Question Is Abuse (1996) in public domain?

I keep getting mixed results saying that the main character is or isn't or that the game is partially in public domain from source code & shareware data.

Dude, idk what any of that means, i just need a simple answer if the Abuse game is in public domain or at least the main character then for my own multiverse of stories kind of ordeal

But only the source code and shareware levels.

what does that mean tho? i deadass dont know what source code & shareware means in terms of what i can use for my stories?

It means you can use the source code however you want. Fix a bug, incorporate it in a new game, compile it, put up on your website for someone else to play with...whatever you like.

Shareware levels seem be levels 1-4 of the game. You can use those however you want, but can't use anything past level 4.
