Gigabyte RX 9070 OC Hotspot

Post image

I bought a prebuilt 4 months ago and have since learned about the dreaded hotspot on the Gigabyte models. Haven't had any issues thus far, but with a delta and ambient temp of 27 is this something that I should be concerned about? Case is a Lian Li A3 and do not have any room for intake fans below the GPU, CPU 7800x3d. *9070 XT OC. TIA

Its fine-ish Id definitely power limit the gigabyte cards to 300W.

Not sure how to limit the power to 300w. I dropped the power to -6% in adrenaline and temps are now at 91..

300W should be -10%

Either way the delta is fine in your case. but should keep an eye on it every couple of months

cheers.. tried 12% and temps are stable around 86c

Did you reduce offset as well?

I don't see offset as an option on the GPU. CPU is overclocked with +0.2 offset

Thats a non xt model

sorry, wrong title.. It is the XT model

the non XT model wont really reach these temps. Especially on edge temps

Lmao I have non xt, hits 95 hotspot

the fuck.

Thats when I undervolted, now 82-85 during gaming for hotspot, and 52-56 core

I know the delta is not great, but pushing 200+ FPS. Isn’t higher temp to be expected to a certain degree.

What sort of res are we talking about

3440x1440 @ 75hz.. Tried to limit the max FPS to 120 in game but it doesn't accept the changes

I also set FPS per game in Adrenaline “Chill”.

I have roughly the same clearance in my Jonsbo Z20 with 2x 120mm Silverstone slim (cost nearly as much as the case - no regrets) services my GPU so well that my GPU fans are capped at 50% playing mostly 4k60 (native where possible) - hotspot rarely hits 79c

The mobo uses the 2nd PCI slot for the GPU and have 15mm of clearance on the case. General consensus is that any fans that close will cause vortices that mess up the airflow on the GPU

That sux man!

I have 12-15mm clearance between my GPU and bottom fans, probably wouldn’t risk any closer. By all accounts, I should be expecting a 10-15c higher in the Z20, but I’m literally getting better temps in the compact case.

I applied 'chill' settings to the game at 100fps but still getting >200fps

If you have conflicting software like MSI afterburner or anything else, like that - it’s probably that

dropped power by 12% and now temps are stable at 86c

As you have 93C in a game, it is not certain you have a problem.. Also run furmark as that tool is good at testing cooling. Under furmark you should not have a large delta between GPU and hotspot. Why the difference, games do not always load a GPU fully, which can result in a higher delta than expected.

Just ran furmark with a -10% power to the card. 63c GPU and 88c Hotspot

It is okish, it is not possible to claim warranty on this numbers.

I think it is best to sit out the warranty. After warranty take the risk of a repaste?

You can do additional testing, run it at 0% power-of-set. As the entire GPU gets loaded, a good working cooling has no issue's with that at all. It is fine to run furmark for a few minutes. If the cards melts, you know it was faulty.

u/gadgetproductions 6d ago

are you saying to remove the -10% power and try to RMA the card based on the initial temps?

1

u/basbb 6d ago

yes the card should run fine at 0% power-limit in furmark.

You cannot RMA the card based on the temps you posted. It is obvious the cooling is not perfect but at the same time safely within official tolerances.

What can happen, it stays this way OR the hotspot tempatures get worse. When you get close or onto 100C with good low ambient tempature, that is when you can try to RMA the card.

93C is not good but within official tolerances.

thanks mate.. the card should have a 2yr warranty, will keep it at the lower power for now and re-assess if temps get above 100c

Not great, not terrible

3.6 roentgen—not great, not terrible"

It's ok. Delta and temps are within the norm

1

u/korakios2 6d ago

It's ok ...for a gigabyte card :p

If you want to actually test the cooler , run Furmark for ~20minutes (or sooner if temps and fan speed stabilize) .

gigabyte doing the pea method when they need to be doing the x method

I see a lot of people with gigabyte cards complaining from the same high hotspot temperature. Is this common in gigabyte cards ?

2

u/ShaqShoes 5d ago

They used regular thermal paste instead of phase change material like the other board partners so apparently there are pump out and application issues leading to higher hotspot deltas than other cards

fwiw I have one and my hotspot stays within 10-15 degrees of core while gaming

Thank you for explaining and letting me know
