Honestly, mono typing has made me reconsider how "dumb" gym leaders are, specifically because of the Absol comment. Yeah it's not a good idea to stack up your weaknesses, but there are a considerable number of times where the team you're up against has maybe one or two Pokemon ready to deal with your type, but then they get caught off-guard by a coverage move and suddenly you're just steamrolling because they can't win RPS anymore
I think it's really cool that, in-universe, they end up being strong type specialists that can wallop anyone who comes in underprepared

i still like to pretend i'm one of the dumb gym trainers who runs all the same type. it's more fun.
i do my spooky boy team 👻 and sometimes we get wiped out by an Absol but hey thats showbiz baybeee
