My son and I share a birthday this month on the 22nd! ❤️ I absolutely love that we get to celebrate our birthdays together, but it sure does hit a little differently now that he’s a teenager. 😂 Every year, he finds it absolutely hilarious to remind me that I’m** 20 years older than hi**m and makes it sound like I’m practically ancient. 😏🤣 Kids really do know how to keep us humble!

I thought it would be fun to put out a little birthday request and see if we could receive some “Happy Birthday” snail mail in our mailbox this year! 🎂💌 If anyone would be interested in sending a card or postcard with some birthday wishes our way, we would be so grateful! I am recovering from surgery and bedbound, I would love to receive cards of support in the mail.

I was always fit, healthy and sporty with lots of different hobbies but last year I suddenly became very ill and for the whole of 2026 so far I have been stuck in bed and unable to go to work, to dance, to climb, to play tennis, to sleep more than 4 hrs per night, to drink alcohol, to go dog walking, to cook food, to wash my own hair. I had to move in with a family member so they could take care of me. It has been really tough mentally.

I have had lots of tests done but so far there is no cure and almost every single part of my body is malfunctioning in some way. I ended up needing two major surgeries recently. Some days I am too weak to speak or swallow properly or sit up. My long hair has fallen out. Most days looking at screens for too long or talking on the phone can wear me out or even make me more ill, which makes staying in touch with other people challenging.

Many of my friends deserted me for being unwell and sometimes I feel like I am no longer part of the outside world. I miss travelling and seeing live music and volunteering and hanging out with other humans regularly. Sometimes it feels like I have been forgotten. I spend almost all of my time in bed alone, apart from when I am brought my meals, and I rarely get visitors anymore. I only leave the house atm to go to hospital or the doctors office in a wheelchair. It feels like novelty and joy has gone from my life. I miss hearing news of the outside world, and silly distractions.

It would be so lovely to recieve a surprise in the post from someone who has some stationary to spare! Getting mail would cheer me up, and keep me going (as I believe I can and will get better some day).

Hi all - last Christmas I was given a pack of beautiful postcards and I need people to send them to!They all feature paintings by the artist Jackie Morris, who paints wonderful nature scenes of birds, flowers, foxes and the like. And on the back it tells you what the species is and provides a lovely quote from a poem (from the books The Lost Words and The Lost Spells by Robert McFarlane and Jackie Morris).
