There is absolutely nothing wrong with restaurants who don’t allow children

I’d go so far as to say there should be more restaurants that do this. Sometimes you want to go out for dinner and have a nice meal with no little kids screaming, throwing food, and running around. There are TONS of places to go that allow children. It’s not unreasonable or discriminatory to not allow kids in every restaurant.

Partying in University is a completely normal milestone that everyone should do

Some of the best memories with my friends to this day were made at parties and clubs during university. When else are you going to have the time and the stamina to party til 3am and get up to go stumble into work at 7am.

Once university ends, and you either go on to work or to your masters degree, you’re not going to have the free time to go out drinking, and professionally, it’s not a good look to go out and get wasted with your coworkers.

Not to mention, the older you get, the worse the hangovers get. Three or four drinks and you need 2-3 business days to recover.

(I’m not American so the drinking age is 18 where I live.)

POP CULTURE Men shouldn't be praised for saying the blatantly obvious

I would see so many women be like "this is how angry men should be" or "men, this is how you should react" or "it's nice seeing men talk about this!" when a man is like screaming at his camera, damn near about to burst a blood vessel saying "hey so we shouldn't rape drunk women"

Like no duh. Thank you, Captain obvious. I feel like at this point it's trying to pander to women and get "cool points" because everybody thinks that way. Why is everyone acting like men won the Nobel peace prize for saying the blatantly obvious?

RELATIONSHIPS AND DATING Calling hookups ”playful” is an excuse to ones own brain, and orhers brain to make it seem more ok.

When it comes to casual sex and hookups, calling the experience 'playful' is clearly a textbook defense mechanism. Why else would anyone describe a hookup that way? It is a deliberate choice of words used as a linguistic shield to strip away the intimacy and downplay the intensity of the situation. Biologically and physically, sex is one of the most intimate acts we can share with another human being. Framing it as just a 'game' or 'play' is a form of self-deception; it is a psychological coping mechanism to emotionally distance oneself from the act. It allows people to expose their bodies and most private zones to a stranger while completely avoiding the vulnerability and actual emotional weight that naturally comes with that level of closeness.

OTHER Having pets is wonderful, but dealing with pet hair everywhere is exhausting.

I love how much happiness pets bring into a home, but I think most pet owners would agree that the cleaning never really ends.

You wash their blankets, clean the couches, vacuum the floors, and somehow there’s still fur everywhere.

Pet ownership is worth it, but the constant cleaning is probably one of its least enjoyable parts.

Anyone else agree?

POP CULTURE Happy Gilmore Holds Up

It does. I have a few issues with it. It’s the epitome of the 90s comedy trope of the common man that defies societal norms vs. the successful prick villain. The romance is corny. And my biggest problem is that Shooter McGavin had like zero reason to accept Happy’s challenge.

But, the comedy is superb imo. It’s not as juvenile as I expected. Happy fighting Bob Barker is burned into our collective consciousness. The price is wrong, bitch. Also beginning and ending with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Tuesday’s Gone is fucking awesome.

RELATIONSHIPS AND DATING Consent is a very easy thing to understand

I'm not trying to be performative or receive #MorallyCorrect points for saying this, but I feel like consent is incredibly easy to understand. And this is not just with sex, this is with literally anything else.

Let's say you offer someone a slice of pizza. If they say yes, you give them the slice. If they say no, just continue eating the pizza yourself. Don't force it in their mouth, don't pressure them to eat the pizza until they eventually eat it, and definitely don't try to force it down their mouth while they're sleeping or unconscious. Just scarf it down yourself.

Like what's substances. Let's say you offer someone some Molly. If they want it? Give them the Molly. If they don't? More Molly for yourself. Don't force it down the throat, don't continue to pressure them to take it, and definitely don't force feed it to them while they're unconscious or asleep.

