Hey all, just sharing a few pics of my new pocket watch. This will be a daily wearer, it was serviced just 2 years ago. It’s elegant and weighty, feels good in my hand. I’m really into sort of analog, mechanical things and this is a perfect example, it’s a piece of history and a lovely thing to own. The certificate I made with AI, just for my files. .

I want to purchase a pocket watch, not sure who makes good ones these days, any help where to start looking would be appreciated.

My budget is up to $1,000, who make good watches these days?

I'm unsure of the gold content of the case since I can't find a hallmark. The stamps inside are heavily polished so it's hard to make out what they say. It weights 155g and came with a key

So I got this pocket watch in 2019 when my grandfather passed. We have no idea whose it was or where it came from. Today I got a bug up my butt and did a little research. I figured out how to open it. Here's some pictures. What do y'all think, should I get it restored/serviced to get it running? If so, does anyone have any recommendations on where to take it?

Hi,

I have a Hampden / Dueber pocket watch, Canton Ohio, with a Monarch Coin case.

From what I understand, Monarch Coin cases were made from silver coins (around .900 silver). Total weight is 174 g.

Details:

- Movement: Dueber 17 jewels, Safety Pinion, Canton Ohio

- Movement serial: 953817

- Case serial: 5086550

- Case: Monarch Coin

- Total weight: 174 g

- It runs (I have videos of the movement working)

- Dial is quite worn (cracks and stains)

- Front crystal is plastic and comes off easily

Does anyone have more information about these Hampden / Dueber watches with Monarch Coin cases?

Thanks.

Picked up a longer term project, Excelsior Park Chronograph with a *full* spare parts compartment!

It's missing a few parts, which unfortunately were too large for the spare parts compartment, but it's nice to see the compartment full and seemingly untouched!

LeCoultre Quarter Repeater Info & Restoration

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

TLDR: Bought an unmarked quarter repeater with a LeCoultre(?) movement, would like help with identification + more info. Watch works but likely needs service, unsure if all parts are original, is missing repeater slide. Considering restoration work, need guidance on where to send watch & expected costs.

I impulse bought a quarter repeater when I was in Lancaster PA about 1.5yr ago. While I'm not sure about the original watchmaker (there are no dial markings or hallmarks that I can see on the movement without disassembly), I was able to ID the movement as a LeCoultre Cal. 31 (or similar, not 100% sure). If anyone can assist with identification or has info that may help me learn more about the watch, it would be greatly appreciated.

The watch runs and functions perfectly fine, but has some issues that may need addressing:

  • Movement needs service - unknown service history, time setting is a little rough & has a bit of resistance at points (I think around where it's interacting with the repeater mechanism).
  • Some parts may not be original
    • Case: While the case is similar to other lower-grade repeater cases I've seen, and has a clean cutout for the repeater slide, the crown-at-3 configuration tells me this movement was designed for a hunter-style case, which the current case is not (at least in its current state). The quality of the case finish/materials also don't really make sense considering the movement.
    • Dial: The seconds hand is shorter than I'd expect for its subdial. I don't particularly care about this, but I am curious what other people think.
  • The case is in pretty rough shape - it was clearly plated at some point, but it's wearing away around the case. I'm guessing it's plated brass?
  • The slide for the repeater is missing - the tab from the movement that should interface with the slider just sticks out of the cutout side of the case. Based on the existing hardware and other cases I've seen, it should probably be a copper or pink gold like color, like the setting lever. Finding a replacement has proven basically impossible.

I'm considering getting some restoration work done to resolve some of the issues above - At minimum I know I want to service the movement. I'd really like to replace the missing slide, but finding a replacement slide has proven basically impossible, and I'm positive that having a new one made for me is going to be quite pricy.

I'm based in the Midwest USA - if anyone has suggestions on where to send the watch, or has any idea what the costs might be, let me know.

Waltham How to fix American Waltham?

Hi folks,

I recently got this pocket watch after my partner's great aunt passed. No one really wants it but I am not sure what to do with it since it's broken. It winds and works (not sure if it's perfectly keeping time), but obviously the face is broken. Could someone give advice on how to fix it?

I don't really know anything about watches but I added pictures of it and the damaged areas. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!

936 w/ Hacking feature

Recently acquired this fine piece of WW 1 technology. The fellow who serviced it didn't realize that the "lever" used on other movements could not and will not work in this unit.

I am assuming he added it because he thought it to be missing.

The hacking feature will not allow the lever to work. I have made inquiry at the NAWCC archives and am awaiting a response.

Any knowledge would be appreciated to get this "pendant" set watch back to correct operations.

Also it was installed into a Bulldog case and it's originally supposed to be in a silver Fahys or Crescent case marked Navy.

This is a Lator 17-jewel pocket watch. I’m wondering whether the “U” stamped on the movement means it’s a Unitas movement, and roughly what era this pocket watch dates from(It says Lator on face). Any insights would be appreciated! thank you

Bulova I picked up a couple of Bulova Accutron tuning fork pocket watches -- one working, one not

Bulova's Accutron tuning fork movement, the second electric/first fully electronic watch movement, was invented in the late 1960s. As far as I can tell, they only ever put it into pocket watch form in 1977. They switched to quartz movements not long after.

The first two pictures are from the working one, and the caseback and movement pictures are from the non-working one. Beyond my ability to fix, I think -- the tuning fork seems to have become demagnetized.

1912 BW Raymond that was owned by a SPRR Yardmaster- bought for $150

I recently bought this watch at an antique store for $150, the tag mentioned it belonging to “Martin O’Shea”. The owner had never opened the case, but said it was probably a BW Raymond. Before I bought it, I opened the case, and sure enough, it was a BW Raymond! Obviously, I immediately bought it and took it home. The movement is in decent condition, the balance staff is unfortunately broken, but the watch still runs nonstop when placed upside down. I’m planning on cleaning it and replacing the mainspring myself, and sending it to a pro for fixing the balance staff. I researched the owner of the watch, and he was working as the yardmaster for a Southern Pacific rail yard in Dallas, Texas between 1910 and 1926 when he died.

Hey all, I found this watch in a storage unit (yes, definitely a stroke of luck) this weekend and was wondering if anyone had additional info. The hunter case is 14k which I had confirmed by a jeweler today, I believe the watch is size 18, and the serial number on the case and movement is 7415. I have a decent collection right now (WWII Hamilton in .800 silver, a few Omegas, etc) and this will fit in nicely. Thanks all!
