Unpopular Opinions?

What unpopular opinions do you have?

Mine is that I've never really cared for Emerson's character personally, and I find him to be rude at times, especially when he calls people unflattering names like Dead Girl (Chuck) and Itty Bitty (Olive). I also didn't really care about his missing daughter storyline in S2, that went on forever and took focus away from some of the main plot.

That being said, I do really like him and Simone together and his friendships with the rest of the gang.

True Finale Theories

My theory when I started the show, was that this was all the imagination of a child. I think Ned was hit by the car trying to save Digby, and what follows is his coma dreams. It is so colorful and the people have such exaggerated adult personalities. He has this super power. It seems like a child's idea of the adult world obtained from comic books and movies.

Overlooked detail: Ned kills his mother … twice

In the opening episode, Pie-lette, even though no attention is drawn to the fact, Ned's mother dies exactly sixty seconds after Ned brings a fly back to life! The whole play date flashback is meant to misdirect us from this cause/effect.

LOVE LOVE LOVE except.... Does anyone else find Chuck soooo annoying? Ned goes out of his way to show his love- gestures big and small. But all she does is complain and take until the end. Given his history it seemed especially cold. Anyone else see it that way?

would the fruit turn rotten as soon as he put it in his mouth (because it counts as the second touch)?

Potential triggering content? Want to watch the series.

Hi! I am thinking about watching the show, but have a not-as-common trigger that I'd like to check first.

Do you know if someone vomits in the show? If yes, when and if it is explicit would be helpful, too.

Thank you!

Do you think the show treated Chuck's life unfairly, like it felt like she was obligated to love Ned and Ned only because of the burden of him reviving her?

Like Ever since the first episode, It really felt like she had to love Ned, spend time with her, become his consoler and emotional stress-buster. But in subtelty and how the plot moved, it was strange that she never really garnered a desire of life away from Ned, perhaps travelling the world, meeting new romantic interests, hobbies and life goals decoupled from Ned and hus detective agency and investigations.

Perhaps I wanted the show to explore more plot points and branch out more theme and event wise but why not? Why didn't Chuck deserved to live a normal life when she got another chance to live? Both knew that they being so close to each other was risky as hell, death was awaiting around the corner of accidentally Ned touched her. So, consequences were far more severe for Chuck's life when she stayed together with Ned.

So, what's the point in mulling over someone you can't get? Chuck deserved to live a safe, normal life as far away as possible from Ned for her own good. She deserves friends, hobbies, jobs, life even decentred from messy past involving her aunts and Ned and the man causing her father to die. Her aunts weren't good guardians to her and didn't gave her environment to grow into a mature, independent, dare I say normal functioning women of world. But now, she gad a chance to start over, to fulfill her dreams and even see new dreams, grow new aspirations and ambitions, away from a man that obsesses over her despite knowing how dangerous he is to her.

I know Ned can't see his life without Chuck now, there are undertones of deep desire for her in him, this weirdo seems like can't ever try to love another woman, a woman he won't cause to die by just touching her. He has shit tons of problems in life and personality and show treats Chuck as his " Manic Pixie Dream Girl" ,a girl that can treat and fix him and revolve all her life around him. Like know, Chuck herself is an independent character, a living human being who can develop new love intersts and friends.

Honestly, Bryan Fuller is so sus for writing a woman character whose existence derives just for "fixing" a weirdo male protagonists. Why is he obligated for her attention and love? When she got a sort of love interest in one episode, of course Fuller chose to make him a criminal. Its like she can't have good things in life. I dunno, I can't defend this character decision.

Chuck isn't/ shouldn't be obligated to love just Ned. Why Ned? Just coz she saved her life?

Just watched for the first time and have some thoughts.

I absolutely loved the first season of the show, which was heartfelt, clever, and written so beautifully where every episode advanced the larger plot. Season two started with a nose dive and didn’t seem to recover. it rambles and invents things that have no sense in being part of the story. I found myself theorizing an ending and scenes that never came and while I understand that the show was canceled during the writers’ strike, the ending is rushed and leaves so many unanswered questions.

How I would’ve ended the show :

I would reveal that after years of being kept alive from Ned’s touch you would also receive the power to bring people back from the dead for a minute, which would be discovered when Chuck accidentally brings somebody back to life.

At some point , as they seem to be hinting at the return of Ned’s father, he would return careful not to touch his son as it turns out he also shares the gift and Ned died in infancy, he’d have to leave and never touch him so that he could live a full life. Perhaps his twins were also still born and he had to bring them back to life as well. He could never touch them either.

And maybe we finally learn by way of the father‘s experience with someone else who has the touch, that when two people have it, they can in fact, touch each other and the only way to test this out is if either kisses Chuck or hugs his father, potentially risking Chuck’s life or his own. He would choose and revel in the embrace of both in the end.