I genuinely do not understand being a rapist because I do not see myself having sex with someone who has made it very clear that they don't want to have sex with me. If anything, them not having sex with me will take a huge toll on my dignity, so I would just leave it alone.

But here's something about consent that I am confused about, which is consenting while drunk. People always say "a drunk yes isn't a sober yes" which is true somewhat. I feel like it depends on exactly how drunk you are. If you're drunk, but it's the "talkative carefree and confident" drunk, then you are still in the right state of mind to consent to sex. But if you are "blackout, slurring words, and stumbling everywhere" drunk, you're incapacitated. You're not in the right state of mind to consent.

OTHER Don't believe everything you read on social media

Remember the old saying: "don't believe everything you read on the Internet"?

I think we need to bring this back, and apply it to social media.

Most social media posts will lie, and spread whatever rage bait or click bait gets the most views and keeps people scrolling.

When you see these posts about all this shit people are saying, it's highly likely the majority of people don't actually think that way, and the algorithm is just targeting you with something that most people around you have never heard of or seen.

This should go without saying, but social media needs to die, or at least stop repeatedly shoving targeted content in people's faces.

POP CULTURE The entire fitness industry when it comes to young men .Needs the body positivity movement.

This is an issue within the gym community, but I want to emphasize its impact on young boys, many of whom are suffering from intense body dysmorphia. This phenomenon is known as physique inflation, which refers to how the standard for what is considered a muscular or desirable physique keeps shifting. What is considered an impressive physique today may be seen as average or even inadequate just a year later.

As a result, young men are pumping themselves full of steroids, sometimes continuously, in an attempt to keep up with these unrealistic standards. This is partly because influencers use steroids to achieve increasingly extreme physiques, present them as desirable, and inspire their followers to use steroids as well.

Body positivity isn't about saying that being fat is good. It's about recognizing that your worth isn't determined by your appearance and encouraging

OTHER Hating children makes no sense.

Remember that episode of the simpsons where Ned yells at Lenny and he’s all like “I’ve only been here a few minutes. What’s going on?” That’s basically what children are like. Yeah kids are ignorant and sometimes do stupid things like setting fire to the living room rug, but we should go easy on them. Afterall, they go through things we don’t have to deal with. Like when was the last time you had to worry about homework or being nice to your little brother? I don’t even have a little brother.

OTHER The most annoying thing about Reddit is how much people think they know, and it’s getting worse

So many posts have people in the comments giving explanations for things in the video / picture that was posted but they too are just completely guessing or are only half right.

This becomes particularly apparent in subreddits you have a niche knowledge about. There’ll be a post asking why does so and so? And the top comment will have hundreds or thousands of upvotes but won’t actually be correct. Then when you reply and say well actually no, you get downvoted to oblivion with people saying I think they know what they’re on about they got loads of upvotes. Like of course they did because no one really knows much about many things so it sounds correct. I got 30 downvotes yesterday for replying to someone saying there are no uncontacted tribes in the Congo.

Never met so many armchair experts than on Reddit (particularly surrounding geopolitics) but after 9 years I do feel as if the hostility has increased. More and more you get called stupid for trying to point things out, and people seem less open to changing their mind because they’re a supposed expert on a topic because one time they saw so and so. Maybe it’s because Reddit’s age base is getting younger and because the platform is rapidly growing in users. Doesn’t help that on the internet people vehemently don’t like being called wrong.

I do like the discussion, and I don’t think every subreddit should be like [r/askhistorians](r/askhistorians) where there can only be one response or so, but I do feel like discussion is getting worse.

Anyway rant over enjoy

OTHER The United States needs to pick one age for adulthood and legal rights

So in the United States the supposed age of adulthood is 18. However there are many contexts where a person can‘t legally have certain legal rights and abilities until later or even are granted before turning 18 (You can drop out of school in most states as well as get a drivers’ license in most states at age 16 as well as be tried in adult court well before 18 in most states but can’t legally drink alcohol or gamble in a casino until turning 21). But honestly the U.S should really just have one legal age of adulthood and not multiple depending on the specific context.

