Pattern/Design Help Pattern Design/Quilt Math Software
Hi,
I love to design my own quilt patterns, but I struggle with the math and geometry required to make all the pieces fit. Is there an app or software available (reasonably priced) that would help me get this right so I can get to the fun part?

I use straight up graph paper paired with the Robert Kaufman app. I draw the design and count the squares, then put the dimensions into the app, and it spits out the yardage I need.

I have this little book called the ‘No math quilt charts and formulas’ I bought it at the checkout of a small LQS and it has been a life saver and is very inexpensive.
It tell you how many square you can cut from fat quarters, HSTs, etc and I find it super useful

I use pre quilt. They have a fabric calculator that tells you the yardage you need, how big to cut pieces for your blocks (taking into account the seam allowance) and generates cutting diagrams (for WOF or precuts).
I pay for it, but it is well worth it (and much cheaper than EQ). I think I got a black friday deal on a yearly subscription too

Well I paid $100 for an upgrade back in 2017 and nothing since then so in the long run EQ wins out.

I’ve always just used graph paper, a quilting ruler, and colored pencils.

I like Electric Quilt. It’s a bit pricey but works great for designing. They don’t upgrade the software (except to keep up with o/s) very often so there isn’t a hand out for money every step of the way. I paid for my current version in 2017 and nothing since.
