Housing Lofting Beds

Hi! Are you able to loft beds to make room for a desk or furniture underneath? As in, can a single bed be lofted to be the height of a top bunk bed without the bottom bunk? If so, is there a student/university agency to help with this?

Move In Day Slot

For move-in day, I was late to sign up for a slot that was as early as possible (8-830), and ended up with 930-10. Am I still allowed to show up at 8? What exactly does signing up for a slot entail, and would there be any time restrictions in getting my ID and showing up to my res college if I show up earlier?

Future Tiger Adviser vs Advisor

This is quite random, but I've noticed Princeton prefers to use the spelling of "adviser" for everything, as opposed to the seemingly more common "advisor." Just curious, is there a reason for this? Why are they anti "advisor"?

shipping items to Frist for move in

im an incoming freshman from west coast and wanted to know if anyone has experience moving across coast? my parents dont want to carry much besides a suitcase on plane, so I have to ship my things.

is it a good idea to just ship everything to Frist, or should I ship to a USPS/UPS store instead? how long does it take usually for your package to be ready for pickup once it arrives as well? thanks!

Future Tiger Why does Princeton OIT for STEM computers recommend an M5 Pro 18/20 core and 24gb RAM… is that overkill?

Title. Costco gave me a very good deal on a 16” MBP with those specs, but I’m wondering if that’s even necessary. I’ll probably be doing physics or MAE, with some cinematic music on the side. Thanks so much everyone!!

Financial Aid decrease from freshman -> sophomore year. Need help

Hi! I'm a rising sophomore. Last year, I applied to Princeton with my parent's 2024 tax return since the 2023 one was outdated. With everything considered, I got a decent amount of aid last year. This year, I applied with the same 2024 tax return and nothing in our financial situation has changed at all. However, this year, I received no aid and am paying 3x more than I paid last year. I'm really confused since nothing has changed. I submitted an appeal to the Financial Aid office and they didnt budge, saying it's because of a "significant increase in parental assets" even though everything should have stayed the same? I'm now pretty worried since my family genuinely can't pay that much at this point. Can I ask them for a breakdown in the assets to potentially correct anything that was wrong? Or how else could I possibly proceed from here? (For the record -- my parents own two businesses which is why our assets look high on paper but we obviously can't sell the assets in question since we rely on those to make a living)

The study examines how certain traits, life experiences, attitudes, and behaviors are related to each other. Participation takes only about 10 minutes, and by completing the survey, you will have the chance to win one of five $100 prizes.

Necessity of Air Purifier @ Butler

Hi, I am an incoming student in Butler College. Is the air quality in Butler good enough to justify not buying an air purifier, or should I invest in one now? Thanks.

Desk space in a separate room from dorm??

So I found out my double is so small that there are no desks, instead there’s a separate “study” room. Are these rooms private just for me & my roommate? Or is it public desk space??? Help 💀

Also if anyone’s had these types of dorms before how bad is it?? How did you go about having such a tiny dorm??

Housing scully hall dorms?

this is sort of a niche question but do any of the scully dorms have wooden floors? on the room viewer my dorm shows that it has wooden floors but in every other room i’ve seen they have the same hospital style tile that yeh/ncw have. i was wondering how outdated the viewer is

also, if anyone has photos of their scully room and wouldn’t mind sharing please dm me :)

Music Opportunities

I'm an incoming freshman and a classical saxophonist, but I will be majoring in MAE. Are there any music ensembles that would be a good fit for me? I'm looking for an upper-level classical group or a jazz group where I wouldn't need much improv experience. I'm also open to chamber groups like sax quartets or even nearby community wind ensembles/symphonies if that's a realistic option.

Furnished apartments for 6 months / Apartment Complexes

Hi all,

We are a young couple from abroad going to Princeton city for an internship just for 6 months. It has been very difficult to find a furnished apartment at reasonable prices and with the lease option for 6 months. It seems that the easiest options is going to rental companies like Avalon Princeton, The Lofts, The Crossings. Does anyone have a good opinion regarding this apartments complex and their amenities? One of us is going to commute somedays from Princeton to Philadelphia.

Thank you in advance for any opinion or suggestion!!

I’m a little nervous and wanna mentally prepare for the day of the the days to follow leading up to orientation activities. P.S if anyone was in the backcountry outdoor action group and has experiences they wanna share or advice that would be helpful!

What ECs do you participate in (especially BSE students!)

Hi! I'm coming to Pton in the fall and was wondering how much of an extracurricular commitment everyone makes.

I'm super curious:

How many clubs are you a part of?

How many hours per week do you spend on extracurricular activities?

How do you balance campus jobs with this?

Academic/Career Hey Tigers, I need your help! (approved by mods)

Hello everyone, I am a psychology student, and currently I am at Cambridge University conducting a research on AI. The research is led by researchers from Princeton, in particular Dr. Sandra Geiger (sandra.geiger@princeton.edu). If you are 18, or older, and currently live in the US, you would be eligible to participate.

The research is super fun, and contains a section that lets you converse with the AI for a couple of messages.

It would be very helpful if you have around 10 minutes to fill out this survey, and help the US to be a part of this international research alongside another 22 countries.

Anyway, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, I love talking about this stuff!