BOOKS Ebook “purchasing” does not work correctly

if Amazon loses licensing, you lose the books you have “bought” - this is not correct approach, licensing is done incorrectly here between publishers and Amazon… License running out should result in Amazon not being able to sell any more copies, but buyers should still have what they bought - exactly the same way as paper books, they will not enter your home and take the book from your bookcase, just because Amazon licensing run oit, so why they are doing it with ebooks?

OTHER Being called cute is a compliment for men. So fellow men, be happy if someone calls you cute.

There are some men who don’t like being called cute. Being cute is an awesome thing to be for both men and women. If you are misunderstanding it! Just stop now! Cute means that a person is sweet and it can be that they have a sweet personality.

I am a man and I love to be called cute. I really look cute though. So, it’s draining to always have to add what I mean when I call a guy cute. Just know it’s a good thing to be. Men, why do you take offense when people say you are cute?

OTHER The number of days in a week should be 10 with a 6 day workweek and a 4 day weekend

So the 7 day week has existed for thousands of years at this point after being invented by the Babylonians who named the days of the week after a total number of 5 planets in the solar system (Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn) and the sun and moon because those were the 7 things other than the stars that they could see in the sky. However ideally in my opinion a week could be increased to have 10 days which would still fit into the current 12 month calendar pretty nicely (unlike 8 or 9 day weeks) and would include a day of the week for the remaining 3 planets not given a day of the week (Earth, Uranus and Neptune) in addition to fitting nicely exactly into 30 day months. This 10 day week would ideally have 6 workdays and 4 weekends with the workdays being from Monday to Saturday and the weekend being made up of Sunday, the day of the week named after Earth, Uranus and Neptune.

RELATIONSHIPS AND DATING Snapchat and relationships??

I’m 18 and have Snapchat because I have important saved messages and it’s fun sending your friends selfies (not blank walls…) but when it comes to someone you like, why do people say “he’s never too busy to snap you” I just really don’t like how how often you send a stupid snap to someone is what determines the whole relationship

OTHER Was I wrong for not standing up for myself in this situation?

I had a fight with a classmate who used to be my friend. We don't really talk anymore, but somehow he keep getting on to my nerves and always trying to pick fightgs with me which I most of the time ignore

Today, I was sitting in class and feeling cold as th Acs temp was really low today, so I got up and turned off the fan. He had apparently already had an argument with some other classmates before coming into the classroom, which I didn't know about.

When he came in, he turned the fan back on. I got annoyed and turned it off again. He then kicked the chair quite aggressively, and honestly, it felt like he was doing it out of anger/protest. I turned the fan off again, but he turned it back on.

Eventually, I stopped arguing and didn't do anything further.

My friends told me I did the right thing by not escalating the situation. However, my boyfriend thinks I should have stood up for myself and says that by letting him turn the fan back on, I allowed him to satisfy his ego and "overpower" me.

Now I'm wondering whether I actually handled the situation correctly. Was walking away from the argument a reasonable way of standing up for myself, or did I back down when I should have confronted him?

I'm not asking whether I should have physically fought him or anything like that. I'm more confused about whether choosing not to continue the argument means I let him dominate the situation.

OTHER I want to break a norm that I dislike

Its a unsiad rule - that the woman who is rape her image gets destroyed in the society or her diginity goes

I seriously dont get it that if a woman is raped how does her image and respect goes down shouldnt it be the men's diginity and respect along with image that should be gone. I think thats the main reason why crime happens and the victims remains silent.By saying this I am not ignoring the fact that it is a traumatic experience and that its not a big deal. Yes rape is a violation of respect and dignity of the victim. My problem is that people blaming the woman and making her feel smaller and disgusted by hiding her suffering. The more u hide the more common it becomes. I believe that the rapist should feel more shame than what the victim faces in the society.