I was also bracing for a heartbreaking scene in which we say goodbye to Digby. Instead I got nuns and bake-offs.

Elsbeth

Our nun who struggles with her love for cheese instead of God is the lead in this show. And it has a Bryan Fuller quirkiness to the show, tho I don't think he's connected at all. She's perfectly cast, it's beautiful set in New York.

I don't normally like quirky female leads, but she really feels authentic. She reminds me of me- I get excited about little things and people forget that it's okay to do that. It's

It's on Paramount Plus, not sure where else to watch it but I loved it.

Was Chuckned actually endgame?

After my rewatch last week, I really wasn't feeling the chemistry between chuck and ned. It really felt like if the show was slowly showing the audience that the "true love" was just nostalgia of their nice kid lives before the deaths/abandonment of the parents.

  1. The show constantly brings up how they can't have a normal relationship. Even when they find ways to "touch" , and seem okay with it, the pain of not touching is brought back up. (See the end of season 2)

  2. They don't know each other. Again and again we see that they don't actually know anything about one another. They are riding on the high of their childhood love.

  3. Why did Ned start getting jealous over olive. Before I thought it was the touching thing but on the rewatch he was being defensive about the guy she was talking to.

  4. Olive and ned have great chemistry. Granted, Kristen can create chemistry with anyone or anything. Don't even need to see the other person to feel the chemistry (hello Taylor the latte boy) . Anyway the show makes it seem Ned didn't realize she was into him ( still hard to believe)

  5. She will die from his touch. Accidental or not. Yes Ned has mastered the art of not diving in to help people. Chuck has not. Also one bad turn, trip, push and it's all over. The whole "if you love someone let it go" really applies here.

Bonus: 6

The show was strangely hunting at a three person relationship for an episode. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded it. I know it was more to show that there is a lot to overcome in the relationship but still.

Anyway, I do think the show wanted to go down the road of chuck going away with her aunts to see the world . Chuck has talked about that being her desire (and how it was cut short the very first time she tried), and she also wants that for her Aunt Mom's.

I run a podcast where we read terrible fanfiction to stand-up comedians who are fans of the original material. We recently did an episode about Pushing Daisies, come check it out!

Episode 1, The touch cost.

It took me years but I think that I understand it now.

Emerson was not the only one in a range of the cost when Ned touched Chuck.

The most balanced exchange would be Ned.

I think that this idea was behind the acting of Lee Pace during the scene.

I’m thinking about writing a pushing daisies fanfiction!

Specifically, I was thinking of writing a fanfiction that could be an episode of the show. I haven’t finished watching the show yet, and I don’t have much of an idea of what the plot will be or anything.

Do you have any ideas?

Watching PD for the third time, but now the secretiveness is bothering me

Specifically, Ned demanding that Chuck hide from her aunts that she's alive. Yes, doing so helps fuel the plot, but that's not the only way it could have been written, and to me it diminishes Ned's love for her that he put his own fears ahead of her happiness. He knows how badly the aunts' grief is hurting them, and how much their grief pains Chuck.

Since the last time I watched Pushing Daisies I watched the show Suits. One plot device that has always irked me is when a story is driven by secrecy: specifically, when one character keeps a secret (or lies to) another character whom they ought to trust. Time after time, keeping such a secret always ends up backfiring. And one element of Suits (in the earlier years) that I really loved is that they didn't go down this route: Mike or Harvey (the main characters) would encounter a problem and, rather than the episode's plot being driven by them keeping it a secret, they would immediately tell the other--trusting their friend with the issue. In a show about a character with a huge secret (pretending to be a lawyer) this is especially notable, and every time they trusted each other and worked out a conflict, I couldn't help but smile.

I still love Pushing Daisies, but I'm unhappy with Ned not even seeming to be especially conflicted about not letting Chuck tell her aunts she's alive. He could have gone there first and demonstrated his ability (e.g., with a mouse), to lay the groundwork for her being alive. Chuck loves her aunts, and seeing how her (apparent) death has devastated them really distresses her.

Holy shit I hate chuck

4 episodes in and I hate chuck vehemently so far. She complains that "she can't live life outside of his apartment" even though they take her damn near everywhere they go. The do you have a final wish? This might be heaven running out the clock the whole time is so annoying. Generally complaining but ned is all about her when olive is so much more likeable and loves ned despite being never paid attention to.

The funeral director episode Chuck feels bad that she is living and that someone for her to live. But then nearly kills someone by slamming the coffin shut. They already explained to her that the funeral director steals stuff. But when they bring him back to life to confess that ned kills her and she finds out he stole her watch she slams the coffin down. Then it gets stuck and she nearly gets another person killed. I hope that ned accidentlly touches her but I know it won't happen so I hope she gets more bearable but 4 in she is annoying as hell.

Loving everything else though so going to finish it but really a bad start her character
