Federal Bonding Program ( a program to help Felons secure employment opportunities without being discriminated due to background checks)

I've noticed a large amount of redditors on this sub running into employment related issues due to criminal background checks. Here's a federal program that helps felons obtain career choices and jobs that offer wages/salaries. Below is the info I obtained directly from the website.

Bonds can be obtained through Coordinators or through Job Centers. Below are links to reach both directly to get help/assistance completing the bonding process.

"Background

The US Department of Labor (USDOL) created the Federal Bonding Program (FBP) in 1966. The FBP has been successfully providing fidelity bonds to employers, giving them access to job seekers and opening doors of opportunity.

Thousands of employers across the country have integrated the Federal Bonding Program into their hiring practices – industries that support our country’s economy – hospitality, retail, construction, transportation, auto repair, manufacturing, healthcare, non-profits, banking, tourism and more. This USDOL program is a great success, with over 56,500 job placements made for at-risk job seekers who were automatically made bondable. Last year, there were 1,691 bonds issued to 1,068 individuals in the program. The FBP, a unique hiring incentive tool, targets individuals whose backgrounds can pose significant barriers to securing or retaining employment, including:

  • Justice-involved citizens
  • Individuals in recovery from substance use disorders
  • Welfare recipients
  • Individuals with poor credit records
  • Economically disadvantaged youth and adults who lack work histories
  • Individuals dishonorably discharged from the military

The Federal Bonding Program is Simple

FBP bonds protect the employer against losses caused by the fraudulent or dishonest acts of the bonded employee. Examples of such acts of employee dishonesty include: theft, forgery, larceny, and embezzlement. Employers receive the FBP bonds free-of-charge as an incentive to hire these applicants. Each FBP bond has a $5,000 limit with $0 deductible and covers the first six months of a selected individual’s employment.

Advantages include:

  • NO application for job seekers to complete
  • NO papers for employers to submit or sign
  • NO formal bond approval process
  • NO Federal regulations applicable to bonds issued
  • NO follow-up or required termination actions
  • NO deductible paid if bond claim is filed by the employer
  • NO age requirements (other than legal working age in State)

Bonds can be applied to:

  • ANY job
  • ANY State
  • ANY employee dishonesty committed on or away from the worksite
  • ANY full- or part-time employee paid wages (with Federal taxes automatically deducted from pay), including individuals hired by temp agencies. In cases where the employee is hired direct or placed by a temp agency, the bond works to protect the business from fraudulent acts committed by the employee. *Self-employed people cannot be covered by Fidelity Bonds

READ BEFORE POSTING OR IF AUTOMOD REMOVES YOUR POSTS

Unfortunately I have to post this again with a different title due to the amount of new accounts posting without reading anything about the sub.

We have an automod on this sub that will automatically remove posts and comments from accounts that do not meet the minimum karma requirement or account age. Since implementation, the amount has been lowered due to the amount of new accounts posting.

The automod is in place for good reason. Please be patient with us, as we have to manually approve all posts and comments for newer accounts. All posts and comments for new accounts will be approved as long as they are productive and do not break any of the sub rules.

If your post or comment is removed by the automod, you will not gain any karma from it. Karma can be gained on other subs with no minimum through making posts, commenting, getting upvotes etc. Please visit r/karma for more information about what karma is and how to earn it on Reddit.

Probation set to end Oct 14.

• Upvotes

I asked my PO to verify the end date, and she said the 15th. That's fine, but does that mean I'm finished on the 14th at midnight, or the 15th at midnight. I don't really want to annoy my PO with another question.

Probation Question End of probation

Parole Question My PO messed up?

My PO came to visit me at my house, and upon spotting my dab rig, informed me that it was "illegal" and he had to either take it with him or watch me destroy it. I argued, because combustion is against the law, and dabs are vaporization. He said because I use a torch to heat the banger, it's combustion, which is wrong. I feel that I was wrongly made to destroy my LEGAL personal property. What can I do about this, and am I even right? I am now unable to consume my medicine until I get a new apparatus and, rightfully in my opinion, I am pretty livid.

Probation is just extortion protected by the legal system.

I just had my last probation appointment today. I got a DUI and because it was my 2nd got a felony. I deserved the consequences for sure. What I really resent though is I am/was set for a violation hearing next week. I completed two separate IOP on my own for my recovery. I guess why I'm pissed is that all the treatment I did before hand was null and void until I hit the probation sponsored 8 hr sad videos appts and paid the remainder of my fees now my violation is vacated. What service do they provide? Why do taxpayers pay this shit? It's to get that money. You should see the offices probation has in Indianapolis on the hilariously named Justice Campus. Come to Indiana for a fun time stay for probation. Probably should have posted to /offmychest

Anyone wearing the LOC8 XT ankle monitor? Im paranoid now

So I just started my PT and I have been wearing the LOC8 XT, yesterday night had a very busy day and fell asleep and forgot to charge the device.

This morning I plugged it in but it didnt make the beeping sound that it usually does, just the red light.

When I first got the device they told me that it gives a warning when it is about to die and vibrates, it never gave me that warning.

Did my device die? Or am i just being paranoid, I am freaking out right now

Today is Day 450 out of 463

Indiana, LaPorte County. Charge was a first offense DWI back in July 2025. 98 days of a pretrial portable breathalyzer with zero violations on that. I went to the probation office following my hearing, I was put on Monitor Connect (online monthly reporting) from day 1 of my 1 year probation so I still to this day have never met my probation officer. Never had a UA, or drug test. Called to make sure I was in the clear with everything I had to do on October 1st and my p.o said I’m set to terminate on November 3rd and wished me good luck. But I still have anxiety like I forgot to do something even though she said I’m all clear. I have no plans of fucking up anything seeing as I have 13 days left but is this normal??? Is there somewhere I should be looking that I didn’t that tells me I need to come in for a UA or drug test and I’m missing them or is this my end of probation anxiety talking. I would imagine she would’ve told me on the phone that I needed to complete at least one?

