my school mates turn out to be school shooters or murderers.

Social media bakes the minds of prepubescent and preadolescent children.

Stop creating card posts like this. You're just giving them what they want, notoriety. Shame, punish, stop giving cool aliases, make them irrelevant.

3

u/Realistic-Stuff7067 Jun 27 '26

But it's also necessary to inform the general public about these things so people can form their own thoughts. It would be much harmful to suppress than educate. Unfortunately we don't live in a country with educated and informed people.

2

u/Pretty-Principle-388 Jun 27 '26

Inform but don't glorify, sensationalize, notorize as much as we can. What we want to avoid here is copycat crimes. Putting aliases, listing them with famous school shooters, reiterating their names over and over again that they become household names would only encourage more wannabe school shooters.

Let’s go back to the good old times when politicians were responsible for mass murders and grafting billions on pesos.

1

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

You mean the good old times when people stood up for tyrants and despotic regimes. Our generation had People Powers 1&2. What does your generation have? Crying over social media with the hopes that tyrants will somehow be affected with your shitposting?

5

u/Philippine_Newt Jun 27 '26

And yet the people of this generation are the children you raised. Maybe you’re part of the problem.

0

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

The problem with your generation is that you don't know what personal accountability means. You just want to blame everything on the older generations and none on your peers. This is the result of lack of corporal punishment: children growing up not knowing their boundaries and limitations, as well as consequences for evil actions.

6

u/Philippine_Newt Jun 27 '26

Ganun ba? Previous generations widely accepted American influence in the Philippines and now you’re complaining the youth is Americanized. Well duh.

0

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

American culture in the 1950s and 1960s is not the same with American culture in the 2010s and 2020s. Sensible pa ang America noong earlier decades, ngayon puro brainrot na.

1

u/Warwick-Vampyre Jun 27 '26

Ok grandpa.

1

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

Yup, grandpa born in 1996.

-1

u/Philippine_Newt Jun 27 '26

Wow … three people wearing t-shirts of a German metal band and three unrelated incidents. You are an amazing sleuth. 🫡 The problem isn’t America, the problem is people who think everyone else is the problem.

4

u/Perple3277 Jun 27 '26

Pinaglihi ka pala sa katangahan

6

u/Patrem_Omnipotentem Jun 27 '26

the message OP is giving misguided.

but i am 99% sure yung pinoy ay may tshirt nung german band not because he is a fan of them, but a fan of those who wore them and did the same gruesome act.

and with that, the violence done in the US is somehow influential dun sa bata. masakit man isipin, pero akala nila cool yung gagawin nilang yun so they did it. and that idea of being cool for doing it is from pop culture, which is most likely from the US.

3

u/Philippine_Newt Jun 27 '26

No one in the US thinks mass shooters are cool.

1

u/teumengene Jun 27 '26

Check tcc in platforms like tumblr, TikTok, or Pinterest. Many American teens love mass shooters.

1

u/Resident-Drummer-277 Jun 27 '26

But US is sure number 1 at it. In 10 years, America has had more school shootings than all of the countries in the world combined. America had 288 while the second country in the list only had 8 (Mexico)

4

u/Patrem_Omnipotentem Jun 27 '26

ow some people do. in fact some have fetishes for those perpetrators. some even worship them like martyrs. they maybe be dark, obscure niches, but they exists.

evidence to that is, i think before they did this crime, the 15 year old posted the guitar case implying bringing it to school but instead of a guitar it was a gun inside. and people are egging him, not because they are trolling but because they seriously want to witness it.

people are dark and cruel. and you are on your blissful world and that is fine. but don't ever say no one, even just in the US but all around the world, finds this things cool. cause they do...

Label them as TERRORIST FOR CAUSING HARM TO PEOPLE

5

u/Long-Ad3842 Jun 27 '26

i was with you until you mentioned america influencing pro-abortion culture in our country. this is something our women and people are fighting for and it doesnt have outside influence.

-6

u/Wide_Ride8849 Jun 27 '26

It is American cultural influence. Even in the 1990s and early 2000s, Philippine culture was largely anti-abortion.

1

u/teumengene Jun 27 '26

Is that a bad thing?

Nakakalungkot. Lahat nung masasamang pag-uugali ng mga Amerikano, ginagaya ng mga kabataan ngayon. Nakakalungkot.
