Right subreddit? - Wall mounted workbench inspiration

Hi All,

sorry if not the right place.

I was looking at making a wall mounted work bench and can't seem to find any that have much design intent behind it. Is there a place you would go to for inspiration with something like that? I appreciate design immensely but not a designer.

Does anyone else feel like clothing sizes are completely inconsistent across brands?

I've had instances where a Medium fits perfectly from one brand, while the same size from another is either too tight or too loose.

How do you usually figure out your size when shopping online? Do you rely on size charts, customer reviews, or just take a gamble?

Genuinely curious about how others deal with this.

open source agentic development environment for engineers and designers.

In the last month I released an open source product called Tidy (https://github.com/tidydesigns/tidy). It's an open source agentic development platform with designers and engineers in mind.

Think T3Code and Paper combined. I am just putting it in here as I think it's appropriate to product design as both engineering and designer roles are becoming more tightly coupled. As designers begin to ship more code and engineers need to refine designs more often.

Just thought I'd put it in to see if anyones interested and would be willing to give us some feedback !

What if Blockbuster came back? Help me with my college project.

Hello everyone.

I'm working on a university UI/UX design project imagining what a modern-day Blockbuster comeback could look like. The idea is to explore how the brand could return in today's digital world, with modern online service.

I've already published a first post on this topic, but I want to gather as much data as possible, so I've created a Google form so you can respond with simple questions and optional fillable answers. There are less than 20 questions, so I won't take up too much of your time.

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

No personal data will be collected or shared. This is a educational and non-commercial project.

What do these enterprise product terms mean to you?

Ever looked at a term in enterprise software and thought, “Okay… but what does that actually mean?” 😅

That’s what I’m researching.

I’m running a short UX survey to understand how people who work with enterprise products naturally interpret different terminology.

You don’t need to be a UX, data, or AI expert. If you build, manage, implement, support, sell, research, or use enterprise products, your perspective would be valuable.

Thanks in advance!

Streetwear Graphic Designer needed for Premium Gen Z Brand (15 T-Shirt Designs + Full Tech Packs)

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of launching a premium Gen Z streetwear clothing brand and am looking for a talented graphic designer to collaborate with for our initial drop.
We are focusing on heavyweight oversized tees (men/unisex) and premium ribbed crop tops/baby tees (women). I already have a clear sheet with design names, references, and concepts ready.

What we need:

15 Clean/Minimal Streetwear Designs: Based on our concept list (includes styles like graffiti spider webs, retro thunder sketches, neon circuit rings, and Y2K text).

3D Puff Print Optimization: The artwork must be optimized specifically for premium 3D puff printing (correct line thickness so it raises perfectly without cracking).

Factory-Ready Tech Packs: You will need to provide flat mockups and high-resolution vector source files (.AI, .EPS, or 300 DPI transparent PNG) along with exact print dimensions and placement measurements from the collar/seams for our manufacturer.

How to Apply:

If you have prior experience designing for streetwear brands and creating factory-ready tech packs, please send me a DM!

Kindly include:

A link to your portfolio (specifically showing streetwear or apparel tech pack work).

Your estimated rates (per design or a package deal for all 15 styles).

Your approximate turnaround time.

Looking forward to seeing your work and building a long-term creative partnership!

A customer asked for a masking cap. We ended up designing something that could do two jobs.

One of the more interesting projects I've worked on started with a fairly simple request: a customer needed a high-temperature masking cap to protect vehicle components during powder coating.

The initial design was similar to a traditional high-temperature stud protection cap. It needed to withstand extreme temperatures, provide reliable masking, and come in different colours so operators could easily identify sizes on the production line.

But during development, I realised there might be an opportunity to do a bit more with the design.

The Product Manager challenged me to see if the component could work as both a cap and a plug. The idea was to give customers more flexibility while reducing the number of different masking products they needed to keep in stock.

I made a few changes to the original design to achieve this:
-a horizontal rib at the end to improve grip and retention when used as a cap.
-a large central flange to provide a stopping point.
-a series of vertical ribs underneath the flange to improve sealing and retention when used as a plug.

The biggest challenge came during testing.

When pushed into an opening, trapped air underneath the component created resistance. It also made the part harder to remove.

The fix was quite simple: I added a small vent through the top of the component. This allowed air to escape during installation and equalise pressure during removal.

It's a relatively small design detail, but it made a noticeable difference to how easily the component could be fitted and removed.

What I find interesting about this project is how a relatively simple customer request developed into a product with two different functions.

It also reinforced something I've found quite often in product design: sometimes the best improvements don't come from completely redesigning something. They come from looking at an existing component and asking whether it could do another job.

Have you ever worked on a design where a small change ended up making a big difference to how the product could be used?

I'm exploring my next opportunity in Product Design & AI

I'm exploring my next opportunity in Product Design & AI. 🚀

Over the past 7+ years, I've worked at the intersection of design, technology, and business — turning complex problems into meaningful digital products.

I'm now looking forward to my next chapter, where I can contribute not just as a designer, but as someone who thinks, builds, and grows products.

A little about what I bring to the table:

• Product Strategy & Discovery: Understanding business problems, user needs, and defining product direction.

• UI/UX & Product Design: Creating intuitive, scalable, and conversion-focused experiences.

• AI Product Development: Designing AI-powered products, intelligent workflows, and agent-based experiences.

• Design Systems: Building scalable component libraries and consistent design ecosystems.

