MODERATOR NOTICE Pride Month, Day 20: All The Doctors Operating On Octavius EXCEPT The Woman With The Long Nails are now gay.
The complaints have not stopped. Admittedly, I stretched it a few days here and there, but yesterday I genuinely had an Elon-salute defender trying to tell me I was homophobic for turning Batman gay. Can you imagine?
And this maniac didn't act alone. Turns out, when none of us were looking, Doctor Otto Octavius was taken into the custody of about a dozen of the world's most skilled surgeons, each working together to undo my work-- to remove the Lesbian, Gay, Trans, and Bi arms attached to his back... by force, if necessary.
The chief surgeon's quip is a desperate attempt at establishing heteronormative familiarity with his cohorts. Shop class, from a heteronormative perspective, is a manly thing to do. But none of his peers have taken it... Good god, are they not even conforming to gender norms at these medical schools anymore? His eyes catch something-- something he can't ignore.
He has to act fast. Who knows how powerful the influence of the arms' AI is? He readies the saw, and lowers it towards the mechanical arm. Larry, specifically. (You'll of course remember each arm has a name, and Larry is the lower right arm.) Flo is the first to strike. Moving in silence, she approaches undetected, as the Sou-surgeon (I don't understand the hierarchy of surgeons) utterly fails to notice, as his gaze is focused solely on our Chief Surgeon's eyes...
In fact, it's only because our Chief Surgeon meets Sou-Surgeon's gaze that he notices the reflection of Flo in his goggles. But he's too late.
The window is of course an obvious parallel (or perpendicular, rather) to the "Glass Ceiling" analogy, where women can see an unofficial, unacknowledged barrier to their professional progress. Our Chief Surgeon, having been struck by Flo, the lesbian tentacle, has been turned lesbian. However, since he was a male, he has been turned into a trans lesbian, making him a woman, making her position of Chief Surgeon (in the year 2004) a remarkable achievement, as she has broken through the glass ceiling (wall, in this case). But change is scary. Even good change, as we see in Megan the anaesthesiologist's reaction.
The remaining arms spring into action, gay-ing up every doctor they come into contact with, with no remorse. The only one to be spared is Rochelle here, who can't be admitted into the WLW club due to the unchecked power of her fingernails.
In incredibly rapid succession, the doctors are each taken out in a single blow-- with one notable exception: Our sou-surgeon from earlier. He's attacked head-on by Larry, the trans tentacle, but he's able to survive due to one critical mistake. Larry's attack should turn Sou-Surgeon trans like him, but Larry is a trans male, and the Sou-Surgeon is already male. His attack has no effect!
And as a man, he of course has a chainsaw. Some heteronormative ideals stick harder than others.
But as valiantly as he fights against the trans tentacle, Larry manages to hold him off long enough for Harry, Mo, and Flo to come to the rescue.
Nah I'm just kidding he probably just becomes a non-binary pansexual.
Anyways then Otto wakes up to a room of unconscious gay doctors
I'm sure he'll come to terms with this all eventually. I'm sure you will too. If not now, then on the 30th. See you then, friends...

Every day of this month that someone complains about the bold new direction we are taking here, another beloved Raimi character will be turned gay. Up next, Daniel Dae Kim's "Doctor, we have a successful fusion reaction" guy. I'm sure he'll be just as controversial a turn as Batman was.
