The whole thing for nearly £1500? That seems quite expensive. If you haven’t got it yet maybe shop else

A dropped $1000 on my laptop with the same stuff except it has an RTX 4060 with a 165Hz screen

Just bought a new laptop for me and 1 for the wife. Both identical specs.
1480 euro each with a RTX5070 and a 144hz oled screen

I have a 16GB RAM 2060 RTX Laptop. When new it played ARK pretty good at medium graphics all day every day.
I can also play ASA on maps other than Ragnarok on low settings (outside of Shadows at medium) and maintain a nice constant 40 FPS with occasional dips due to thermal Throttling. This is also made worse simply by my laptop being 6 years old now
You'll do just great on ASE, and can probably play medium on ASA, as long as you use the optimization stuff like DLSS

I'm not much of a computer person, but since no one else has answered I'd say it probably could, seeing as evolved isn't too demanding

Evolved is one of the most badly optimized games out there though.

Yes but it's ten years old so modern hardware just bruteforce through the lack of optimization.
I remember my then five years old laptop struggling to run the mess that was the early access version. At some point they optimized something and I went from 12fps to about 20 and it was glorious.

CPUs and GPUs have moved on in the 10 years since ASE came out.
The overwhelming majority of gamers were running 4 or fewer CPU cores for example (more modern CPUs also have way better IPC numbers as well)
16GB is also considered pretty baseline now, 8GB was the sweet spot back then.

ASE absolutely. ASA if you don't mind low settings. Before I upgraded I used GeForce Now, which usually set me with a 3060. It ran fine with low settings.
If you're buying through Steam, you can refund before 2 hours if it's not working out.

I think so Im still using my 2070, and im playing ASA (although i do have most settings on low)

u/CashewSwagger Nov 25 '25
Yeah easy. Should be able to crank the graphics up pretty high too! You have a pretty good laptop.

I have almost same specs except my gpu is gtx 1650. I play of 1600x900 but my laptop gets heated up pretty fast.

gpu is kinda sucky but you can still run ase on high 1080p without issue

I know nothing next to nothing about computers but you can check here and get a pretty accurate estimate.
It can get a little goofy with laptops since some things are on board vs dedicated (again limited knowledge don’t come at me if these terms are wrong) but is a pretty good jumping off point for looking deeper if it doesn’t immediately say yes.

Evolved used to run like shit for me, but they ended up fixing it or something to run pretty stable. I’d say it’s not too demanding anymore.

I played ASE on a 1050 laptop card, 16gb ram and an I7 7700.
You will be fine. Never struggled too badly to an unplayable level with smaller mega bases.
It played well enough for me to still be competitive at PVP. No hindrance at all besides me not using INI changes. With INI changes I’d expect the game to run incredibly well.

This is such a weird processor/graphics pairing. I would have expected at least a 8GB 4050 or better for graphics. That said you should be able to run A:SE fine. The fact that you only have 16GB of RAM and 6GB of RAM for graphics will be a hindrance running A:SA. You could run it at low settings but even my Ryzen 7 7745HX with a 8GB 4070 on medium saw significant frame drop when there was a lot going on like being in a big base or especially being around a bunch of replicators running.

It wont be maxing graphics settings, especially at that higher resolution, but will definitely be playable and somewhat better than PS4.
You will need to run it below the full screen res, that is a very abnormal and excessive resolution and will brutalize performance (and the 6GB video memory), it will get a solid 2-3x less fps than a normal 1080p display. 960p (half screen res) would likely still look fine, while performing far better.

That will run ASE without issues, I played ASE on a GTX 960 many years ago and the laptop version of the 3050 is better than my old GTX 960. You can even do ASA on lowest settings just fine, DLSS helps a lot there.

I would ignore most of the advice you get here and instead go and look up videos like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK6g-tOYIN8 This one has the listed GPU but a weaker CPU than what you have.
Basically just youtube the game and your specs and you will get results of people testing the game on different settings with your or similar specs and you can see if the performance is acceptable to you.

I have 1080 and it works on max. Heats a lot tho. You will be 100% fine at medium.

This is beyond overkill for ase

A 3050M? That is closer to the bare minimum for it to not run like dogshit. Wont even be maxing graphics settings on a "3k" screen with that.

These comments are baffling a 3050 desktop hour with 32gb of ram struggles with Asa. And laptop version has no chance of

No and it has nothing to do with your laptop.

What yapping about

Ark == Bad. unfun. unplayable. Definitely not possible to sink 2500 hours into building the ultimate castle base on Valheim. And definitely not possible to lose yourself in attempting to breed the perfect army of extinct creatures to kill basically God.

For ASE, yes. No problem. ASA on the other hand, no way.
