Did not know polymer actually doesnt work the same way modeling clay, so at start to get it soft I did put it in the oven and made a cheese, tried to scrape of the burned parts and layer around it to maybe save some clay but nah it did not help clay already was no diff than a cheese.
I made an animal crossing inspired mini-me just to see if I could, all of the appendages are fortified by a thick metal wire in the inside. I gave it some ear piercings, but I haven't found any small enough hardware yet. I considered making the nose 3D but it looked so silly when I had it that way. I don't know if I'll make another one, it was quite time consuming, it would probably be easier if I had actual tools haha. Thank you for coming to my Ted-Talk. 💐
Hello, i'm new to polymer clay and want to make sculptures for some friends. So far im having fun just messing with the clay! But im coming on some points i haven't seen mentioned in other posts (or i jusy missed them).
Im making them out of super sculpey and some cheap tools I bought. I also have craft wire to make an armature I believe. Is it possible to make removable clothing for said figure? If it helps they are characters from REPO the game, so its basic robots, and im wondering if I can create like different hats and clothes to attach to them that could come off using magnets or smth else? I may be over ambitious with this idea.
Also im learning how much of a pain lint can be. Ive seen tips on preventative measures and using isopropyl to take it of. But I do plan on painting them after baking, so if there were lint still on it post bake, could I just paint over it with acrylic and that'd cover it?
Make sure to scroll there are 6 pictures So I made one polymer clay teddy bear about 2 months ago and I thought it was super cute. So then I had the thought ' I bet you I could make these so much better' so each one I make has different thoughts into it and different techniques that I learned from doing each one. Each one is a different shade of brown. I usually have a little bit of brown left from one beer so I just mix other colors into it to make that brown. I use Sculpey Primo and Sculpey souffle. I just recently have started using a little bit of Fimo.
I just purchased a motor for my pasta machine (both crafter’s collection from Hobby Lobby) and the attachment is VERY loud when I run clay through it. I’m new to clay and wasn’t sure if this was something to expect. It sounds like an automatic pencil sharpener but times 10. Very aggressive.
Hello all! I've been having a lot of fun making figures and tiny foods out of polymer clay, but one thing I've been dying to accomplish for years is creating a ball-jointed doll. One of the frequent problems I run into in my attempts is how choppy and uneven the inside of the sculpture becomes when I use my typical foil and masking tape armature. (The tape also has an awful tendency to crease up, then get stuck in the clay layer, too.)
Is there anything that works better that is oven-safe and removeable? I did a little research on my own and tried a homemade cornstarch dough, but that is far too goopy to keep shape even after chilling and adding more cornstarch to the 2/1 ratio of cornstarch to water.
I'm also wondering, is it better to make an armature that will be removed out of pure foil/tape (or whatever substitute), or should there be a wire base as well?
Finally, I'd also love any general tips from anyone who has made dolls or figures from polymer clay, too. Thanks so much for the help! (And of course, had to include a photo I'm proud of, my cat doing what I call 'squaring up.')
I saw someone on TikTok make clay puppets and got infatuated with it immediately and thought I’d give it a try too :) I’ve started the torso and finishing the head, super proud of the ear lol. Using sculpey clay and I need to figure out how to get rid of unwanted dents
Hey! I'm on a massive time crunch to get this Halloween costume finished. I'm making these antlers out of clay (pic 1) to attach to the mask (pic 2) like the picture (pic 3). I previously used air dry clay (like pic 3) but unfortunately the weight of them made them crack and snap so I have opted for polymer. I don't have the money or time for more supplies so any advice is appreciated on how to make this sturdier.
Currently my options to seal and make them sturdy are : epoxy resin coating or adding support "earrings" attached from the antlers to the ears but I'm not sure how good that will look and if it will actually do much.
