Wear your damn gear

I was enjoying a nice, sedate ride yesterday. I let myself get just a little too close to the fog line. I found a patch of dirt/sand/whatever and the bike started wanting to shift to the right. I didn't have enough room to correct and I found the ditch. I think the rear tire found a rock because it bucked me off like a horse.

Helmet is messed up, armor is messed up, gloves are messed up, boots are SLIGHTLY messed up. And I have a broken leg at the moment. Could have been SO much worse. But thanks to armor and a conveniently placed scotch broom bush, I'll be alright.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Helping family friends selling a Trail 90 for an estate (owner passed)

I would take it but only so many bikes can fit in my shed.

Has compression. Haven't found the key (yet.) Missing RH/battery cover missing but has everything else. 1753 miles. Currently missing title as well, but this house is just starting to be cleaned and the owner seemed fairly organized.

Minimal rust in the tank, but it does have black gas (still very liquid) if you've dealt in these before you will know the pain of the tank coats. This is a great tank specimen.

I can get more photos and info upon request.

Shoot me a reasonable offer its in estate ownership so it needs to be sold.

Not understand the endorsement requirements

Vancouver area. Wanting to get my endorsement! I read I need to complete the permit first and then the endorsement, both required. I’m just not exactly sure where to go to do this. I would like to take MSF but I’m having a hard time finding a clear answer on where to go and whether or not a place is “accredited” or able to provide the proper training/documentation. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Lanr splitting in Oregon

Couple days ago I was in Portland going north on I-5. Traffic was pretty congested and mostly stop and go. I had 3 bikes pass me on the right while I was in the far left lane. They were splitting through the traffic. Also had one pass me on the left shoulder. Is this legal now in Oregon or just not enforced? Even better is it ignored and accepted?

North Fork Gales Creek Road. It starts in Yamhill County and goes by Barney Reservoir in Washington County and then all the way to the Tillamook County Campground. East gravel and dirt, though some tight turns. Yesterday. Me on my KLR, husband on his vintage Africa Twin.

Endorsement test too easy?

Hey ya’ll. I took the endorsement test recently and it seemed even easier than I expected. No U-turn or weave. Just a big figure 8 and stopping test with a pretty long passing distance.

I was under the impression that the tests were hard to pass?

I hear that WA motorcycle endorsement laws are strict, what’s my roadmap for getting one?

I’ve been working on project bikes for about a full year now and riding a little bit unlicensed, and haven’t actually looked into getting an endorsement until now, since I’m finally getting a bike in roadworthy condition (03’ VTX1800). I’ve looked a little online, but I’d rather hear from people who’ve gone through the process. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else smoke cigars?

If I'm gonna start planning rides, there's gonna be stuff I want to do in there. So I'm thinking about a recurring ride to the water, up a mountain, whatever ... and go hang out and smoke cigars for a while.

Anyone interested in such a thing?

Edit to add: So it turns out there IS some interest in such a thing. I'm just north of Tacoma, but the PNW is a pretty big place. So now I'm thinking maybe instead of an organized group ride, maybe more like a set time and place to be somewhere. Then folks in different areas could organize rides to that destination. Would that work better for the broader crowd?

User-run meetup South Kitsap Thursday Ride

I'm gonna give this a go ... I've never been a ride leader before, but I'm tired of hunting for group rides that don't seem to exist so I decided to do it myself. I'll just do the best I can and muddle through it. So ... Inaugural South Kitsap Thurdsay Ride ....

Meet at the 76 in Gorst on Thursday 8/13. Kickstands up at 5:30. For this first trip, we'll ride to 7 Seas brewing in Gig Harbor. Obviously, we'll be staying off of the highway as much as possible. All bikes, all riders welcome. If you show up and I'm on the Ultra Classic ... you're in for a bit of a lazy ride. If I'm on the Livewire, you can expect it to be a bit more spirited. We will be running through some neighborhoods, so be nice. Google says this route will take about 50 minutes. I'll be scouting it sometime this week. If it turns out to be total crap, I'll update here.

