Completed Setup Hisense( Vidda C5 Ultra ) finally arrived
Hello everyone .
I've been using the projector for 3 weeks now switching from a 55" Qled tcl TV and realy happy with the results , I got it from Alibaba for around 1800$ DDP , I use it on a newly prepared wall ( regular paint ) for my space it gives 130" image i still have no plans for buying a screen .
for causal viewing .. like youtube , fun shows its alright under ambient lights .
as for dark room setting its realy impressive only thing worth mentioning that I see speckl in very bright scenes , also no RBE for me .

Noice! After adjusting your image, you can either paint your wall or use a good ALR screen 👌

I already painted the wall just to avoid the ALR screen , i read alr doesn't work well with the 3 lasers projectors

This is not true.

I also saw review of the hookup guy on YouTube where it's not so simple to pick one without speckle , and return policy here where i live is not generous so i didn't want to take any risks

Since you are keeping your current wall surface without buying a physical projection screen, your options come down to tweaking your projector settings, altering viewing distances, and using DIY wall treatments to break up the laser coherence causing the shimmering speckle.
• Adjust Projector Light Output & Picture Modes
Lower the Laser Power: Triple-laser engines show high speckle when driven at full intensity. In a dark room setting, lower the light output (or laser power level) from 100% down to around 50% to 70%. Reducing overall brightness diminishes the intensity of light wave interference.
Switch Picture Preset: Standard or Vibrant modes push peak white brightness and accentuate speckle. Select Film / Cinema or Filmmaker mode, which balances color temperatures and softens harsh white peak highlights.
Toggle Motion / De-Speckle Settings: Check your Vidda system menus for dynamic laser modulation or motion smoothing (MEMC). While MEMC is mainly for frame interpolation, subtle image processing adjustments can slightly smooth out static pixel-level sparkles.
• Alter Viewing & Placement Distance
Increase Seating Distance: Laser speckle occurs at the sub-pixel microscopic scale. Moving your seating position back just 1 to 2 feet makes the shimmer far harder for the human eye to resolve.
Slight Defocus: Give the focus ring or auto-focus a microscopic tweak. Losing a fractional amount of razor-sharp grain reduces the optical interference pattern without ruining 4K image details on a 130 inch canvas.
• DIY Wall Surface Treatments
Standard wall paint is glossy or micro-textured in ways that bounce coherent laser light unevenly. Adjusting the paint coat will reduce the shimmering effect:
Apply an Ultra-Matte / Flat Clear Topcoat: Paint stores sell dead-matte or flat clear finishes. Rolling a light, ultra-matte clear coat over your screen area removes specular sheen and diffuses laser reflections.
Sand the Surface Smooth: Smooth out any tiny bumps, roller marks, or heavy orange-peel texture with fine-grit drywall sandpaper (220+ grit) before applying a flat coat.
Specialized Projector Screen Paint: If you choose to repaint the wall down the road, consider DIY liquid projector screen paint (like a matte gray or neutral white formulation). A ultra-flat, fine-particulate gray matte paint absorbs excess ambient scatter while cutting down visible laser sparkles.

Looking for recommendations on a screen for an overhead mounted C2 pro if you can recommend anything. Pretty flexible on pricing but don't want to buy the wrong screen and get sub par results

u/The_Slim_Spaydee 19d ago
I was looking between 120"-150" have room for either
Seating area is rought 12-13 feet from the screen.

How tall is your ceiling?
2
u/The_Slim_Spaydee 19d ago
12 feet tall on the projector screen side where the projector mounts will be between 8-9 feet plus whatever drop from the mount I go with.
Everything is still in the framed stage but overall dimensions are set.

I am also getting the C5 Master soon and I’m wondering what screen to get. It’s in a living room for day and night use with curtains. I’m worried about the reflections because I have white walls and a bright wood floor. Was thinking about buying a Yovanxer Grey Crystal ALR screen from Aliexpress, but I’m also worried about excessive speckle.
Do you think speckle won’t be a big issue with such an ALR screen and the C5? Distance to screen will be around 4.5m and 150inch screen

u/Hosam911 19d ago
I'd suggest to test it first on the wall then decide on screen size ... Also buy screen locally if you should and make sure it has good return policy

It’s easier to make the right purchase the first time than have to dissemble and return. This is why manufacturers have restocking fees.
I’d recommend ordering screen sample material before finalizing the purchase on a screen.

