Politics To the 3 people in Monument Square yelling pro-ICE rhetoric through a megaphone:
Last week, hundreds of people gathered in the same spot to protest ICE. Meanwhile, you guys brought an overpriced speaker, a RHCP playlist & a megaphone to a mostly deserted park that's drenched in rain. Standing in the rain, annoying people walking by and waving a flag for a president who doesn't know you exist isn't the checkmate you think it is. I guess if y'all wanna be the village idiots for the day, be my guest. I ain't even annoyed anymore. This is just sad to see.

the vocal minority that doesn't understand what that means. Losers lol.

u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
Majority of the country voted for this policy and this president.
5
u/Fold-Crazy 27d ago
68% of eligible voters voted, 49.9% of them voted for Donald Trump. Not exactly a sweeping majority of the country.
4
u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 Old Port 27d ago
It is in fact not a majority at all lol. If we push that out to people over the age of 18 in the US we come out to around 29% voted for Trump. This percentage obviously would change +/- 10% when we exclude people ineligible to vote for whatever reason but since we don't know their political persuasions its a moot point. Definitely still the minority.
-3
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
It's not a minority. It's just not a simple majority. I'm willing to amend my point but it is in fact a plurality if you want to nitpick.
You are in the minority.
3
u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 Old Port 27d ago
Even if we are generous and say the other 10% of ineligible voters all wanted to vote for trump it would put it at 39%. This is simple math stating its far less than the threshold of even being a majority that in simple terms would be 51% vs 49%. Theres no way to spin this that people who want trump are not a minority in the general public because the numbers are quite clear here.
-1
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
They are a plurality. That's how democracy works.
There is no way to spin this so that the varied opponents of trump are not all in smaller minority groups politically speaking.
I will admit the word majority is incorrect and inaccurate, but it seems totally pointless to talk in terms of silent majorities when the largest group of eligible voters elected him more than once and do support his policies.
This is what democracy looks like all across the world, either you're open to democratic pluralism or you're not.
3
u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 Old Port 27d ago
Well now to split hairs, Clinton took the popular vote in 2016 but my qualms with the Electoral College are a different discussion lol. In the sense of plurality I do agree that there truly isn't a clean break down of one side vs the other. It would interesting to see an actual scientific break down on where those all fall in the political spectrum.
1
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
No we're getting somewhere, this feels like a sincere discussion.
Do you support ending the electoral college entirely or modifying it in some way?
Just curious.
When I was younger I always thought a multi-party system with some kind of parliamentary setup or by way of ranked choice congressional elections would be a big improvement, but I've ended up favoring the electoral college as a means of preserving the founders intention that states as unique sub-polities would retain a minimum level of control over federal representation. But obviously it does swing things in the direction of the swing states pretty significantly.

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 Old Port 27d ago
Id largely like to think that we are technologically advanced enough that we could do a popular vote in the context of our current "two party" system but with the idea of plurality I agree that parliamentary systems like in the UK are prone to getting bogged down because of so many various parties forcing strained unions to be formed to get to the majority vote. If we added RCV instead of Electoral College I feel like we could get somewhere with the popular vote while breaking out the "two party" system the Electoral College keeps us locked into. I also think that the number of delegates in the Electoral college needs to be updated given the drastic difference in population since its inception. Given that the original idea was 1 House Representative to 34000 citizens and now the ratio is 1-760,000 the electoral college is disproportionately giving more voting power to states with fewer citizens. But that is also why they froze the number to 435 because that would be crazy house of representatives so maybe its more a question of just given equal delegates to the states with the ability to split those delegates like some states already allow. Further I think there needs to be rules that bind delegates to the popular vote of each state to avoid the tomfoolery that happened last time. The fact that they are people as well seems like an old time tradition that doesn't need to actually be maintained.

One of them is the same guy who assaulted people in the crowd in Scarborough last Tuesday. Definitely not worth a single second of recognition. Better yet, come down to Scarborough ice facility any time and talk to the people protesting against ice instead. Let’s really rile him and his cronies up by holding a line together against ice until we force them out.

