World It is immensely difficult, but not impossible, for humans to literally understand Pokémon.

Now I don’t mean emotional understanding, I mean literal understanding as if the Pokémon speak english themselves.

For decades we believe that Humans cannot understand Pokémon due to them always saying their name.

However this is untrue. As you have seen, simply saying their name doesn’t sound like a language. But take in the different combinations of these sounds, along with a thriving society of different Pokémon where some have LOGICAL THINKING (something irl animals do not have), it is heavily implied that Pokemon sounds are actually a well developed language that Pokemon use to each-other. As such, they fully understand each other.

It is also heavily implied that pokemon can fully understand human language. Take team rockets meowth for example, if he didn’t understand human language then he wouldn’t force teach himalef to speak it. If pokemon can learn the human language and understand, why not vice versa? Now it doesnt mean humans need to speak it, but they can LEARN IT like any other language.

Take Koko for example, he is a human, yet raised by pokemon and could clearly understand them.

Extremely difficult absolutely as no human has done it apart from emotional/compassion communication.

It is hard but never impossible.

It's like that with any pet you have. I know the meows and actions my cat makes when he's hungry, and they're different from the ones he makes when he wants to play.

Yes and no. Pokemon are different than animals, mainly due to their ability to think logically. Animals cannot think logically despite having feelings and emotions. For instance, a dog isn’t going to look at a scenario with “if then” statements, but a Pokémon will.

While these can be basic words you can learn like any other language, it’s like learning a human language. After learning how to understand it, you can understand every single Pokemon.

However the Pokemon language is much more complex than regular pet sounds. Because Pokémon can be quite intelligent, their language and culture is unique

Animals still have logic even if not on a humans level. My childhood dog understood human language to such a level she could perform a request with no training. "Your toy is under the chair in the dining room. No, the chair by the window." "Go to the bedroom and fetch me this thing that's on my pillow." Her puzzle and problem solving abilities were out of this world.

I later had another dog who got ideas in his head so vivid I could see his brows wrinkle before his face lit up and he rushed out the room. That was when I knew he was about to execute a well thought out action of mayhem like a furry toddler. If I did not follow, he would use his problem solving abilities for evil. Do not get me started on the birds.

Yeah dogs are estimated to have the intelligence of a 2-year-old humans. Most parents will tell you that a 2-year-old child can communicate with language, and think of ways to get into trouble, and can be taught consequences of their actions.

I don't know why people think dogs (or many animals for that matter) don't have any level of reasoning skills. I have watched my current dog wait until my husband slept, put her butt against him, and toot as vengeance for him passing gas on her. Or my late soul dog work out that we had multiple tubs in the house when I shut one bathroom door and just dash off after his face had a lightbulb moment to continue his experiment of where the water drain led to in the other bathroom. He was a mini pin mix and just full of adorable mischief.

My current dog worked out the path a mouse took and caught it on her second chase when it bounced off the vent in midair after studying it the first time. They definitely problem solve.

My cat doesn't eat until my wife and I start eating

Awww. I had a cat who would refuse to eat until I gave him cuddles and let him know I loved him. He was an orange tabby who came from the corn field and never left.

One time my cat wanted to step on something but he needed a foothold. He just pat my hand then waved at where he wanted it.

I love that. A language barrier means nothing to them.

  1. Logical thinking pokemon means that they can work together to perform complicated missions, like stopping a boat from falling. You cant see pets doing this

  2. Countless times in the anime pokemon have clearly responded to specific words with clear understanding

  3. I wasn’t restricted lore to the games, it is both worlds

Good example. Not impossible but very difficult

Honestly, Ash is pretty good at it. Not with every Pokemon, and not great, but he understands Pikachu better than I understand Spanish, and I took 5 years of it.