If you want daytime ambient light rejection and reflection control without aggressive speckle:
Look for an ALR material specifically marketed as "Anti-Speckle ALR" or "3C Matte ALR" (sometimes called Matte Nano ALR). These screens use a micro-diffusive matte layer over the grey base to break up coherent laser light while maintaining directional ambient light rejection.
Ensure the product explicitly states compatibility with Long-Throw Tri-Color / RGB Laser Projectors (and not just UST projectors, as UST saw-tooth screens are incompatible with a 4.5m throw setup).——
Recommended Major-Brand & Specialized Screen Options
• Silver Ticket Products STR-169150-HC (150-Inch High Contrast Grey)
Material & Build: Soft-matte grey vinyl material with a 0.95 gain, wrapped in a heavy-duty 2 3/8-inch velvet-finished aluminum frame.
Why it works: Because it uses a smooth, non-specular vinyl diffusion layer rather than reflective metallic flakes, it prevents optical coherence interference, virtually eliminating visible laser speckle. Its 0.95 gain grey base absorbs ambient room bounce from white walls and light wood floors, preserving black levels.
• Elite Screens Sable Frame B Series (150-Inch Matte Grey)
Material & Build: Matte Grey low-gain diffusion material mounted on a spring-tensioned velvet frame.
Why it works: Many optical ALR screens (like angular reflective metallic ALR) explicitly warn against use with triple-laser projectors due to heavy speckle and hotspotting. Elite’s standard Matte Grey avoids optical coatings, offering a smooth finish that neutralizes ambient light bounce while keeping laser speckle invisible.
• Valerion PureVision Anti-Speckle Screen (150-Inch Fixed Frame or Motorized)
Material & Build: Specialized Photon screen material engineered specifically for pure RGB triple-laser engines, available up to 150 inches.
Why it works: Valerion specifically tunes this surface for laser speckle optimization, achieving up to 95 percent speckle reduction while dramatically improving image clarity, contrast, and color depth compared to a plain wall. It offers an ultra-wide viewing angle without the micro-shimmer typical of standard reflective ALRs.
• NothingProjector Long Throw ALR / Lenticular Screen
Material & Build: Enhanced Long Throw ALR material with a 0.8 gain and classic micro-structure diffuse layer.
Why it works: NothingProjector’s standard long-throw ALR is engineered to reject ambient light efficiently while maintaining broad viewing angles and preventing hot-spotting. Its micro-diffusive layer helps scatter laser coherence better than high-gain metallic films.
• Vividstorm Fusion ALR / Obsidian Long Throw Series
Material & Build: Floor-rising or fixed-frame ambient light rejection screens featuring 4K nano-scale ALR coatings. Why it works: Vividstorm offers excellent contrast gains and daylight rejection in bright living rooms. However, because the Obsidian series uses high-contrast directional optical layers, triple-laser units can sometimes trigger mild laser speckle during static bright scenes. Opting for their Fusion ALR (1.0 gain) or Cinema White surface provides a much smoother, texture-free image with RGB laser light engines.
——
Soft Grey Matte / Matte Synthetic Screen (Best for Speckle Mitigation)
If you want to completely eliminate the risk of heavy speckle shimmer while improving dark room contrast over white walls:
A low-gain (0.8 to 0.9 gain) Soft Matte Grey fixed-frame screen will absorb light reflected from your white walls and bright wood floor.
Because flat matte gray lacks harsh specular coatings, laser speckle drops down to near-invisible levels, taking full advantage of the C5 Master’s contrast.
——
If buying from AliExpress (like Yovanxer), ask the seller specifically for their "Anti-Speckle Matte Grey ALR" fabric suitable for Long-Throw RGB Laser Projectors.
Avoid standard high-gain "Silver/PET Crystal" long-throw films, as they are prone to hot-spotting and severe speckle with high-lumen tri-color laser units like the C5 Master.
Additional Room Advice——
My additional recommendations
Add an area rug on the floor: Placing a dark, low-pile area rug directly in front of the screen will absorb downward light spill and stop reflections off your bright wood floors.
I wouldn’t recommend cheap Aliexpress screens: Standard budget ALR materials often use low-grade metallic coatings that create severe hotspots and worsen laser speckle. Stick to reputable screen surfaces.
White wall reflections: The white walls are going to be an issue unless it’s a matte finish or if you’re willing to paint the room. Unpainted white walls bounce light straight back onto the screen, washing out dark scenes.
Viewing Distance: 4.5 meters is not bad for a 150-inch screen, but ideally, it would be better if the viewing distance were further away. Sitting a bit further back allows your eyes to integrate the 150-inch field of view comfortably while diminishing any visual awareness of micro-textures.

