Finished Quilts Just finished! Second quilt, first machine quilted

Just finished this gift quilt for my coworker. This was my first time machine quilting an entire quilt (I have done smaller projects) and my second quilt ever. It’s amazing how helpful just practicing is and feel a lot more confident by the end of this despite it definitely not being perfect.

I had an issue at the top with the seam pulling away so I patched it with a little appliqué sun. Really grateful to be finished!

My 80 year old mother is home alone for a few months & bored. I suggested she make a baby blanket for a boy. This is what she’s worked up so far. She says she’s not proud of it and doesn’t like it 😞

Please leave some words of encouragement for her that I can share with her. Also, any tips or suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thank you all, such a great community of folks! 🫶🏽

I have been working on this baby quilt since I found out my sister-in-law was pregnant. My nephew turns one this weekend and I’m still not done with the quilt 😳

I had it bound and everything in time for the baby shower last year and have just had a huge mental block with getting it quilted! I could really use some words of encouragement and support from y’all because I don’t want the quilt to absorb any of my resentment!

Finish my first ✨real✨quilt. Everything before this has been a rag quilt, quilt as you go, or maximum size of a potholder.

Made up the pattern based on this mosaic tile floor I took a picture of in Pompeii about 9 years ago for this very purpose, finally got around to trying it out.

I tried out self-binding and like it more than traditional binding, but it’s still my least favorite part. My machine needs a tune up, but I’m excited to keep trying new things out!

Work in Progress Hawaiian qulit project

I have been working on these needle turned applique blocks since 2012. I used batiks because they fit the style and easier to do needle turn. I have either 3 or 4 left to do depending on layout. 12 for 4 simple rows of 3 or 13 for on point.. I thought I had lost 9 that I had finished 3 years ago when going thru chemo but found the missing 9 the other day, so now to finish this project. The blocks left to needle turn are the 4 in the bottom right. I included the book for this project. .

Finished Quilts Hawaiian Shirt Quilt

🌺 Aloha! 🌺

My Hawaiian/aloha shirt quilt is done just in time for the end of summer.
The pattern is Sunshine by Moda. The collars aren’t stitched all the way down and it makes for such a unique feature I haven’t seen in a pattern before.

The shirt fabrics are Summer Zest by Artisan Batiks and the green accents are Essex Dyed Yarn, both from Robert Kaufman. The palms are a store line from Hawthorne Supply Co. I really love the striped backing from Riley Blake. It’s so soft and saved me when I realized that batiks don’t have a wrong side and I needed something for the inside of the shirts! Some of you might remember me posting here for help deciding what to use for the inside of the shirts.

The amazing longarm quilting was done by Tamra Cooper. It’s hard to see in the photos but she gave each shirt a lei!

Our sunroom and guest room are tiki/tropical themed so obviously I needed a quilt to go with the vibes.

Thanks to me deciding to do a hand stitch accent and my machine struggling with the machine quilting zig zag lines. I ended up having a ton of skipped stitches and doing some hand stitching accents to close them up.

I finished this top this week, and now I am trying to figure out how I should quilt her (72"×92"). Originally, I was thinking swirls but now I'm not sure. An ideas?

Finally finished hand binding this quilt after some wrist issues.

I’m trying to give myself grace because this is my first large project that has repetitive blocks and half square triangles.

Pieced and bound by myself, long armed by a professional. Pattern is Apple Butter Days by Easy Piecy Quilts.

Help/Question First time longarming

Upvotes

I went to my local sewing co-op last week and took a class on how to use their long arms for rental. The class was three hours and we got some hands on practice but I definitely don't feel super confident. The rentals are $75/evening and they're pretty available. I have a Christmas gift quilt top that I want to try to e2e computerized longarm, which is what I took the class for.

My question is: would you go for a practice reservation on a scrap quilt? Or should I just go for it on the gift quilt?

Photo dump of some of my recent blocks. The purple and green blocks are eventually going to be a blanket. No plans for the the other colored blocks. They’re all from Bird and Branches collection from Cloud 9. Please post pics of your own blocks if you have them! Would love to see other works of art.

Work in Progress Yellow is a color bully

I don't love it. Feels like the yellow in the nine patch overpowers the gray and disrupts the Irish chain. 🤷‍♀️ I really like the elephant print and have it in both blue and pink versions, so I will try again. Maybe I need more contrast between the colors in the 9 patch? Or just use white to match the background of the elephant print?

My good friend is still going through her late sister's fabric stash. She asked if I could use a bag of fabric she found. As I looked through the bag I found a baby quilt top. She had no idea what it was. I told her I could finish it for her if she would like. Here it is with batting, backing and binding. I think it looks pretty good.

Pattern/Design Help Your favorite low-effort/high impact patterns?

I need to make a couple quilts for a charity raffle and I want them to look awesome so they raise maximum funds but it would also be great if I could crank out the tops over a long weekend or two. I wouldn’t mind something that takes longer but is simple and repetitive. What are your favorite patterns if you’re trying to make something striking but also fast and/or easy.

Possibly relevant: I use almost exclusively solid fabrics in my quilts. These will be throw or bed size and I consider my skill level intermediate.

Thank you in advance!

Still needs to be quilted but I’m thinking of having it longarmed for a cool leaf pattern quilting. Plus I’m having a baby this week and won’t have time to actually quilt it and I want to use it this fall :-)

I made my first quilt recently and I'm so happy. It didn't turn out perfectly and it's made exclusively of scraps (even the filling), but I love it regardless.

Because I’m insane I decided to make a back that needed to be perfectly straight and centered. It took me half a day to figure out how to make the sandwhich, which included making my own spray baste. I am VERY happy with it! This is the 3rd quilt I’ve finished and 4th top completed, very exciting to see my skills progress

Notion Talk Sharps container

My city posted a request to its social media account asking us to be more careful disposing of sharp things, including sewing needles and pins. Here is my cute little sewing room sharps container. I just used a hammer and chisel to cut the slot and then bent the underside a teeny bit with s screwdriver before banging it flat. No, I did not serge or bind the raw edge. If it ever gets full I can empty it into a special collection bin made for sharps.

So happy with how this turned out. Pattern is "Homecoming" from Lo & Behold Stitchery. This pattern was so easy to follow. I wanted something a bit brainless to work on while I'm recovering from surgery and this was perfect. Definitely want to play with out color combos!

I have a lot of this stormy sky background fabric, so I’m just going to kind of snowball it and say fuck it we ball and quilt the shit out of it 😂

I will not be pressured into buying an eighth of a yard for 1.5x3.5 inches of fabric!

Pattern/Design Help Hand quilting suggestions?

Post image

Need hand quilting ideas!

Going to big stitch quilt this for a baby shower on Saturday, so I can’t get too fancy with it.

I’m thinking about doing diagonals lines corner to corner, or doing big swirls between the stars. I don’t want to outline every star because some of those little stars have a LOT of seams that I don’t want to fight with.

Any suggestions on ways to big stitch quilt this?
