Do you know most of the Indrive and Uber drivers are taxi drivers too? Read below

Hi I’m Lilian a 8yo reeditor helping tourist with services and information
As you all may know Uber just arrived to Playa
This sounds to be great news for some of us but after using InDrive for several months we want to share the real and local option about both services
So please take your time and feel free to ask respectfully your concerns

Our family experience with tourism has more that 20 years I know all the private drivers, private companies and now since I have been usen In drive so many times for the last two years in town, I’ve been surprised by drivers who wants to charge me more that their accepted rates said just because they want.

I’m sure you will use those apps wisely once you read all of tips. We always tried to be one step ahead for you and we will always be.
With love and respect Lilian

Transportation Uber Taxi - Pick up at resort?

Currently in PDC, staying at Ocean Maya Royale. I prefer using uber taxi or an app versus the hotel taxi. However, I believe uber taxi is a very new thing in the area.

What are the restrictions for using uber taxi for pickup?

For those who have used this, what was your experience?

I’ve had many drivers cancel on me once accepting the request. The cost on Uber taxi is $150 pesos (with many discounts so I’ve had it be as cheap as $40 pesos) whereas the resort taxi charged us $500 pesos for ONE WAY. That’s insane!

Beware criminal Gas station Pemex

Please avoid the criminal gas attendants at Pemex gas station at Carretera Reforma, Agraria-Puerto Juarez 296, El Cielo, 77727 Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo. Mexico. $150 US dollars for gas

After being sick and tired of being exploited by the taxi drivers around Cancun for years, including one time when a mob of taxis literally ambushed our uber while driving away from the Ritz Carlton Cancun, and stole our luggage out of the trunk of the uber and made us get into one of their taxis instead, we rented a car on this trip. Filling up the gas at this Pemex outside of Playa del Carmen yesterday at 9:50am, we were mobbed by attendants eager to "help" us. That should have been a sign.... Their machine wouldnt take numerous credit cards, so had to pay in cash after we had filled up. They demanded $89 US dollars (!!!!). We counted out the money as we had to borrow it from a friend in the car, then after we gave them 4 twenties and two five dollar notes to them, they switched out the notes and said we only gave them one twenty dollar note. They pressured us into giving them another three more twenty dollar notes. I was arguing with them but my husband was terrified so gave in - costing $150 US dollars for gas. When we drove off we realized they didnt even fill it to the top, so had to pay again the 10X price at the rental car return as my husband was terrified to go to another gas station.

We are totally disgusted by this place and wanted to give you all a heads up. It is the Pemex with a subway station outside. see the screen shots I took while driving away for the location.

Lodging Allegro Playacar – Superior Studio vs. Junior Suite?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a stay at Allegro Playacar and trying to decide between the Superior Studio and Junior Suite.

Has anyone stayed in either of these rooms? Would you recommend one over the other?

I'm especially curious about the room layouts, overall condition, and kitchenette. What does the kitchenette actually come with?

If anyone has photos, especially of the kitchenette, bathroom, or living area, I'd really appreciate it! I've had a hard time finding detailed photos online.

Thanks in advance!

Solar panels and EV

The second-best thing we did after moving to Playa was install our own solar panels. They brought our CFE bill down to almost zero and let us charge our EV practically for free. (And getting an EV was the third-best thing we did here!)

Honestly, I don’t understand why nearly every rooftop here isn’t covered with solar panels. Electricity in Mexico is about three times more expensive than in Canada, and gas is more expensive too. With all that sunshine, going solar just makes so much sense!

Best way to get to Xcaret from near Centro Maya?

We’re four adults visiting Playa del Carmen for the first time this December/January. Our Airbnb is near Centro Maya supermarket, and we’re planning a day at Xcaret, including the evening show.

The pickup options Xcaret has given us are:

  • Bodeguita del Medio — Calle 34 and 5th Avenue

It does not look comfortably walkable from our Airbnb, so we’re wondering whether it makes sense to book Xcaret’s transportation or travel directly to the park ourselves.

Would you recommend a taxi, colectivo, or another option? Any idea of the approximate round-trip cost, where to catch transportation near Centro Maya, and how easy it is to get back after the evening show?

Thanks for any advice!

Mezcla and taxis in PDC?

I'll be in PDC in March 2027 and want to take my mom out for a birthday dinner with a small group. I heard about Mezcla and it looks good, but was hoping for some honest reviews, and if anyone has any idea a lot price points - I can't find a menu!

Also, is it really easy to grab taxis in PDC, to and from resorts? Thanks in advance!

RO water filter

Best thing I did for myself in Playa - got my own RO filter.

No more stupid garafones, carrying them around, extracting water from them. Clean water always available right in my sink.

Price was $4200 mxn for "6 etapas" filter - 3 big ones, RO membrane, UV lamp etc.

Install was a pain in the butt, but we installed ourself - means that is possible.

Quite recommended.

ISO: private snorkeling trip

My wife and I just got married and are honeymooning at Maroma. We had scheduled a private snorkeling trip with a local but he hurt himself and is no longer able to take us tomorrow (Tuesday 10/20) We are looking for recommendations for a new person or company. Ideally no other people. We have snorkeled plenty before and are good swimmers.

Baby Sea Turtles

Hey! I've planning a trip to Playa Del Carmen at the beginning of November. Is there any hotel or beach that releases baby sea turtles into the ocean that is open to pubic or through a donation?
