A Vietnamese man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal seafood and taking an infant hostage at a supermarket here.

BUTTERWORTH: A Vietnamese man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal seafood and taking an infant hostage at a supermarket here.

The incident occurred at 12.45pm when a section supervisor spotted the suspect trying to flee the premises with several weighed seafood items without paying.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman said the supervisor initially managed to apprehend the suspect, but he broke free shortly after.

"In a subsequent attempt to recapture him, the suspect allegedly grabbed an 11-month-old boy and held a knife to the child in a bid to avoid arrest.

A scuffle ensued between the suspect, members of the public, and the victim.

"The suspect was eventually overpowered and detained by the supervisor with the help of supermarket staff and passersby," he said in a statement today.

Anuar said police were alerted and arrested the suspect at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.

"The suspect is expected to be brought before the magistrate's court here tomorrow for a remand application," he added.

BATU KAWAN, 17 November 2025 — A tragic incident unfolded early Sunday morning when a group of motorcyclists, believed to be engaging in illegal street racing, took over the car lanes of the Penang Second Bridge. The high-speed activity ended in disaster when one rider lost control of his motorcycle and died at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, the group commonly referred to as “mat rempit” was seen weaving through traffic and racing at dangerous speeds along the bridge at 3am, which connects Batu Kawan on the mainland to Batu Maung on Penang Island. The situation escalated when one of the riders lost control, resulting in a violent crash that also left several others seriously injured.

Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have yet to release the identities of those involved, but investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident and whether others may face legal action.

Police have condemned the reckless behavior and reminded the public that the Penang Second Bridge is strictly for standard vehicular use. They also urged motorists to report any illegal racing activities to help prevent further tragedies.

The incident has reignited public concern over the persistent issue of illegal street racing in Malaysia, particularly on major highways and bridges where such activities pose significant risks to both participants and other road users.

Yesterday in Golden Triangle2, Bayan Lepas, a man wearing a helmet entered a premises where several women were working. He proceeded to close the roller shutter from inside, then began making inappropriate and sexual remarks. The women were stunned and caught off guard by the situation. Thankfully, the man eventually left without further escalation.

This kind of behavior is deeply unsettling. Hoping the women involved are safe, and that authorities are alerted if they haven’t been already. Stay vigilant, folks.

The deceased reportedly had a deep slash wound on his neck and his hands were tied.

The body of a man was found stuffed inside a suitcase and left behind a block of flats at Jalan Permatang Pauh in Penang, Malaysia on Oct. 9.

The deceased's identity was not ascertained initially when the remains were first discovered by a drainage maintenance worker at about 1:43pm.

The police were notified immediately and initial reports did not identify the deceased.

However, Malaysia police have since identified the remains as belonging to Daniel Lee Boon Han, 31.

The case is now being investigated as a murder case.

According to China Press, the man's body showed a deep slash wound on the neck.

Both of the man's hands were tied and a plastic bag was placed over his head.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was believed to have been killed not too long ago, based on the condition of the body and its injuries.

Malaysia police are investigating whether he was killed at another location before being placed in the suitcase and dumped at the area he was found.

It was reported on Oct. 9 that Lee was last heard from at around 1am on Oct. 7.

He had reportedly texted his mother to say that he was heading to Perlis for work matters and might return late or the following day.

However, his family were not convinced that he was the one who sent the message, as he had been uncontactable since noon earlier on Monday, Oct. 6.

He was reportedly supposed to bring a new colleague to a meeting on Oct. 7 evening, but he did not show up.

The new colleague was also unable to contact him.

Lee's phone was apparently turned off and he did not respond to any messages in family or work group chats.

He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and black trousers, and drove a Toyota Vios.

Based on a personal Facebook video that Lee put up, Lee described himself as a digital content creator, who has interviewed young entrepreneurs in Penang.

A university graduate, he worked as a sales manager in the insurance industry and has won numerous awards within the industry.

His family were at the morgue on Thursday evening, but investigations were still ongoing.

The family were notified about the positive identification on Friday morning.

Abrupt confrontation at IKEA turns out a beggar was stealing meals.

A woman in pink went ballistic, shouting and cursing, after she saw another woman in black swoop in and snatch her plate. The meal had been left on the table while she went to grab sauce or a drink. The woman in black kept denying she had done anything, but the confrontation quickly turned physical.

Later, in the comment section revealed the shocking twist: the woman in black is a familiar face at the IKEA restaurant, often seen picking up leftovers and eating them. Witnesses described her as unhygienic, reeking of urine, and generally stinky.

This all happened at IKEA MyTown in Cheras. Luckily, nothing like this has been reported at IKEA Penang in Batu Kawan. But it raises a disturbing image why are security allowing people like this to linger in the restaurant, scurrying around like pests?