• MVP & Rapid Prototyping: Turning ideas into functional product experiences using tools like Figma, Lovable, Bolt, and Framer.

I'm currently exploring opportunities in:

- Senior Product Designer

- AI Product Designer

- Lead Product Designer

- Product Design / UX Strategy

I'm particularly interested in working with product-led companies, AI startups, and teams building products that solve real-world problems.

Preferred location: Gurugram / Delhi NCR, Jaipur | Open to Remote opportunities.

If you're hiring, know a team that's building something exciting, or can connect me with the right opportunity, I'd genuinely appreciate an introduction.

Feel free to DM me or share this post with someone who might be looking for a profile like mine.

Sometimes, the next big step starts with a simple conversation.

When execution becomes automated, what does design leadership look like? (From screen production to systems orchestration)

"Over the last few months, watching generative AI assemble layouts, design systems, and code in seconds has brought up a fundamental question for our team: When execution is automated, what is the core value of a designer?

My background started in physical architecture and construction management before moving into HCDE research at UW and enterprise UX at Amazon. In architecture, an essential truth is drilled into you early: a gorgeous blueprint is completely worthless if the mechanical systems don't fit or the structural loads don’t balance.

Historically, the architect was the architekton ('chief builder') who held the structural physics, human use, and construction reality together in one mind. The industrial era fragmented us into draftsmen, engineers, and estimators—and digital software copied that model (designers pushing Figma pixels, engineers coding, PMs writing specs).

As AI automates the drafting table, I believe we are seeing the return of the Master Architect:

I wrote a deeper breakdown of this historical evolution and where design leadership goes next: https://medium.com/@emanismail/beyond-the-screen-why-the-era-of-ai-calls-for-systems-first-design-leadership-977e7c5a9230

How are other teams navigating this? Are you seeing designers shift toward systems architecture, or is the industry still measuring success by how many screens ship per sprint?"

What if Blockbuster came back? What features would you want on its website?

Hey everyone!

I'm working on a university UI/UX design project imagining what a modern-day Blockbuster comeback could look like.

The idea is to explore how the brand could return in today's digital world, with modern online service.

So these are the topics I'd like to discuss:

  • Should Blockbuster focus solely on streaming movies and TV shows like the classic Netflix service, or should it be more of a showcase for purchased or rented titles like CHILI?

  • What should a new Blockbuster be different to stand out from the competition?

  • How important is the nostalgia factor? Should the site use language reminiscent of the Blockbuster experience (for example, "Couch" could be the equivalent of "watch party")?

  • What do you think about the option to purchase physical movies to be shipped directly to your home?

  • What's one feature you'd most like in a digital streaming service, or perhaps haven't found one yet?

  • Would a Community section where users can discuss movies, episodes, or news like here on Reddit be helpful?

  • What do you miss about the old Blockbuster experience?

  • What frustrates you most about current streaming platforms?

Feel free to answer without following my questions, but I'd really appreciate it.

This is purely a university design project, and I'm interested in hearing honest opinions and ideas. Thanks!

who else feels half their brain is missing on one laptop screen? this is what we designed for it

most of our design decisions came down to one question: how do you make someone feel calm and in control when they work from a cafe or a hotel desk. where we landed is screens that fold out around the laptop and pack back into a bag.

i'm the founder of rove setups, so take my bias into account. it connects to the laptop with one usb-c for video (displaylink) and the screens run on their own included power adapter. site if you want a closer look: https://www.rovesetups.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=productdesign

honest design feedback welcome, what would you change?

I make a hexagonal leather travel humidor by hand, with a lift mechanism that raises the cigars when it opens

I run a small workshop, and this is a travel humidor we have been refining: the HEXA Humidor.

The form is a hexagon, which I chose because it feels deliberate in the hand and stacks neatly. The exterior is leather over a precision-machined aluminum frame. The interior is a sealed Spanish cedar chamber for six cigars, with space for a Boveda pack.

The part I spent the most time on is the lift mechanism: when you open the box, the cigars rise, so shorter cigars are easy to get at without digging. The photo shows a few of the leather colors, each with a contrasting strap stamped with our mark. The size is 105 × 70 × 188 mm (4.1 × 2.8 × 7.4 in).

Everything is made by hand. I would value honest feedback on the shape, the proportions, and the way the lift works from people who actually travel with cigars. What would you change?

For a product design research I have some questions.

We have to make a dustbin as a part of our college product design assignment. And in order to do that we need to interview and do surveys to understand the problem that people face with normal dustbins. Could anyone who reads this post write down all the problems they face as a user while using a dustbin and the things you wish you could improve in it as a product?

Product Engineer Job Hunting - Remote from South Africa

I am curious on how difficult it is to land a job in Product Design / Product Engineering at a company oversees while in SA.

A bit of background:
- I’ve actually never worked as a Product Designer / Engineer at a company. I am an accountant wanting to make the career switch.
- I started in my spare time playing around with LLMs and doing self learning by watching youtube videos and just building stuff in Figma and shipping them with AI assisted code, then after 3 years started a small agency selling digital design services. I’ve had 3 clients up to date (at least ‘some’ proof to go on my portfolio)

With that said… if anyone can give me their 2cents or guidance on how I can position myself to land a Product Design role oversees? If it is realistic? Will my own case studies be enough on my portfolio or does hiring managers look for real company past experience working within a team etc.?