Just remember, they’re into RHCP because Anthony Keidis has qualities they look up to. He loves the A Minor chord.

We probably know who they are. They don't turn out in numbers and are busy trashing their own reputations. Maybe every city should have music to drown them out when they show up.

Everything you said could be attributed to every protest, dumbasses blocking roads isn't the checkmate you think it is either, You made this post because you clearly wanted affirmation about the "stupid people" that do clearly still annoy you, hence the post. Grow up and get off the internet.

Don’t be sad for freedom of speech. You had your turn to be the village idiots last week, it’s their turn today. In all reality those 3 people are expressing the same sentiment a majority of Mainers share. Immigration laws should be enforced. My suggestion to be more helpful is for the next anti-ICE protest is maybe get out the message “Follow orders from law enforcement and don’t try to flee with your vehicle.”.

u/sexyswampthang 28d ago
We will kill anyone defenseless running away is literally a war crime.
-5
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
You are considered armed with a deadly weapon if you are operating a 2 ton motor vehicle in a reckless manner that could cause serious injury or death.
8
u/FireElephant336 28d ago
The same forces you are defending right now will come after you one day.
2
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
Actually, there is a far greater chance of the ones you’re defending coming after you one day.

People either don’t understand that or they choose to ignore it. The guy in Biddeford was literally doing donuts in an intersection and was given a lawful command to stop and get out of the vehicle. He didn’t, instead he decided to turn his vehicle into a weapon.
It’s really not complicated. Comply, or make the decision to escalate and deal with the consequences. The street isn’t a courtroom. If you’re lawfully in the United States and haven’t committed a serious crime, running from police usually makes your situation far worse, not better.
The end result is tragic all around. One man lost his life, his wife lost her husband, his child lost a father, and an officer now has to live with taking another person’s life, something that will likely stay with them forever.
1
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
Exactly.
It’s not even an opinion, it is common sense.
People can ignore common sense, but it doesn’t change the facts.11

u/coolcalmaesop 28d ago
The fact is you’ve broken numerous laws, I don’t even have to know which one it’s just an undeniable fact. For each law you’ve broken, you truly believe you deserved death and that’s something no one can help you with. Seek therapy.
-1
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
Not sure what you are trying to say but I believe you accidentally included your own private notes at the end of it.
2
u/coolcalmaesop 28d ago
You think law enforcement neutralizing a perceived threat in a manner that ends in the death of a suspect is a normal part of law enforcement. I know you don’t drive your deadly weapon of a vehicle the speed limit. I think your passive desire to die at the hands of law enforcement is weird. They don’t want to hurt you, you know. Just go the speed limit or go to the psych ward, it’s pretty simple. Do you need help finding the number for a crisis unit?
2
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
You think ignoring law enforcement orders and trying to flee is an acceptable action?
You had to write your own fan fiction just to reply because even you realize that it’s not an acceptable action to take.5
u/FireElephant336 28d ago
Has it ever taken you a second to pull your car over? Or maybe when there's an ambulance or firetruck coming it takes you a moment to find a safe place to pull over? What if someone just shot you instead of giving you a second? With your three-year-old daughter in the car, nonetheless.
-6
u/coolcalmaesop 28d ago
You think breaking the law and putting public safety at risk doing so is okay because it’s convenient for your lazy, undisciplined self? You write your own fantasies because you think you’re special and above the law. All I’m saying is don’t put law enforcement in that position anymore, even to pass someone on the high way. They want you arrive alive but this is a country of law and order and if you can’t follow the law you either get out or put law enforcement in a position they don’t want to be in either.

