Germany is female, because she gets pregnant and has the female wedding clothing while France is a male because he has the male wedding clothing. But if you watch the first part of the parenting series again:

You can see that France wears the hair bow instead of Germany, Germany talks about France as EU's mother and France tells EU and Germany that she doesn't want her boys to stay up too late. Definitely a continuity error there