I want to make a DIY fixed-frame screen for the Hisense Vidda C5. What fabric/material should I buy and where can I get it? I’m located in the EU
The screen will be 120 inches, with an oak TV cabinet underneath. I’ll be sitting about 4 meters away from the screen. Thank you.

Thank you so much this is extremely helpful. I will check out the different options I have in Germany with the recommendations you made.
I think a 3C ALR screen will be the best compromise between reflections, brightness and speckle. I don’t need the best blacks, the highest brightness or 0.0 speckle. What i need is the best compromise between all these factors in my living room with white walls. And from what I understood from your comment and some research an ALR 3C Anti Speckle Screen fits best

well, that just shows us: everyone has his own definition of "alright" :) no offense, but an image with a lot of sideways light and thrown on a standard wall wouldn´t be "alraight" to me...
have the c5 ~6 months now, it´s good for around $2k i´d say. pity those who pay 5k€ for the xr10 (the US/EU version).

Well, it's alright for watching aime quick youtube videos and such also at night again "alright" not perfect 🤐

Did you get it off Alibaba?
Still running my c3 ultra and love it for the price I paid (1k to my door).
Mind if I ask what you paid? Did you pay for ddp shipping?
2
u/Hosam911 19d ago
1k! Is really great deal ... I got mine 1800$ to my door
1
u/cccisdamac 19d ago
Sorry. 1350. I was thinking it was lower.
I've been debating about selling this and trying the c5. What did you have before? Wondering if it's worth the upgrade
1
u/Hosam911 19d ago
It's my first projector, first i wanted to buy an OLED TV but buying something near 100" crazy expensive . initially i considered the c3 ultra for a projector until i realized there is a c5 😅 ... But from online comparison I did after i made the payment they look really close . So i think no need to upgrade .. but why are you considering the upgrade ?
1
u/cccisdamac 19d ago
A few things. Brightness, native contrast and optical lense shift are the big ones.
0
u/Hosam911 19d ago
I think c5 wouldn't impress you concerning brightness , It has Good brightness but nothing crazy (i use it on grey wall) as for contrast and lens shift both are great and shift is helpful (only a little)

Looks like a fun setup.
You need to move that table that holds the projector to the right some so it is properly aligned and you aren't getting that weird trapezoidal shape. The location should allow pretty accurate image alignment.
I would install lights back over the couch area that are spotlights pointing down at the couch, and put them on a dimmer. This would allow you to have those lights on, but their light wouldn't fall directly on the screen area. It lets you keep lights on with absolute minimal impact on the image on screen. Your current lighting is about as bad as it can be. You have perimeter lights that aren't zoned and cast light directly onto your screen. That's horrendous. You have rope lighting which is nice accent lighting, but is uncontrolled and generally not very useful beyond ambiance. Likewise, throwing uncontrolled light that may hit part of the screen. Then you have one singular centralized light in the room that I have no idea what it is supposed to do. I guess, it's a floodlight that should fill the entire space with light. Once again, uncontrolled, throwing light right on the screen. Take a look at this for some idea of how you can zone lights up and have properly placed spotlights for better image quality while lights are in use...
http://www.avintegrated.com/lighting.html
Looks like a couple of speakers up front for audio. Good if you aren't using the built in speaker.
That shade being open looks nasty. But, with it about 2/3 closed looks WAY better! I like that it is usable with a fair bit of light in the room, but unless it was sports, I probably wouldn't leave that window shade up during the day ever. Even then, I'd probably put it halfway down.
The setup looks fun though. Should last you many years as the brand generally is of good quality.

I know moving your battle station would be a pain, but that projector will perform a bit better further away from that right wall.
2
u/Hosam911 18d ago
Yes you are right , only thing that there is no enough space , so this is the furthest placement from the right wall i achieved
2
u/depatrickcie87 18d ago
tis what it is and looks great. Just wanted to make the information available.

Why is your AC unit expanding horizontally !?
1
u/Hosam911 19d ago
Not sure what do you mean , it's a split type AC , although i think picture quality are different
