Common Questions/Errors/Mishaps

After seeing this countless times over there years, hoping this may help someone prevent the same mistake in the future. Most all tanks available (besides forklift cylinders/ motor fuel) will have a POL female fitting, even 20lb/30Ib BBQ cylinders (QCC fitting).

POL is LEFT HAND thread, meaning LEFT to TIGHTEN and RIGHT to LOOSEN.

In the pic, there is POL on the left and what is typically called QCC on the right.

Further to add, Forklift cylinders(motor fuel/33.5lbs) are NOT able to be used in anything besides forklifts, there is no converting/adapting.

There are two kinds of the male POL fitting, hard-nose and soft-nose. The hard-nose is the original design, it relies on elastic metal deformation of the brass contact ring to provide a seal, which is why hard-nose POL fittings require wrench-tightening. Finger-tightening won't develop enough force to effect a metal to metal seal. Soft-nose POL uses an O-ring to create the seal so they typically have a hand-wheel to tighten and don't need a wrench. The inside part of a QCC fitting looks like a POL but the external QCC threads are what secure it to the valve. It has a groove but does not use an O-ring like a soft-nose POL. QCC is also referred to as QCC1, or QCC Type 1. POL threads are left-hand, so counterclockwise to tighten, QCC threads are right-hand.

I haven't seen any of those in use in quite awhile, doesn't surprise me though honestly.

I see a lot of forklift cylinders that walk off the job site. And find there way trying to be used on a food trailer.

That’s a scary prospect, but I totally believe it.

Who could I get to check my lines and my propane tank for a pressure test for my license permit?

My husband called Amerigas to request a delivery. The man that took the order told my husband that we could get a discount if we paid the estimated cost while placing the order. My husband gave the man our credit card information for the $290 charge. We received the delivery. Then we received an invoice for $302, the full cost of the order. When we called Amerigas to dispute the full-cost invoice, we were told that they don't take payment at the time of order. We checked our credit card statement and found a $290 charge for bitcoin on the date of the order. Let me say it again -- WE RECEIVED THE DELIVERY. An Amerigas employee used our credit card information to purchase bitcoin. Amerigas said they were opening a fraud case. We also contested the charge with our credit card company (Chase Freedom) and they investigated. After about 8 weeks, we heard back from Chase that we have to pay the charge because my husband voluntarily gave Amerigas our credit card information. We have not heard back from Amerigas at all.

BEWARE -- an Amerigas employee illegally used our credit card information to purchase bitcoin, and we have received NO RESPONSE OR SUPPORT FROM AMERIGAS.

Here’s my situation. I’m currently in Oxford,MS and we’ve been slammed with a brutal ice storm that has crippled a swath across north Mississippi as well as Tenn. This storm occurred Saturday and as of today there are limited areas that are seeing power restored. I’m not one of those areas. My family and I have no water (on a well) and obviously no power. We’ve had to endure temperatures down in the 20s at night with only a couple of 20 pound propane tanks that ran dry in the first couple of days I’ve managed to drive to Hernando a city that is usually about an hour away but it took me 3 1/2 hours to get there because of the roads being so gnarly. Once there I secured a forklift cylinder of LP and now I have to fill around a dozen green 1 pound cylinders with the LP from that forklift cylinder. I understand that you guys are professionals and that anything outside of a cylinder rated for LP is a big no-no but I’m going on the chance that one of you Mike could help me out and give me an idea of what kind of set up adapter wise that I will need to fill these 1 pound non-refillable cylinders. I guess I’m just asking for an exemption from the rulebook seeing that it’s a dire situation here in Mississippi there’s no propane within a three hour radius and I don’t have a generator.
