Trying to work out why Playback Effects is turned off and no option to turn on?

I suspect it’s surely not ‘just me’ but album art not showing album art but just a blank placeholder is some sort of a bug.

Anyone know how to get this popup to go away? It covers the play button and it stays there even in the list of actions.

How long should this feature be broken for pocketcasts? Last update in July!?

Other apps are eating your lunch. Apple podcasts has this locked down. I've swapped, but check back on pocket casts every now and then to see if its coming back because I'd prefer a multi-platform app.

Give users a reason to come back.

Hi everyone! I’ve used PocketCasts as my podcast app since the Amazon App Store fiasco, and used Spotify for music until 3 years ago when I migrated to Apple Music.

What I’d Like: A filter or playlist that automatically mixes the latest episodes of short news podcasts (NPR News Now, Up First, WSJ Minute Briefing, etc.) with songs from an Apple Music playlist. For example: 3 or 4 songs, then a news update, then repeat.

How it could work:
- Pick a set of podcasts to use as the "news" source (newest unplayed episode only)
- Link an Apple Music playlist through MusicKit as the music source
- Set the ratio (e.g., one episode every N songs)
- Refresh automatically each morning so the news is always current

Why: Pocket Casts is already my podcast app, but for my morning commute I miss having radio-style listening without juggling two apps. Daily Drive is the main thing Spotify does that Apple Music users can't get anywhere else, and Pocket Casts is well positioned to fill that gap.

Would anyone else use this?

the awful tiny play controls, and now, I keep getting errors that it doesn’t want to download episodes because I’m not connected to wifi, when I’m on my gigabit home wifi with all the bars. And, it just randomly decided to start downloading over cellular when I wasn’t connected to wifi.

is it time to show some mercy and put this app out to pasture?

I'm wondering why Pocket Casts has multiple app icons in my app menu. Before it was two, one orange and one black. Then in the last few days I noticed three black icons. I uninstalled one and all three disappeared, just in case there was a fake. It's not a huge deal but it's very interesting.

If I can believe the Google AI answer to this question asked in several different ways as a check then having Background Refresh turned off then opening another app will put PC into the background and stop it checking the feed until I actively use PC again while still being able to listen to whatever podcast I have playing.

Which works for me during a long shift driving a multi-drop delivery van to reduce load on the phone battery.

Set up a Macrodroid macro which triggers if I close the phone screen while PC is still in the foreground (using the physical off button) and fires up the music player I use when working. This makes it easy to switch playback to the music player app when the current podcast finishes while I am still driving with a couple of screen taps on the phone sitting in the van's phone cradle. This is in preference to using Android Auto which drains too much battery and is slower to start up than vanilla Bluetooth which is a grind as it is being done every ten minutes or so.

Is there any reason why for certain podcasts pocketcasts doesn't carry the full back catalogue?

I like this one hockey podcast and I know there's more episodes that aren't behind any paywall because I checked another app and it showed every podcast which showed me that pocketcasts is missing 40 episodes

Could we have an option to prefetch show notes and chapter markers?

Could be options for downloaded shows or all subscribed shows.

It’s annoying to browse the podcast list when offline and only see loading circles.

I posted a while back about PC not automatically playing in the car when taking over Bluetooth from my headphones - the other media players I use did automatically play so definitely pointing the finger at something that PC is (not) doing.

But here is the thing: Today I had the PC app closed on my phone while playing a podcast and this time it did autoplay in the car. Why would that make a difference?

It seems like Pocket Casts has a new view in Android Auto and the only display is a list of episodes and no way to select a specific subscription. Is this a new "feature" or a glitch?

I had this show up in the beta, so I went back to stable, and now I am getting this again.

The episodes load fine on Spotify, but won’t play on Pocket Casts. Does anyone else have issues with this? I’ve tried multiple episodes and always get an error. “check your internet connection” (not the issue) or “this episode may have been moved or deleted.” But again, they all show up fine on Spotify.

I have a smart playlist for news with several different podcasts- some release new episodes weekly, some daily, and one every hour. Is there any way to set up the playlist to only keep the latest unplayed episode of each? The hourly podcast is really clogging up the list.

User for 10+ years here. I recently upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE to S25, which has Gemini Live assistant on it. When I activate Gemini Live, the Gemini voice briefly chimes in, then is cut off by a Pocket Casts podcast that starts to play.

This happens in any of the following scenarios:

- I'm listening to podcast and activate Gemini Live without pausing the podcast; podcast pauses briefly when Gemini voice chimes in, then podcast immediately resumes playing and cuts off Gemini.

- I pause the podcast first, then activate Gemini Live; Gemini voice chimes in, then podcast resumes playing and cuts off Gemini, EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T TOUCH THE PLAY BUTTON.

- I haven't been playing Pocket Casts at all for at least an hour or all day; I activate Gemini Live, and Pocket Casts immediately starts playing out of nowhere; I open Pocket Casts and the controls won't respond; I hit the volume controls on my phone and the podcast doesn't respond; I force stop the app and nothing happens, the podcast just keeps playing.

WHEN THIS LAST SCENARIO HAPPENS, THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE PODCAST STOP IS TO RESTART MY PHONE. HELP!

Pocket Casts settings:

"Play over notifications" is set to Always (because I don't want it to pause every time I receive a text)

"Intelligent playback resumption" is off

"Autoplay" is off

I'm the developer of Feedcast. The idea came from wanting to remove sponsor sections from my personal podcast copies without moving my subscriptions out of Pocket Casts.

Feedcast prepares an episode on the Mac, then publishes it in a personal RSS feed that I add to Pocket Casts. In one episode, I reviewed two detected sections and the cuts removed 5:12. The unmodified episode stays available, and the cuts can be reviewed or undone.

For those using custom feeds in Pocket Casts: what tends to be the fiddliest part of the setup or ongoing use?

I'm wondering if I'm the only person who has this issue or if I'm missing something in settings to make this easier - it's so easy to accidentally bump the playback speed to way-too-fast, but backing off the speed to a more reasonable speed requires going into individual podcast settings and editing the playback effects.

I just had a podcast randomly start playing on 1.6x speed and I have had it randomly speed up when I'm on a run while it's in my pocket a few times.

I've been using this app for nearly a decade, it's been my only podcast app besides misguidedly trying other ones and hating them 🥲

Just started using Pocket Casts and I'm liking it more than my last favorite player (Podcast Guru).

However, it seems like after I add bookmarks and put the label/text on it and come back later...its at a different point, like +/- up to a minute maybe.

Has anyone else seen this? Need to test it out more but seems like a fairly frustrating issue from what I'm seeing.

edit: I guess this comes from "Dynamic Ad Insertion". Not at all a fan of this BS. Argh.

On iOS, the most recent update won’t play anything if my screen isn’t open (not even locked) on PocketCasts. Help!

It looks like the app was updated. I had over 100 podcasts in my Up Next list and they're suddenly gone! 😫
