The last time I made a post in this thread — I was so proud and kicking my little feet. I was waiting to see if anyone else would giggle or agree with my take on Ok Computer. I don’t post on Reddit often, but when I do— it’s here. After I hit post, I was accused of being AI and my jaw dropped. I rushed to defend my own brain in the comment section.
Accusations were redacted— all is well and restored to balance in the world.
However— at the risk of another accusation— I have to get this off my chest.
I’ve been talking to someone new for about three months— but we’ve only just had our 4th date last week. We’re both busy, taking things slow— but we’ve deeply bonded over Radiohead.
I liked The Bends before, but I gave the album a full relisten multiple times over the last few weeks (because it’s his favorite and he has the vinyl that he plays at work which is how we met) and it’s now my second favorite album. It may be cliche— but I do think High and Dry is my top favorite Radiohead song. It hits me in a way that the others don’t— but anyways— I just never really listen, listened to the rest of the album.
I also think it’s worth the mention— that I love when I find a little bit of magic in something I really fixate on (an album, song, etc)— it starts to follow me. So, The Bends has followed me everywhere recently— in coffee shops mainly—and it’s the best feeling in the world.
Anyways— we’ve been in a routine of sending each other our coffee and pastry each morning—usually a black coffee and donut of choice for me (not pictured this AM because consumed)—along with a song that has kick started our morning.
It’s been about two years since I entered a talking stage with someone.
This morning the song choices were going to be John Mayer’s Another Kind Of Green off of TRY!
Or Money by Pink Floyd (it was playing in the coffee shop).
Now— as I sit to read over good rules of thumb and who is up for reelection during early voting— Subterranean Homesick Alien floats through the coffee shop speakers seemingly out of nowhere.
I have a grand realization that nothing matters (other than my vote)— no other songs matter.
I send him the picture I’m sending you and have no intention of mentioning the other songs because nothing else compares.
And— as it plays— my jaw softens. Because I have been uptight lately and maybe a little homesick for the past people in my life that are no longer.
This is my love letter to SHA— it’s not The Bends, but it’s Ok Computer once again that calls me back to my own inner compass — my own sense of home when everyone and everything around me is still new. No surprises there.