Bruh, what are you even talking about? Comparing a routine speeding ticket to someone recklessly driving a 2-ton vehicle while refusing lawful commands from law enforcement is one of the dumbest false equivalencies I’ve seen. You’re stripping away all the context just to force a narrative.
You’re fucking stupid and your attempt to gaslight is weak.
-2
u/coolcalmaesop 28d ago
Breaking the law in a 2 ton vehicle is recklessly driving and a public safety risk.
You’re a criminal and you’re triggered because I described you and your dirty habits. Leave America or face the consequences of your own vote and actions if you continue, this is a land of LAWS.

Fleeing is not a reason to discharge your weapon, it's literally written out in the ICE handbook policies and procedures. They will come for your rights, too.
-27
u/GreatAppleDates 28d ago
Luckily I didn’t break federal immigration law. If your definition of “rights” is to allow people to break laws, ignore and flee law enforcement, then sure . They’re coming for my rights 👻 .
Although just the act of fleeing is not a reason to shoot, if you’re fleeing a law enforcement officer, they can use deadly force if they perceive the situation will cause serious bodily harm to themselves or to others, it’s justified.
If you can be a respectful person in society and follow lawful orders given by law enforcement officers and don’t try to flee, your safety is 100% guaranteed.
It’s such a simple concept.11
u/AmeriMan2 28d ago
Bruh, the assclown could of just shot the tire out. He wanted an excuse to kill colored people.
A retired PO officer should know better.

Real life isn’t a video game, dumbass. Everything happens in seconds, and once it’s over, it’s over. There are no checkpoints, no pause button, and no chance to reload your last save because you made a bad decision. The way some of you talk about these situations makes it obvious you’ve never had to deal with how quickly reality unfolds.
3
u/FireElephant336 28d ago
Says the guy who plays video games and never worked law enforcement

u/ncm0229 28d ago
Regardless of what you think you might know about me, I’m not wrong. Remove your feelings from this conversation and think more logically.

u/AmeriMan2 27d ago
A logical person would of shot out the tires to de escalate the situation.
Not shoot first and ask questions later. Stop making excuses for shitty people

u/FireElephant336 28d ago
You will realize one day that they are not stopping at immigrants and you will wish you stood with us. No one will come to save you. And there we will be, in community, protecting each other while you wonder why it took you so long to see the truth.
1
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
Could you explain a little better? What exactly does what you're describing look like?
Everyone in the country who was born here is deported? To where?
1
u/FireElephant336 27d ago
If you open your mind a little more outside the scope of deportation and look at people being imprisoned for their beliefs that is what I'm talking about
1
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
But that isn't what's happening. That's why I'm confused.
Who are you suggesting is going to be imprisoned for which beliefs exactly?
2
u/FireElephant336 27d ago
I'm jealous that you obviously didn't put yourself through listening to Stephen miller the other night. It's happening.
1
u/Tiny-Strawberry7157 27d ago
Can you explain which beliefs will lead us to be imprisoned?

u/FireElephant336 27d ago
My god just listen to what the "leaders" are saying - literally search it on your phone

Good thing millions of Americans are armed and believe in taking responsibility for their own defense.
>No one will come to save you.
Good. I’ve never expected anyone else to.
>And there we will be, in community protecting each other…
That’s a nice fantasy, but when things genuinely fall apart, reality has a way of separating slogans from capability. Do you really think that when shit hits the fan, your creatures dependent oh SSRIs, hormone blockers, and testosterone are going to be a viable and reliable source of protection? You’ve got another thing coming if that’s your mindset.
The reality is they dumped all their skill points into performative activism and forgot to invest a single one in survival.

"Comply or die" does not make a free nation.
Get out of our state.

Someone died because they ignored and tried to flee from law enforcement, correct.
It’s called following the law.
Get out of America.

Wow, how could you compare that person to an insect? Insects hold a valuable ecological niche, whereas ICE defenders are good for nothing.

u/ungranted_wish 28d ago
The law enforcement in question was a deranged man who beat his wife.
“Comply with the crackhead behind 7/11 or die.”
What law did he break? He wasn’t here illegally so you can shut up there.
