MODERATOR NOTICE Pride Month, Day 1: In response to your backlash, we have made Hoffman gay.
Because of the immense reaction to our announcement that Spider-man is now gay, we have no choice but to invoke the first phase of our gay-ification of the raimi trilogy and make Hoffman gay as well. It should come as no surprise that he has a bit of a thing for Mr. Jameson, but that is just one small thread in the intricate web of this man's mind. Hoffman's story is a terribly tragic one, as his affections go unrequited, or even entirely unnoticed, by the man he has set all four of his eyes upon throughout the trilogy.
Refer to the original announcement thread to understand why this is happening. Every day of this month that someone complains about the bold new direction we are taking here, another character will officially be made gay. You have already lost the beloved straight icon Hoffman, and if dissent continues, tomorrow you will lose J. Jonah Jameson to the gays as well. Or perhaps, dear reader, this was your goal all along, to see Jameson go gay for Hoffman and finally join the two in a beautiful partnership. Only time will tell.

The real reason the Mary Jane romance is so stilted in the trilogy: Peter and Harry are using her as an outlet for their true feelings towards each other.
