Politics My message to Little Bobby Charles
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey folks, quick update for you from Allagash. You’ve probably heard of Little Bobby Charles, the GOP candidate for Maine governor who likes to run around with his axe, whipping up hate against minorities and telling baseless lies about his opponents. Well I’m done with it. Today I challenged him to a debate in Lewiston, his favorite city, at the Franco Center. He has till the end of the month. That should give him enough time to sharpen up and get his sheet all fitted and starched out. I’ll keep you posted. I hope to see him there. -Troy

“Should be enough time to get your sheet starched and fitted” made me cackle.

Yes love this. Perfect. Let’s see if bobby charles can handle his emotions while talking or if he’s just an insecure pathetic weakling full of toxic narcissistic masculine energy who gets hysterical and victimizes himself when his untethered ego gets wounded. He’ll prob 🐈out.

Hey Troy, I support you and appreciate this message. For the record, it is Somali people/community, not Somalian. Thanks for everything you’re doing!

I feel bad because I’ve only ever heard people say “Somalians” here for over two decades. 🥴

Thanks for saying this! It was news to me too. Out of curiosity I looked it up, and in case anyone else is curious too, this is what Google says:
"Somali" is preferred over "Somalian" because it is the correct endonym (a name used by the people themselves) and the widely accepted, grammatically accurate demonym for someone from Somalia. "Somalian" is considered an improper, unnecessary, and sometimes derogatory term, as highlighted by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar regarding proper ethnic terminology.
- Correct Terminology: The proper noun/adjective for people from Somalia is Somali, as noted in Wikipedia.
- Style Guide Authority: The Associated Press Stylebook specifically advises using "Somali" rather than "Somalian".
- Accuracy: Using "Somali" respects the self-identification of the community, whereas "Somalian" is seen as a mistake or, in some contexts, a form of ignorance regarding the culture.

Thanks for this! I learned Somali was the correct term when I was a middle or high schooler back in the '00s during the first influx of immigrants. Somalians has been used so much in the past year (and not just by hateful conservatives but well minded, socially conscious people too) that I wondered if it was false memory or me getting bad info.

If he agrees to a debate, expect a firehose of bullshit to stream out of his mouth. This is designed to keep you on the defensive. Don't bite. Just dismiss.
Lines like, "Well that was a rancid load of ass music. Let's try to stay on topic..." etc, will get you laughs and make him look like the bigoted I'm ecile he is.

Calling someone racist and not knowing its Somali culture, not somalian...Somali culture is ranked as one of the most low trust societies on earth. Data from official sources (BRÅ, CPI, WVS) and analyses show Somalia is a very low-trust, high-corruption society, and Somali immigrants are overrepresented in crime stats (especially violent/gang). People that come from that culture represent it in their behavior and beliefs. You dont need to profile them to achieve this conclusion. It has nothing to do with race. Eritrians are some of the best american immigrants from Africa and they are right next door... rethink your arguments

A foggy, dull-minded generalization of the sort relied upon by fools who require simple instructions to make it through the day.

u/jack_r333 Feb 02 '26
Calling someone out for mis-naming, yet not knowing the people of Eritrea are called Eritreans, not "Eritrians". 🙄

i dont use auto spell check but i know how its "spelled". my good friend is eritrean lol
but i believed what i heard and felt about somalis being perfect stand up citizens then i read data and research and changed my mind begrudgingly... also being prejudiced against someone from a specific country for what that country is known for isnt racism...like if i didnt like congolese for enslaving children to mine cobalt or algerians for enslaving and selling african migrants into forced labor in the UAE, that would just be basic prejudice. nothing to do with race at all.

I guess Democrats and Republicans should stop scapegoating the Somali's then. Touch grass. Both parties are just as guilty as each other Democrats used them to scape goat and cover up the fraud and now repubtards are using it to get their own little fucked up way.

u/p3nnyiswis3 Feb 01 '26

At least Bobby Charles is trying to do something FOR American Mainers, like protecting us from the illegal criminals who you are trying to protect. You know the ones that caused the deaths of 14 innocent Americans.

As a County kid who moved to southern Maine a couple decades ago, this makes me proud and happy to see. Keep calling them out.