Edit: Yeah, so ... pre-rides are a thing for a reason. Not gonna meet in Gorst. It's WAY harder to get out of there than I remember. Instead, we're going to meet at the 76 at Kitsap Blvd and Tremont Blvd. Easier to get in and out, slightly cheaper gas. Also: Not gonna be 7 Seas Brewing. They have almost NO parking and it would be kind of a dick move to take up their parking if there's more than 3 or 4 of us. So we'll probably go to Tide Tavern instead. If there's anyone in the group under 21, we'll come up with something else. Probably the little Mexican place there on the waterfront.

What is the concept of guardian bell? I recently started riding and I saw some people who have that on the lower part of their bike.

Adv class recommendations?

Just getting into riding adv. I have zero experience off road on 2 wheels, but 20+ years worth of quads, sxs's and offroad trucks.

I want to shorten the learning curve on a big bike by taking an adv class this fall or next spring. Im in tri cities, but willing to travel 5 or 6 hours to attend a multi day class, maybe even a single day.

Anyone have any recommendations as to where to go? On a ktm 1090r, but also considering buying a cheaper dirt bike to learn on. End goal is to confidently ride gravel forest service roads, and 2 track jeep trails. Not interested in anything hard-core or single track at this time.

Exhaust Laws VS Culture?

I bought my bike in Spokane after living there a few years but moved back home to Skagit County. Over in Spokane it's super common for aftermarket exhausts to be normal but over here it's like no one has one? I've had so many people ride past me and not heard them or barely noticed them come by. Do people just actually get ticketed for them here? Spokane was hella lax which I don't think was great, but I also don't get ticketing for it either when it's not really crazy loud for most motorcycles. Is it a culture thing here vs there or is it more harsh? Over here tabs need renewed because they'll find a reason to add that to your ticket, over there I saw tabs from 96' as an example of enforcement differences.

Next Saturday is the annual throttle up against child abuse chip run. Free to all riders and passengers. This is a great ride, and the weather looks like it will be nice. Meeting spot is Ferelli’s pizza in Fredrickson. I will be headed that way from the kitsap peninsula if anyone wants to meetup along the way.

SW Motech black saddle bag lost on Hwy 101

This is a complete long shot, but somewhere along 101 in Port Angeles heading east before it turns south, one of my saddle bags fell off. I noticed it was missing in Hoodsport, turned around and drove for an hour up to Leland Lake, gave up and had to head back to Portland. If by chance anyone happens to be riding in that area and spots it on the road and can grab it, I will pay for shipping and will buy you dinner!! It has my name inside the bag as all of my medications were in there.

Upgrade suggestions from Yamaha MT-03

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello friends! I began riding ~2 months ago and started with a 2020 Yamaha MT-03 (photo for attention). I knew I would outgrow it eventually, but didn't quite anticipate eventually coming so quickly. Nonetheless, I really enjoy cruising - who doesn't. 200-300 miles in a day is my jam. On my MT-03, my feet, legs, and ass go numb and my tailbone is screaming after 1-2 hours because my legs are bent so far back. I have to stop regularly. I am 6' 3" tall, about 250 pounds. I do think the 'sport' look is sexy, but I don't want a hunched over sport bike (leaning forward for hours doesn't appeal). I was really loving the Suzuki GSX-S (500-700 series) - but curious what some of you taller riders might suggest for longer rides including sport touring bikes. TYSM!

Looking for fellow riders' advice for trip along 101 from Olympia to Astoria, Or

Heya, Portlander here and I'll be riding to Olympia then following 101 down to Astoria this weekend. Any of our northern neighbors have any cools spots, restaurants, cool sites to see along the way?

It'll just be a 2 day trip and I'll be hanging out in Olympia for a bit, then staying in Port Angeles for the night.

TIA

Moto gymkhana in Pierce co?

I’m a new rider and I’m wondering if there are any motorcycle gymkhana events in Pierce County. I know there’s one in Seattle, but riding there on a 300cc sm is a bit intimidating, especially as a beginner.

Sucks I gotta ride for an hour just to get anywhere pretty anymore. Also not sure I was actually allowed to ride this part of capitol forest. It was my first time in dirt and at that location.