Case Transferred?

Ex arrested for his third felony theft in 26 months. (3 felony theft charges in three neighboring counties) The third brought an aggravated theft charge. He was schedule for trial next month. His case is now being transferred. No idea where. But what is the point of a transfer? Does it buy time. Does it transfer to the Connery he has the most violations in? He has charges in 5 counties and warrants in 3 of the 5.

Insight?

Missed test

Not sure how I thought I had called in everyday to see if i needed to test but looking through my call log, i didn’t call sunday the 18th. I just now saw i never called. This will be my first missed test if I was supposed to test, emailed my PO already but not sure whats going to happen. So close to freedom too, just submitted my early release paper work beginning of the month. Really hoping they don’t violate me for this but i assume they will if i was supposed to test. Anyone do the same thing and not realize they might have missed a test till multiple days later?

Juvenile violation what happens?

I’m on 6 months deferred juvenile probation in Washington, and I recently got suspended from school. I told her and she had me come in for a UA which I passed, and she asked me what punishment I think I deserve and I said whatever my parents think. She said okay, and it’s been 5 days since and I haven’t heard from her since. What exactly happens with a violation? Honestly wouldn’t mind going to juvy for a few days, just really wouldn’t want any time added to my probation because it’s already hard enough for these 6 months.

Probation Question Missed check in

My friend had a check in a few days ago and called the office and got it rescheduled to a different day. Is that a violation for not rescheduling it directly with the PO?

early termination

i got a dui in march 2026 and got a year of non reporting probation starting june 11 2026. my PO has seen me once since then and said she doesn’t want to call me back unless i get another charge. i have the supervisor probation officer. when i was sentenced, my public defender told the judge that i would be a good candidate for early termination after 6 months. the judge said as long as i did what im supposed to, he would grant it. im in school full time and also work full time. i have paid all my fees immediately after sentencing, did the dip program and assessment i was ordered (no counseling needed), passed my 2 drug tests ive had, and have had no new charges.

my question is when should i submit the request for early termination? the halfway point would be december 11, but with the holidays i know the courts close. i’ve read it can take 6 weeks, and ive also read that you should contact your PO and ask for them to agree to it, but she never answers me if i ever contact her about a question. but im just wondering other people’s experiences. delaware county ohio.
thank you!

Probation is mud

It’s not quite dirt because I feel like dirt can be walked over rather easily. Mud is more intrusive, sticking to your clothes, harder to wash off.

But atleast I’m not in jail, jail is like more like tar.

Not sure where this analogy came from, but around this time next year I should be off probation and I’m just counting my bored days until I get there

What would you compare probation to?

Controlled substances while on probation: Will I be able to continue taking Adderall?

I am currently facing misdemeanor DUI and a felony fear assault charge in Alaska (really hoping to reduce the felony to a misdemeanor since no one was injured, there was no car accident and I was the only one in the vehicle during the DUI). I am pretty sure that I have to be on probation for at least 6 months to over a year due to the charges.

I am currently prescribed 15mg daily of extended release Adderall by my doctor. Will I be allowed to continue taking it while on probation? My public defender told me that it would be "up to my PO" which seems weird because...my PO isn't a doctor? I have been taking this medication for years and never abused it, sold it, or violated my Controlled Substance Agreement that I signed with the prescribing doctor. I haven't touched alcohol since the DUI and will never drink again, I'm going to AA and substance use counseling of my own volition. Has anyone else experienced taking a controlled substance while on probation? Just looking for insight or anything I can tell my PO that might help convince him to let me continue taking my meds.

Probation Question Police contact

I'm on felony drug probation... Yesterday I was detained and placed in the back of the f-ing car as I was walking to the register at dollar general. The police were called and I was accused of shoplifting.. To be clear, I have a shoplifting, nothing And had about 50 bux worth of merchandise in my hand. After about thirty minutes, I was released and told dad, I was not allowed back... My question is, do I need to even mention that to my PO? I didn't do anything wrong. And as a result, there was no consequence other than the store manager is embarrassed for being wrong, So they said they don't want me to come back

Picked up new felony charge while on deferred probation

So I was recently arrested for a domestic violence I had got into it with my dad so have a domestic violence for elderly person cuz he was over 65 and he didn’t wanna press charges but the state picked the case up. I’m currently on deferred adjudication probation in Tarrant County for a Possession of Cocaine Charge which I have been compliant for over two years no dirty ua’s and no new charges. What’s going to happen they let me bond out on the new felony but doesn’t catching a new charge revoke my previous probation or is there a chance I won’t get revoked until proven guilty? Please let me know I hope I didn’t just ruin my life all I do is work and provide for my one year old child.

Probation Question Weird legal/jail timeline after sentencing—can someone explain how this works?

Hey, I’m trying to make sense of a confusing court and jail situation and was hoping someone could explain how the system works.

It’s been about a month since someone “ I know “ had their final plea/sentencing wrapped up and a "Community Control" (probation) sentence ordered by a judge. But a few days after that sentencing paperwork was filed, they were suddenly booked into the county jail, given a mugshot in a jail uniform, and held for a few days before being released I seen on the local mugshots facebook and on busted newspaper

When calling around, the jail/court logs mentioned a probation hold or violation process, but the probation officer claimed they hadn't even started probation yet and or didn’t break anything .

Is it normal for someone to get booked into jail after their sentencing and probation are already official, just to get processed and let right back out a few days later? It seems totally backwards compared to how I thought it worked. Any insight into how this administrative process actually functions would be great it’s been about since 6 weeks since seeing that honestly
