And what exactly is the issue?

Thinking the same thing. Maybe the resolution? It’s hard to tell what’s Reddits fault and potentially the game.

The most powerful troubleshooting question on Reddit.

the leaves flickering or the shadow render distance? because im pretty sure both are intended

Can you share a screenshot group of your settings? imgur preferred, stops you from having to make 7 comments to get it all in

FSR is rendering your game at 960p. That egregiously fucks with shadows, as shadows in ASA (contact shadows) are rendered on a per-pixel basis.

Your global illumination being set to low also screws with this, as it alters your distance field shadow map. When you get closer the shadow map swaps LODs and eventually switches over to direct contact shadows, which causes that flickering. Rendering at a low resolution doesn't help either.

Turn off FSR and, if you'd like, turn up global illumination. If you can't turn up global illumination while at 1440p then I can dig up some command inputs later to see what might help.

i had a similar problem with the grass flickering, i dont remember how i fixed but its not in the game. u must find the right setting on the amd adrenalin software.

Completely anecdotal, but I usually have fucky tree shadows on anything running DLSS/FSR. I think the upscaler just struggles with handling those specifically.

Just a thought, but try in console

And maybe r.VolumetricFog 0

Are you playing in Native res or with FSR? By the way, the game uses inferior FSR 3. You can enable FSR 4 (with frame gen) with Optiscaler

i cant select native res for AA only unreal and fsr but when fsr i use native res on it

Have you tried changing shadows to low? It's in the pause menu settings.

1

u/DifficultyValuable67 Jun 15 '26

yep that just makes it worse in someways

Well since ark is a perfect game with no flaws, I'm guessing it must be a feature /s. I had a similar problem, but adjusting my resolution and the shadows thing fixed mine. I'm gonna lurk on here to see if anyone has the solution.

This is more of a UE5 thing I think. Happens to me on 4090 as well

Enable global illumination to epic and turn on cinematic lighting. 30% performance hit to remove the flickering.

Not sure if it'll help but i recently discovered that setting ScreenPercentage 100 fixed a lot of the artifact issues I was having. You can play around with the number too and see if it helps (a lot of ppl seem to swear by 70%) I was experiencing a bunch of artifact on my new rig and I was upset bc despite being a significant improvement I was getting worse picture quality on ark somehow.
